I first heard them on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack. The song was "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want", and it perfectly described what I was going through at the time. It seems like a shallow reason in retrospect, but that was pretty quickly supplanted by a more serious appreciation of their music. They've been my favorite band for more than 20 years.
