~ Forest of Angels Chapter 7: Uneasiness and the Unforgotten Section 19
(Reika gave a small moan. “That’s an Elf.” She said to herself. “Wow, I’ve finally met one. I’ve read so much about them…” Though no one was listening, she seemed to be talking for her own insight.) She smiled at them. “Are you alright?” The graceful being asked them, stepping slightly out from the shelter of the trees. Tsano noticed she was shivering, too. “It is cold, is it not?” Trying to start a conversation with them, the Elf stepped further out into the grass, making barely a sound. Tao Chi shrugged sarcastically. “No, I think it’s a little warm—Of course it’s cold!” She barked. “I’m freezing my toes off in this dreadful weather!” The Elf came to sit beside them, setting her lamp in the center of the circle and opening a latch to let the fire within burn forth, licking the metal of the container, providing warmth. It seemed to be magic fire, but of a special brand, for it burned a deep blue. “…My fire does not burn out, you see.” The Elf told them after a moment after realizing they were all staring, enraptured, at it. “Yours, I noticed, could not withstand the freeze, but the flame within this lamp is Everlasting.” Reika moaned again. “Everlasting Fire…” She said dreamily. “I’ve read about that. Where…where did you get it?” “In one of the caves near the Troll valley, the only place where Everlasting fire is forged. However, recently, due to a slight problem, we can not gain entrance to it…” Then the Elf turned to Ileno. “You are the Angel, are you not?” She asked politely as the small Angel propped her feet up beside the lamp, warming her toes. “Actually,” Tsano interrupted, “I am.” He responded to her puzzled look as he undid his black-haired disguise. Comprehension dawned on her face, and then she smiled. “I see; you used magic. Very impressive magic at that, you are indeed skilled.” She nodded sensibly, continuing as Tsano changed back. “If that is true, who is this child?” “My younger sister. I found her in the Forest of Angels about a month ago, which shocked me, because even I thought she hadn’t survived.” Ileno looked down, fumbling with her fingers, and went ominously quiet. “I understand. You see, we do not have a connection to the outside—to Eluryh, or any of the other countries—so we do not get the news.” The Elf began. “However, it has been said that the Forest of Angels was burned down summers ago, and that one remained, and that that Angel was wanted. “Many of my people have been searching all over Labrynuu to provide help for the Angel, in case the Angel might have fled to our forest. The King and Queen of the Angels, you see, were very good friends with our Elder, and the Elder knew that the Angels were a good people, and that the Angels could not have done anything to… to harm the Humans, or to cause such a thing to happen.” “But it’s alright now.” Tsano told the Elf. “My sister and I have been cleared of all charges. The Elf looked puzzled. “But, if that is true, why are you in Labrynuu?”
