Also, your friend spelled shounen-ai wrong. It's 少年愛 (boy love) (shounen-ai), not 初年愛 (first year love) (shonen-ai).
Might I suggest that you correct him on that?
Also, his fanfic cannot be a shounen-ai, considering that mello is 18 and older in the majority of his scenes.
Unless, of course, in his fanfic, Mello is younger.
At least, I'm guessing this shounen-ai involves Mello in some way.
Of course, words change with time, so I guess it could be the proper term. But, he still didn't spell it right.

Speaking of mail...

Mailbox makes little actual sense as a joke.
Contrary to popular belief, Matt's real name, Mail (Jeevas), is not pronounced 'mail,' as in a letter, but it is instead pronounced like the world, 'mile.'
And 'milebox' does not make any sense.
It is because his first name, Mail, is written in katakana as マイル (Mairu), and when pronouncing that (considering you don't understand how Japanese vowels are properly pronounced), it sounds like the word, 'mile,' with the Japanese 'u' sound (in English, like 'oo' as in 'food') at the end of it.
His name is NOT written as メール, is my main point, but if it were mailbox would then indeed be a funny joke, until it would get overused.
Plus, if it were written like that, it would probably end up getting translated into English as either: Male, Mell, or Mel. Mail is also an option, too, of course.
Or, they would just keep it as something stupid like Meeru, Meru, or Meer. And, considering how most Americans would pronounce the double 'e' sound, his name would just sound retarded.
That concludes today's lesson in Japanese translation. =3

I LOVED making fun of them. It was like heaven. =D -memories-
