Bait Does Matter
As the title says, bait does seem to matter, just committed a series of tests with it to find out if there was a difference or just a scam. I did it with 2 buckets of each bait, at Bass'ken lake. With the results, I will post below and you can be the judge.

As you can see, with Grade A bait, you get less junk and bigger chance for better fish and lower you go worse it is. Just to let you all know I was gonna do this with all 3 rods upgraded, but I decided to just use the performance rod+ since the test results seemed to have turned out pretty good for it. Also, on a side note, the reason I put misses is because I believe you should know if I missed or not because it could have changed the results, by it being a rare or uncommon fish.
