*The idea of fusion was something that never even crossed Peridot's mind. It was true that if they didn't have a back-up plan, things could go terribly wrong for the two of them. They didn't really have any other options. Still... Would she be a strong enough partner to fused with? Fighting wasn't her expertise. The green gem didn't have much she could offer Jasper in that regard.*

*Even though she had trouble working with Jasper at times, Peridot knew having her there made it much easier for her to adjust to their current situation. It was fortunate that she did have the escort around or else she may have already been cracked. Their current situation with Lapis was unlike anything she had experienced before. Not only was this gem more than capable of finishing her off in one go, but she was also so unstable that it was almost impossible for Peridot to make guarantee a safe outcome. Any minor slip-up could shred apart their entire ruse. The tech gem knew she had to be careful.*

The answer is obvious Jasper.

She's been trapped on that horrid planet for who knows exactly how long. The only reason she cares so much about Steven's safety is because it's the first thing to ever care about hers.

I'm pretending to sympathize with her so she'll consider me a "friend" as well. She's just as impressionable as a human.

... I suppose you're right. I didn't know her; the only data I have about the Revolution comes from extensive research.

No amount of research can compare with living through the real thing.

However, I still have an assignment I need to complete. I'm going to check on the Cluster and reactive the Kindergarten.

*For a moment, all she could really do was stare at the pile. It was partly her own fault for ridiculing Jasper, but it wasn't as if the warrior was without fault in Peridot's mind. Either way, she'd have to suck it up and ignore the saliva covering her fingers if she wanted keep them. The other gem was unpredictable and could easily take her fingers hostage again.*
