Hello and welcome to my art contest! Well…art contests. Currently I am writing a story and am wishing to obtain art of my main characters. So I decided instead of hunting endlessly for someone to commission that I would have a contest instead. Also, this way I can see how well the pictures match what I am looking for so I know if I need to alter my descriptions at all. So before proceeding keep in mind this will be OC art!

There have been some updates in the rules and descriptions. Now full body sketches are acceptable. I realize some people sketch better than the do with coloring. Plus it saves time and it will hopefully draw in more people.

I restarted the poll also, because I am finally starting to advertize. As such I was wanting to watch and see if it is being as effective as I would hope for it to be. The old poll is here:

2) Feel free to ask any questions in order to get a better idea of the character(s). Though please SEND THE QUESTIONS VIA PM (unless I am online and currently active in the thread).
3) Please watermark or put your name in the submissions otherwise don’t complain if some jerk decides to steal it. Mind you I WILL NOT STEAL ANY ART! I don’t want anyone to think I am going to steal them. Since you will be putting work and effort into this and since there is only going to be one winner for each I will not take your art. ONLY if you want me to have the picture whether you win or not I would be pleased to accept! ^_^
4) No stolen art! If your art is not your original art you shall be reported and disqualified.
5) Please be respectful to me and the other contestants and do not bash anyone’s work.
6) You can withdrawal from the contest if you wish without complications, just let me know so I can take you off the list.
7) You do not have to stick to the attire shown in the avis. They are just their to help so feel free to design any sort of clothing along the guidelines I will list for you for each character.

Q: When doe’s this contest end?

Q: How many entries can I make?
A: I HAVE CHANGED THIS RULE!!! You can make as many submissions as you wish. ^_^

Q: How much does it cost to enter?
A: NOTHING! It is free! All I ask is for you to do your best and that is payment enough

Q: Do I have to host my image?
A: Yes you do UNLESS you give me rights to your art. Then I can host it if you wish.

Q: Who will be the judges?
A: Me (shmallow) of course and Elf_Wind

Q: What kind of art do you want?
A: Full body color is the main requirement. UNLESS you are one of those people who can do very detailed sketches. Those are now acceptable as well. Backgrounds are optional but it will definitely give you bonus points if they are included. No dolls, chibis, or avi edits! NOTE: exceptions can be made for the pic. though it is to my own authority. EX: half body pic but very well done I will accept.

Q: What’s the secret word???
A: I saw this on another contest ( Rose and Streppy's Art Contest ) and thought it was a wonderful idea. This will prove you read through all the rules and F.A.Q.’s Secret word = shmallow (hah! Imagine that!)

Q: Why are you being so aggressive about reading through everything?
A: gonk I am sorry I don't want to sound like I am yellin at everyone but people keep asking me questions that are already answered here and it rather annoying! stressed crying

A: MANY APPOLOGIES! As I recieve PM's about the contest I realize the info I lacked to put in. I now add on Q & A's (located beofre the list of submissions for each contest) I have received about the char. if I feel they need to be known! So check back regularly and if things changed after submission you can always change it but otherwise I will take my own fauklts into accoutn when judging.

You are not required to stick to the clothing I have adorned my characters in when it comes to the avi’s. Because I can’t draw myself and I haven’t commissioned any art for them yet, making avitars was the best I could do. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR AVI ART, CHIBIS, OR DOLLS! Later, when there are more submissions, I will indicate the various pictures that are along the lines of what I am looking for. What they are wearing is basically there to give you an idea how they dress. Feel free to create any outfit you like for them as long as it is styled like clothing found in the medieval era and along the guidelines specified. I am only looking for individual art for the first few contests! The only exception is the elderly couple (must be art as a couple) and if you choose to illustrate both forms of a character in one picture (would definitely give you extra bonus points). Keep in mind it would be in your favor to do both forms for Kira/Najel, Tohara, and Quamra because any entries with both will definitely have higher priority.

NOTE: ONE WINNER PER CONTEST!

Kira/Najel (Guitar of Demona + Muchi the Puppy = 85,000)

Tohara (Guitar of Angellus + Demonbow = 70,000)

Sorien (February 2006 Letter + Wind Security Blanket= 60,000)

**BEING JUDGED!**

KIRA: Her human form looks basically like the avitar. But wrapped around her waist is a dark brown scarf that is tied at her hip. She also has a small wooden flute. You can either have her playing it or it can be tucked away safely in her make-shift belt. Kira is a quiet, shy girl appearing to be around 18 years of age. She is often found shopping in the market place for food for the inn she lives at.

NAJEL: Her other form under which she is known as Najel though is considerably different. Her look is similar to that of the darker avi but her skin is not like humans but instead hard, smooth, and scaly like a serpent. Its color changes to that of its surroundings as well as her hair color. Her eyes though always stay a penetrating blue. Another thing that changes is her ears, they elongate to that similar to elves when she changes to this form. She also has razor sharp claw-like nails. Another peculiar trait is how she can make her body disperse into a million black butterflies if she wishes. Najel is emotionless. Her face never changing, she is loyal to her master and mother Quamra. She is the leader of her queen’s forces and slaughters her enemies without a second glance. Quamra keeps her bound by the use of a special flute and tune that was crafted just for this reason by a powerful sorcerer. She only needs to play it when Najel appears to be trying to resist her.

