Black combat boots smoothed down the green grass that covered a vast area in front of Beakon High School. Wearing a frown and an emotionless expression Rain, a black haired girl adorned in combat boots, black Tripp shorts, and a black T, trudged along the grass that lead up to the entrance of her oh so loved High School. Rain tied her pitch black hair back in a spiky pony tail, allowing two full strands to fall, framing her delicate face and stubborn chin. Just last night she had dyed the ends of her hair a deep red. Rain's back pack thumped at her side, banging against her left leg. Both of her hands held onto the strap at her right shoulder. Inside Rain was watchful and on edge, ready to strike back or run. Her legs had an airy feeling, as she barely put any weight on them. She found it was easier to run that way. Outside she looked calm and without emotion. Whosoever took her in as a quiet, keep to herself loner was wrong. Dead wrong. Rain stood beside a large tree, it's branches like a veil over her. She pressed her left side against the tree trunk and sighed, her eyes closing. Her stomach was tight and her hands shook. Today was Monday, the sixth week in school. A choice group of popular, flirty, slutty girls had chosen Rain to be their target of humiliation for their sophomore year. But Rain didn't want to deal with it. Not today. Last night hadn't been good for her. Jim, her damn step father was drunk again. Her mom made sure Rain stayed in her room, but she couldn’t protect her daughter from hearing the shouts of her mother and the sound of hand striking flesh. Rain sighed. Realizing that shed be late if she didn’t sprint her way to class, she made her way towards the doors and opened them slowly, walking inside. She cringed slightly at the sight of all the students. Different colors, styles of clothes, boys, girls, groups of people cluttered around lockers. Brushing a strand of her hair behind her ears Rain made her way to Science class. She placed down her books upon the large lab tables with a heavy sigh. She sat down and placed her head in her hand as she gazed around. Slowly other students began to fill the large, white washed room. Rain felt something bounce of the back of her head. She furrowed her brow and turned around to see two boys snickering behind her. “Bastards..” She whispered and turned around. Will this ever stop? What did I do to them! I don’t even know who those boys are! She thought to herself. Mr. Grey entered the room, his hooked nose in the air and his beady black eyes narrowed at the teenagers. “Good morning students. I trust you had a fun weekend.” He said, his voice dull and drowsy. It made Rain want to fall asleep. She laughed to herself silently and smiled. The last name Grey fit him perfectly. “Hey Mr. Grey! I went to a Green Day concert on Saturday!” Someone yelled. Rain looked behind her. The speaker was a brown haired, green eyed boy from the back. “It was so awesome! I had the best weekend ever!” He added. everyone laughed. Rain turned back around and rolled her eyes. “That makes one of us…” Muttered the Science Teacher. No one but Rain heard his complaint. “Well class, we will begin today with a lesson on molecules..” And so the lecturing began. Rain opened up her note book and wrote “Notes” at the top. Five minutes before class was to end Rain’s note book paper was full of doodles. Mostly of Horses and crying eyes. “Hm.” She smiled and nodded to herself. She was pretty good. The bell rang and everyone stood up. Shoving her notebook into her bag Rain stood and ushered forward towards the door. “Rain, may I see you for a moment?” Came Mr. Grey’s voice. Rain stopped and closed her eyes, biting down on her bottom lip. “Of course.” She said, putting on a fake smile and turning around, walking to the teacher’s desk. He sat on the other side of the desk. Sighing he removed his glasses. “I want you to take a look at this.” He said, handing her a paper. It was the test she had taken last Friday. “I don’t get it. It’s an A.” Rain said, handing it back to Mr. Grey. He licked his lips and placed the paper on the desk. “Yes but, I don’t understand Rain. You get all A’s on your tests and quizzes, but I fail to get any homework from you. Can you tell me why?” She shrugged. “I don’t know.” He sighed yet again. “Well if I don’t get tonight’s homework by Wednesday I’ll have to call home.” Rain cringed and nodded. “Yes sir, I’ll have it in.” He smiled. “Rain you’re a smart girl, you should use your skills.” “Yes sir.” She replied without emotion. She had heard it all before. How smart she was. Everyone said she could get real far, if only she tried harder. Why couldn’t she make it the way she was? Why did she have to change herself in order to be happy!? Nodding to Mr. Grey, Rain exited the Science room and headed to Math.

