Gold getting list:

50g - 1st post in a forum (if you get to the point of little gold, wait a while and try again)
40g - 1st comment in avi arena voting or 1st comment to another's profile page (go ahead and comment on mine for practice)
50g - 1st journal entry (be sure to delete that entry each time, or it will only be 40g next time)
14g - 1st avi arena vote
14g - poll vote

For other various amounts of gold try a puzzle, or shaking trees and looking under rocks in town.