Kira/Najel Guidelines:

• Kira must be dressed commoners clothing and have a flute somewhere in the photo.
• In the form for Najel you may put shackles like that of the avi. Since she is a slave of sorts I added them on to represent this. Only when at home is she chained down. In battle though all she wears to signify her slavery is the collar around her neck.
• Due to Najels hair her forehead is hidden as it often is, but if it is exposed for some reason she has a deep purple gem set in the center of her forehead.
• Najel can be dressed in slave like clothing but still looks good on her. Either that or dressed for battle. She has no particular weapon of choice so you can have fun with that as well.
• Also on a side note, upon her left bicep is a thin scar. Be sure to include it if that area is exposed. (like this in both forms)

NOTE: It would be in your favor to submit both forms!

Q & A's:

Q: What shape is Najel's gem? Smooth or Faceted? Teardrop or dimond or so on and so forth?
A:. Najel's gem will be oval shaped and smooth.small but noticeable. maybe like 3/4 in? I dunno you can experiment with that if you like.

Q: About their flutes....
A: The flute: Kira's will just be common. a regular wodden flute with maybe some designs carved into the wood. Quamras though will be special. Her will be dark and evil looking but I haven't come up with a definite look so I am using entries as a source of inspiration for that as well as other things.

This is Tohara’s human form. In his Aleceri form his skin is hard, smooth, and scaly. The tone is primarily a teal color but it is tinted green. His ears also become longer and to a point like an elf. His personality is warm and comforting. Only when the life of a loved one is threatened or in the heat of battle does he turn into a hardened statue of his former self. Always serious until he can rest with ease. Towards Kira he is kind and inviting but when facing Najel it is obvious he loathes this woman. He is the leader of the Royal Gaurd who leads Aleceri army.

Tohara Guidelines:

• If for some reason his back is exposed he has a large scar running diagonally across it from right shoulder to left hip.
• Tohara can be dressed anywhere from a commoner to royalty since he is royal guard.

NOTE: It would be in your favor to submit both forms!

Q & A's:

Q: He is the same race as Arema?
A: Yes he is. As such I need to add that their race has webbed toes and feet as well as gills.

This is my character Sorien. He appears to be around the same age as Kira His mouth is only that way in order to portray that he is a very bright and upbeat human boy. He is a loyal friend to Kira and is often found by her side prattling on about nonsense. Those that knew him weren’t blind. It was obvious he was in love with Kira even though she showed no signs of knowing. To her he was like a brother to her.

Sorien Guidelines:

•Just be sure to make his appearance somewhat messy and yes he is a commoner.

This is Temohon and Mimitsu. They are human like Sorien and are in fact his grandparents. These avi’s just represent their younger self. Now they are much older and their hair has turned grey. The are both still in pretty good shape though for their age and run an inn at the edge of town. Temohon is a short tempered man but he grudgingly shows his loved ones that he cares for them through small acts of kindness. Mimitsu on the other hand is a warm good natured lady who was always willing to lend a helpful hand our give sound advice. She is a very wise woman.

Temohon and Mimitsu Guidelines:

• REMEMBER THEY ARE AN OLD COUPLE! You can’t make old people avitars so that is just a younger version of themselves. They as well are commoners.

**BEING JUDGED!**

This is Arema, the queen of the Aleceri. She looks like this except for the fact her skin is hard, smooth, and scaly. Her skin changes with her every movement to the colors of her underwater home. In other words, blues and greens of all shades ripple over her skin. She is a kind hearted woman who is ancient among her people. In her culture the queen is the one with the greatest amount of power but she does not belittle her husband Taithmar.

Arema Guidelines:

• She lives underwater! (fresh water not salt water) So if you plan to have a background for her, be sure to keep this in mind.
• She is the Queen of her people! Be sure to keep this in mind when designing her clothes.
• good question Archer! she is does not wear shoes! ^0^
• No pictures are to be done in human form!

Q & A's:

Q: Does she have gills? Fins? What?
A: She has webbed hands and feet as well as gills. Sorry I forgot to mention that @_@ SHE DOES NOT HAVE A TAIL!! IS NOT A MERMAID!!

Q: Fresh water? Really? oO that's kinda nasty
A: Eell I haven't developed the story to that extent yet. I am hoping to get inspiration from submissions. This would is not earth that they live on. Its a fantasy story so I made up a whole different kind of reality. Like LOTR and whatnot. so honestly it doesn't have to be like our freshwater. It is a lake though. But you can have fun with it! Since I have no real specifics its not like there would be and negative points for being creative on that aspect.

~an almost too perfect ref. pic. O.O *found while surfing online. i do not claim this as my own nor as my char. just a ref. pic.*~

This is Quamra, queen of the Diasri. Her skin is hard and scaly yet very smooth and colored like an oil spill reflecting many colors in certain light. From her back sprouts two butterfly-like wings. Patterned with many deep purples, greens, red, blacks, and other colors it also resembled an oil spill. The thin membrane is somewhat see through and when fully spread they were a 7 foot spread wide and the ends barley touched the ground though the tops are an extra foot above her head. Her ice blue eyes penetrate darkness and her pointed ears are highly sensitive. She is a very seductive and dangerous woman, having seduced the prince of the Aleceri, Shiroshen. Even her king is puny in the eyes of her people and she pays him little mind.

Quamra Guidelines:

• Be sure to include the scar across her nose. Also SHE HAS WINGS! She must have these in her picture.
• She is the Queen of her people!They live in a cave system but she is often seen at battle so if you have a setting it can be caves or forestry or the sky for that matter since she can fly.
• UPDATE! (9/7/06) PICTURES IN HUMAN FORM ARE ALOUD!
• In her human form she is disguised as a gypsy
