He swung his sword at the shadow hovering in the sky. It dodged quickly, even though it was holding a body. "Is that your best? Pathetic. Not even worth my time." The shadow sent a cloak of darkness at Saya, blocking his vision and hearing. "Tch. Damn." The young warrior held his hand to the sky; an explosion of light from his palm dispelled the dark. Just in time to see the shadow coming towards him to attack. He managed to raise his sword in time to block the advance. They stood, neither daring to move for the fact that the other would take advantage of that moment to attack their opponent. "b*****d! Give her back!" He yelled into where the shadow's face seemed to be located. "Heh. So ignorant. Do you know who you are?" It pushed its shadow of a blade against Saya, forcing him to block and allowing the shadow to move back. "Probably not." It sighed. "Ah well, all things in good time. I shall tell you when the time is right. You have a lot of power for such a young age, I'll give you that. However," the dark figure continued, "you are still not powerful enough to defeat me, and that won't give me any entertainment at all. So, if you want to get back this person for whom you care so much for..." It let out an evil grin. "You're gonna have to find her." It disappeared. Saya looked where the figure had just been in disbelief. He could have been left with at least one thing of his peaceful life. Instead, everything, his home, his friends, had been taken in one night. He fell to his knees in despair. "b*****d!!"
Saya awoke, Mina's head on his shoulder. His dream... it was of that night. That night when he had lost the person he cared the most for. The one who was sleeping next to him. At least him finding her hadn't been a dream. She lifted her head and looked at him. "Is something wrong?" She asked, rubbing her eyes. "No, it's nothing. I just had a dream. Go back to sleep." Obediently, she rested her head again. They were on a train, leading out of the desert city they had just been in. They were approaching the mountains. True, the current era was without advanced technology. However, they had managed to rebuild some of the mass transportation systems. The trains were an example. Many boats had been rebuilt. Customized buses were built from parts. Others, there were not much. Not only that, but because the trains were the only modes of mass transportation across the country, most towns were built along the tracks to make it easy for deliveries. The trains had also been altered so that they carried more passengers, for many people were in need of a ride every day. The amount of technology was limited; this was the 41st century, about 2000 years after the Fall of Mankind...
The train approached the zenith of the mountain and came to a screeching halt. Outside, the wind howled as a blizzard started. Everyone inside began to worry. "A blizzard?" "In the middle of summer? This can't be right. Not even up here." Mina soon became worried with the rest of the people in the train. "Saya, what's happening? If there should be no blizzard, why is there a blizzard?" Saya's answer did not reduce her worry; rather, it increased it. "Someone's planning to sabotage the train. Someone with weather control." "What? Why?" "They are an outcast of society, and hate the world for it. This outcast wants to cause pain for these people simply for that reason." "How do you know that?" "They have a tattoo that brands them as an outcast." Seeing her quizzical look, he continued. "He's sitting in the back. The one sitting calmly." And there he was. A blood-red coat was thrown around him, sweeping down to the floor. His messy, sleek black hair hung over his face, hiding his facial features. On his neck was tattoo that seemed burned on; it was the Chinese character for evil.
