So today was Super Bowl XLI. A sad day for those who like to wake up and watch football games around one o'clock. Life seems a little duller now because that's what I looked forward to the most on Sunday. A day that could be spent in front of the t.v. with family or friends and watch some good old fashioned family sports. Well, for those who aren't sports fans or just couldn't watch the game for any reason, I'll do a recap. The Indianapolis Colts played the Chicago Bears. As most people suspected, (unless they were a Chicago fan), the Colts won the game. It wasn't as big of a blowout as I thought it would be, but Rex Grossman didn't let me down. He hasn't played great for them this entire year, at times looking really streaky, and it didn't let down during the Super Bowl. Granted, his defense didn't play much better. That was the main reason I wanted the Colts to win was because I can't stand to see a team win games and suddenly they become as good as the older dynasties that led up to this generation of players. Pittsburg for example, they won last year and people started shouting the Blitzburg theme again. Sure, Pittsburg blitzed really well, but what team with a decent defense doesn't? They showed their true colors this year by not even making the playoffs. The Bears, people started comparing them to the old '85 Bears. The defense isn't anywhere close to what it was then. They've proved that in the last two years during the playoffs. Last year against Carolina, they got dominated throughout the entire game, at times looking like they had never played defense before. That's pretty much how it looked this year against the Colts.
The Colts started slow, letting a kick-off be returned for a touchdown, and then throwing an interception. After that, the Colts steam-rolled the Bears. Sure, there were alot of turnovers, but it wasn't because of good defense. The rain caused all of the fumbles in the first half. The interceptions, yeah, they were poorly thrown balls, or really well defended. But the Colts won the game with the final score being 28-17. So, I look forward to next year when the race for the playoffs are new and every team has a chance to do something. Hopefully, the Panthers will do better than they did this year. I can only hope though.