The clock read 12:30. Rain was indulged in a peanut butter sandwich and a leather bound book. She sat in the corner of the Cafeteria, a little place that was all her own. No one ate there besides her. Occasionally an emo kid would munch on his food there, but mostly it was just her and her sandwich that she packed herself. “Hey weirdo.” Someone voiced. Rain slowly raised her head, an eyebrow cocked. “Scuz’ me?” She said, her voice was cold. It was Caitlyn, a tall brunette whose favorite past time was making Rain’s life a living hell. “Ugh, are you so stupid you can’t understand English!?” Insulted the brunette, placing a hand on her hip. Behind her, Valeria, a black haired Mexican girl who was formally Rain’s friend, turned Preppy b***h popped her bubble gum. “Ya, freak.” She said, Rolling her eyes. Rain rolled hers as well. “I do believe I speak English. It’s whore that I have a hard time understanding.” Spat Rain, a smirk playing across her lips. Caitlyn scowled and began to walk away. “Watch your back freak.” She said. Rain raised a hand and smiled. “Take care bit-I mean Katie!” She said with a fake smile. “b***h..” Mumbled Rain, biting her sandwich and returning to her book. Sixth hour was upon her at last. This was her favorite class: Art. Welcoming, Familiar scents greeted Rain as she entered the room. Her sketchbook was hugged against her chest. Sitting at one of the tall stools she flipped her sketchbook open and viewed the three pictures she had made the previous night. Her favorite was a beautiful black Stallion. He was standing at the edge of a cliff, the moon high above. Tears rolled down his cheeks. His back legs were spread far apart and his front set back and snapped together. His face was tilted upward, as if gazing at the heaven’s and asking: “Why?” Rain smiled. He was perfectly sketched, and it was almost as if he came alive on the paper. “That’s beautiful.” Rain looked up to see a Vietnamese girl named Jennifer standing in front of her table. “Thanks.” The girl smiled and took her seat at the table across from Rain. “Ya…he is beautiful.” Rain whispered. She had yet to name the horse drawing. Usually she did. Grabbing for a pencil she sketched the name at the left side of the paper in gothic lettering : “Bloodstone.” She smiled. That was perfect. It depicted his blood red mane and tale perfectly. While he had the shinning black coat to complete his form. His mane was crinkled and large fetlocks covered his hooves. Taking a deep breath she crossed her arms on the desk and buried her head in them. Class ended and Rain hurriedly made her way out of the class room and on her way to the main door of the school. Just as she was about to walk out the door, Caitlyn stepped in her way. Groaning and rolling her eyes Rain arched here eyebrows. “What now!?” Caitlyn looked to Valeria. “You should be nicer to us you know. We do kinda like control this whole school.” Rain raised both eyebrows and shook her head. “Ya, whatever.” She said, trying to move past them. “Um not so fast.” Caitlyn smiled sweetly and flicked a piece of her brown hair from her face. “You’re a witch right?” Rain stood straight and inclined one eyebrow. “Aye. So?” It took the brunette a minute to realize what “Aye.” meant. “Whatever. Anyways, you know Bobby Brown?” Sighing, Rain licked her lips. “Ya.” Valeria cut in. “Um Caitlyn, do we really need to ask for…her help?” Asked the black haired girl, a sickened look on her face. “I’ll deal with it Valeria, just back off.” Snapped her friend. Rain rolled her eyes. “Ladies?” Caitlyn turned to Rain, she nearly forgot she was there. “Oh ya anyway, I need you to cast a spell on him. You know, like bad acne or something. Or make him fall of a bridge..” She said, a smile on her lips. “Your crazy. No.” Said Rain, pushing past the girls and walking outside. Caitlyn and Valeria followed. “Well, that’s what you do right? You cast spells on people?” Rain stopped and turned around. “No Caitlyn. We don’t.. It’s idiots like you who believe things like that. Witches worship the earth and find strength from it.” Rolling her eyes she turned back around and began walking. She heard the girls scowl and mutter something. “Whatever…” Rain whispered and walked home.

