By the way, we've gone about 93 pages into the story with this update. ;3 However, I have 211 in total. ~ Forest of Angels Chapter 7: Uneasiness and the Unforgotten Section 21
Tsano did not know what to expect of what Elf civilization looked like, but he most certainly did not expect what he first saw upon entering. Stretching higher than the eye could see was the inside of the tree, black, gray, and white, while the same white, beautiful foliage cropped up everywhere, on the walls, in the ground, in the ceiling. A stream of water ran from above on the story over their heads, falling with a soft patter to the black, gray, and white earth of the base of the tree, running in a small river that was very shallow all the way to the edge of the interior of the tree, and seeming to go through the wall as it continued its path along the roots. The sound of running water filled his mind and blocked out most of what he was hearing. There seemed to be more dark archways, just like the one there had been at the entrance, leading to different parts of the tree. Of course, thought Tsano, this tree was bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside, which was significant, considering that the tree was indeed very large from the exterior. An enormous amount of Elves were crossing about, talking to each other, carrying baskets, staffs, bows and arrows, swords, and goods. They were entering the archways, reappearing instantly on the stories above their head, or perhaps not reappearing at all, like magic. Small Elf girls sat near the roots, playing with dolls, and Elven boys were fighting with swords like daggers not to far away. However, the moment the Elves noticed that the entrance had been opened and closed, an unsettling silence fell over them as they stared at Aeset, Tsano, Tao Chi, and the rest. Slowly, every single one of their eyes traveled to Tsano, to Ileno, to Aeset, to Tao Chi, to Reika and Ryomi, and back again. “Friends,” Aeset began, slightly nervously in the stillness, “I am pleased to inform you that I have found the Angel. I need to go to our Elder now, but I will be delighted to inform you on a later date the details of this—“ However, the Elves obviously did not want to wait for details. They all, even the children, began cramming and pushing toward Tsano and Ileno. Tsano picked Ileno up just in time to keep her out of the crowd. “Two Angels?” Whispered someone from the throng. “Why?” “How?” “What is his name?” “How old are they?” “Umm, friends—” Aeset said feverishly over them. “We need to speak to our Elder, please let us through…“ “What really happened to the Forest of Angels?” A middle-aged woman with short, chocolate brown hair asked, stepping forward and staring up into Tsano’s face. “Please…tell us.” Tsano felt an uncomfortable flush creep up his neck as everyone’s attention turned, even more so, on him. “Uh…” Tsano began, clearing his throat and staring around at every face that was turned to him. “It was…uh…burned down, years ago.” He muttered apologetically. “My sister and I are the only survivors.” A few people among the mass burst into tears. The woman looked grieved as she continued to stare up at him. “Who would do such a thing?” She asked in a mortified tone. “Not to the Angels. What did the Angels do to deserve that?” “Well, I’m not sure, but it definitely wasn’t an accident. A mob burned it down on a summer’s night years ago.” Tsano said. “That’s why I’m here, though, to find the answers behind all of this.” There was another slight silence in which Aeset took the time to clear her throat and interrupt. “I apologize, but you will have to know later.” Said Aeset in an impatient tone Tsano had never heard her use before. “I must go to our Elder now.” A clearing was made in the massive throng to let their group pass. Tsano felt the stares on him and Ileno and was made uncomfortable because of them. He wondered how many more times he would have to go through things like this before his story was heard.
