SAMPLE NUMBER TWO :
“No big deal partner, you’ve met my family and it’s pretty big too. You had to deal with my insane relatives, that wasn’t a cake walk. Mom, dad, two older brothers, a younger sister, and brother. Throw in their boyfriends, girlfriends, and fiancée’s. Lucy can’t have a bigger family than that.” Gavin tries to cheer his friend up, remembering when he had introduced his family to the guy. They hadn’t treated him like anything other than a part of their blood. Gavin’s mother was taking pictures of them all and made sure Andrew was included in the pictures. It was a good memory. “Besides, I’ll be there to back you up. I’ve always got your six Andrew.” Gavin gives his friend a warm smile, hoping that has reassured him.
Gavin looked up again when his partner said something about a break in their case. “Damn, I was hoping it wouldn’t be the friend. When we interrogated him he seemed to be honestly telling the truth about what happened…Maybe we’ll find something at his house, something that the wife left there.” He follows his partner at the signal, prepared to take them in his car to the suspect’s house to carry out the arrest warrant. Not that either of them really wanted to arrest him, but it was going to take further investigation to unravel this one.
"Did you sleep okay last night?.. You look like you've been thinking too much about something again." At Andrew’s innocent question, Gavin was thrown a little off balance, his mind racing to something he could say instead of blurting out his true feelings.
”Don’t worry about it Andrew, my neighbor was just keeping me up with loud music last night,” An innocent lie, and explained the bags under his eyes and his exhausted look. However, those were for a completely different reason than his neighbor. He couldn’t possibly tell Andrew that though, if he even uttered those words he’d probably die of embarrassment. Even just thinking about it Gavin was blushing lightly…This wedding was going to be difficult. To distract him from those thoughts, Gavin pulled out his cell phone and dialed a familiar number of a district attorney friend of his, ”Hey, Sally can you get me a warrant to search our suspect, Mr. Robinson's house? We're hoping to find more evidence from the wife inside that will either clear him or prove he's guilty.” He waits a second, listening to Sally typing on her keyboard, at her affirmative that she'll try to get it signed by a judge as soon as possible, he thanks her kindly.
Gavin led the way down to the parking garage and hopped in the driver’s seat anxiously. He didn’t want to do this, almost as much as he didn’t want to watch his best friend get married away, but they had a duty to uphold and they would have to believe in the system for the time being. ”Hopefully we’ll find something to get this guy off, he may have been having an affair, but it was obvious he cared for the girl. And honestly, you’re gut feelings are usually correct.” When he started the car up, rock music came crashing through the speakers, not even shocking Gavin who was used to it. That’s how he drove everywhere, not to mention the music pumped him up just in case he had to run after perps.
The house of Mr. Robinson was across town and it took them a little bit to get there in traffic, but Gavin found them pulling up to a nice looking two story with a brick front. The yard was well kept and had colorful flowers that a guy wouldn’t have normally taken care of. In Gavin’s mind he liked to believe that the wife spent her time fixing up the house of the guy she cared for…but who knows. He got out of the car silently and walked up to the front door with his serious workface on. Gavin knocked on the door with loud, sturdy knocks, dreading Mr. Robinson answering their call. In his pocket he feels his phone buzz, and quickly checks it while they're still waiting for Mr. Robinson to answer. It's a text from Sally saying she's on her way with the signed warrant.
It took a few minutes, but their suspect answered the door with a pleasant smile that quickly turned into a worried expression. ”Mr. Robinson, we have a warrant for your arrest, I am now going to inform you of your rights and escort you to my car where we will return to the station.” Gavin wasn't overjoyed to be having to do this, but it was his job and the best he could hope was they cleared him quickly. When he had put Mr. Robinson in the back of his mustang, Gavin turned to Andrew, ”do you wanna take him back and put him in a holding cell or stay here and look for more evidence? Sally's on her way with a signed warrant for the entire house and property.”