“I’m home!” Called Rain, entering the white trailer and closing the door softly behind her. “Hey girl. How was school?” Jim, her step dad asked, his voice slurred. Clearly he was drunk. “Fine, Jim.” She said, venom in her voice. Rain began to walk to her room. “Hey girlie where you goin’!? Aren’t you gonna show some love to your dear ol’ dad?!” She turned around and smiled. “I’m sorry Jim.” She said, flicking him the bird. He laughed. “You don’t know who your messin’ with. Get yer a** over here.” Rain ignored him and continued her walk to her room. “I said come here!” Jim was on his feet and lumbering towards the girl. Rain’s instincts flashed and she turned around swiftly, dropping her backpack from her shoulder and facing him. “JIM! Leave the girl alone!” Came her mother’s voice from the other room. And just in time too, Jim was nearly upon the girl. “Fine women! You win this time!” He yelled back. Eyeing Rain he whispered to her. “This aint over girl.” Rain gulped, but showed no fear. Her step father snickered and returned to the T.V, beer can in hand. Narrowly escaping Jim’s grasp, Rain disappeared into her room and shut the door behind her. She smiled slightly, her back pressed to the door. The walls were colored a dark blue and the ceiling a black. Her bed was a regular, four poster, twin size. Her comforter was a midnight blue, adorned with a few stuffed animals. A black canopy hovered over the bed. her red wood desk nuzzled itself in the corner of the room, piles of pictures and notebooks resting on it. Across her bed on the other side of the wall next to the large window sat a bookshelf. Many books crammed the shelves. Next to Rain’s bed on the left side was a small bed stand, a Harry Potter light fixture on it. Rain pushed off from the door and dropped her bag on the bed. A meow was heard and Salem, her black cat emerged from under the bed. “Hey sale.” Rain cooed as the cat jumped into her lap. She smiled, running her hand along it’s back. The cat purred in pleasure. Around it’s neck was a leather necklace with a Pentagram. The only light was provided from the Harry Potter lamp. Rain sat cross legged on her bed and wrote into her black diary. It was made of a sort of metal, and a rain drop was on the front. It was something her mom had given her when she was little. Sighing deeply, Rain took in her bedroom’s scent. It was rich and smelled of the sea. It was probably the Pirates of the Caribbean incense that she used. She shrugged and buried her face in her black silk pillow. It smelled like a ship to her. She loved the sea. Water was her element, but sometimes she felt like she was fire also. Rain settled with the fact that she was blue fire. Ugh, I hate homework.. She complained silently as she started on her Science homework. It wasn’t due till Wednesday but she wanted to get a head start. A half hour later she was no further than when she started. Instead she was shading in the mane of a horse on the corner of her paper. Sighing, Rain looked to the clock at her bed stand. It read 7:30. Heaving herself off the bed Rain went to the bathroom to take a shower. When she emerged she came face to face with Jim, leaning against the door way, beer belly jutting out of his white T-shirt. “Ah!” Rain screamed, clutching the towel around her body. “W-where’s mom!?” Her bottom lip quivered slightly. “Grocery store. Shell be gone a while.” Jim’s voice was low, his gaze on Rain, her hair and body wet from the shower. This sickened her, and she wanted nothing more than to disappear “At seven at night!?” Jim shrugged. “Ya well I toled her we needed a few things.” He said with a smirk. Rain knew he had sent her mom away on purpose. She clutched at the towel. “I…I gotta go..” She said and tried to push past him. “Not so fast.” Rain looked down and bit down on her bottom lip. Jim was breathing hard, his gaze on her. Rain knew he was staring at her and it disgusted her to no end. “Jim please…” He grabbed her by her shoulders and pushed her against the wall roughly. “Please…don’t do this.” She said with tears in her eyes. Her step father ignored her pleas and reached for the towel, prying it from her shaking fingers.

Hours later Rain sat on her bed, hair now dry and cheeks tear stained. Inside her a storm was raging, she could almost hear the lightning and feel the thunder. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed. The sky darkened and rain poured from the heavens. The girl lifted her head and looked out at the open window. Slowly she walked to it and gazed outside. It was storming, the sky was lit with Lightning and rumbling with angry thunder. Rain stared out the window with a stone cold gaze. Wind from the storm ruffled her black hair lightly and sent chills down her spine. She heard cursing from Jim as the power cut out. Rain lit a few candles in her room. It wasn’t like she needed to. She was comfortable in the darkness, more comfortable then when she was in the light. Her icy blue eyes lit up and sparkled like blue fire. Somehow she couldn’t help but feel a bit responsible for the storm that raged outside.
