!~ SPECIAL FREE RAFFLE ~!
I haven't been on gaia much this month, so I wanted to hold a special free raffle for all those who tried to stop by during this downtime.
Saying that, this raffle is only "Free" to those who have posted in July.
Everyone else is still allowed to join in, but must pay the regular rate of 6k if they win.

I'll work on a proper summary of the current story I had planned posted up eventually when I ever get that organized. ^^;

This will not mean I'll be going in through another revamp or dropping the aphids. I just don't really have time for that XD;
Just think of it as timewarping a few years (A few dozen seasons in UB time). Still in the "past" but not realliez.

Obvious from the first posts' text, the Aphidian Saga is an event that takes place in the past, which is then relived through the eyes of Brahms, this guy to the left <3

By the by, this lil guy is Marmashell, he's the Magister General of the aphid army. Ain't he cute?
But since this whole thing has set me back by 2 months, it may be awhile yet til I can get that storyline going. This will be unlike a regular event, but something that will be on going, as to encourage RP and the like.
But most of the ideas I've had about the event I've pretty much forgotten so til I can rethink/remember them, Marmashell won't be showing up til then.

2. Don't steal art, claim another's pet as your own etc. Simply just don't steal.
3. No Whining / Advertising / Begging / Spamming etc. It's annoying, don't do it. But you can post links if someone specifically asks for them. That and interesting media links. -ish addicted to youtube-
4. Once your pet reaches it's last stage, please save it to your own server.
5. I repeat, don't whine. If you badger me about how slow your pet is growing, it may just grow even slower. Heheh just kidding, just be patient, I have a life too ya know.
6. Pets, items, ANYTHING you buy from this shop can never be refunded or resold in any way. It's happened before and without my knowledge, I'm still a bit peeved about it >.<;;;
7. Contructive Criticism is acceptable. Please don't just say the pets or whathaveyou sucks. Say WHY it sucks, maybe that way I can try to improve my shop. (and yes, I know, I have no pretty banners and whatnot) >.<;
8. Even after you buy a pet, I still retain the right to use its image as I please. (for banners, samples etc.)
9. I reserve right to change rules/faq without notice. >.>;

FAQ

What are Unii?
Unii are are small, unicorn like creatures, with cat paws, a deer's tail, and black buggy eyes. But don't let their cuteness fool you, they're tempermental. :/

What are Aphids?
Aphids are green, plant-eating insects and natural enemies of the unii.

How much are they?
Flaffles are currently 6k.
Auction prices vary, but usually start at 10k, minimum increment 1k.
Raffle ticket prices may vary, but usually 100g each.

How fast do they grow?
Each stage lasts around a week or two. Growings usually occur on a weekend.

RP mandatory?
Not unless specified. But if you want to, go ahead and RP in the thread or guild, ya never know, something good may come of it. ^^
Some perks are being able to breed more, give off more offspring per breeding, and dedicated rpers have a chance to have their uni become an enlightened elder or gain free items/edits.

Basic RP Rules
- Humans and Guardians do not exist in Aphidian Storyline. But you are still welcome to use them in your own miniplots or in the shop thread.
- Be as literate as you can.
- Try to include everyone. No one likes to be ignored.
- A more complete list of RP Rules can be found in the in the guild.

How many can I have?
As many as you'd like. Can only get one per flaffle though. And never hurts to let others have a shot at one too <3

Can I co-own or co-bid?
Sorry, only for auctions. Max 2 people.

Can we have uncerted versions of our pets?
Yes, but there are some conditions >3
- They must be specifically asked for in 1 week of sale.
- Note that since I usually color at exact size, I don't have any bigger versions ^^;
- I will not give out any pixel uncerts. People can easily steal them from you, alter it and "make" it their own. And past experience shows me how fast and awful a situation like that can get. I don't like being accused of stealing my own artwork -.-;;;

Can we wait to name our pets / Can I change my pet's name?
Yes to both. You can wait til it grows to name your pet.
You can change their name at anytime for a small fee of 50g <3

Who drew the lineart?
Me, prprofs. I setup this thread, did the lineart, the shading, the cert etc.
Except the newly added Guardian lineart, which is done by the talented Draug Heltikana! <3

Hiring?
Not at this moment, no. Please don't ask. If I ever do need help, it will be made obvious.

Hmm, that's a general no, since I usually don't have a lot of freetime which I'd rather use on my shop.
Though I may take up a job for shading templates or inker, tho it largely depends on how many peices, and what you're offering.
And definitely not going to be making original lineart, unless I really know you and/or bribed heavily.

New to Bonsai? This is the old story explaining the setting of the "present"
Temple Garden

It was a still morning within the glade- sun was filtering softly through the dwarfed trees, dappling its rays upon any leaves or foliage it happened to cross. All was quiet for a few moments more, before a large amount of rustling began coming from several of the bonsai that littered the grounds.

Poking its head from the vine-like foliage of one such shrub, a Nitorendi stepped out upon a leaf, wrapping its tail about the thin branch as it moved to the end. Had something... just touched its tree? It puffed out, thick fur making it appear much larger than normal. Small, bug-like eyes peered cautiously around its territory. The uni was about to turn back into its shrub, when the rustling sound came once more. Freezing, the Nitorendi's eyes turned as did its body, before it stood face-to-face with a green, quivering insect.

Aphid.

A loud, threatening growl came from the uni's throat, fur puffing out even farther than before as he advanced a bit, trying to scare the creature away from his home. The aphid scuttled off the leaf and onto the grass below, moving quickly away. Satisfied, the uni sat back upon its haunches, vine-like tail curling about the twig beneath him. A smug, happy expression crossed its eyes, content that it had chased away the intruder from his plant.

The expression faded, however, as its gaze caught hold of something else. A mass of emerald insects coming from seemingly nowhere.

This was larger, more threatening. Quivering slightly, the Nitorendi dove back into the darker depths of its tree, wrapping itself about the spindly trunk and squeezing its eyes shut as hard as it could manage. This all had to be a bad dream, right?

It seems he wasn't the only one to have noticed the swarm, the neighboring unii have also begun to withdraw. As they waited in silence for the aphids to overtake their homes, a strange noise came from outside. Curious now, and tiny heart hammering within its chest, the uni stepped back up to its previous vantage point. Peering out between the leaves, dark eyes caught sight of a large (as far as unii are concerned), white creature, possibly a Caere, standing before the insects with its head in the air. A loud, roar-like sound came from its small lungs, before it began to advance boldly upon the aphids.

With that, the insects began to retreat.

Looking on in wonder at this point, the Nitorendi could only imagine what would ensue between this mysterious creature and the insects that threatened the glade. All about its bonsai, it watched as other oddly-shaped uni appeared and strode towards the onslaught of aphids, unafraid and confident. There was something... unnatural about those unii, but it couldn't quite put its paw on it.

The war had begun.

Singular: Uni
Plural: Unii; A tag of unii

The Aphidian Saga happens long before humans pillaged the pristine lands of the Unii.
This lush glade was bursting with plant life and therefore, other than the occasional spat, uni were never want for food.
So despite a uni's natural instinct to protect their particular bonsai, they are generally quite friendly with one another, but are still quite aggressive to any outside threat.

Their aggressiveness comes from being overprotective of their tree home. A uni's tree is their source of food and shelter. In exchange the uni will tend to the tree's needs such as trimming, gathering water (they have a knack to call on rain if done so in large numbers, how they do so remains unknown), churning the soil so it does not harden, and of course guarding it from aphids and other bugs that tend to harm the tree.
Unii are hardy eaters, therefore usually only one uni will occupy a single tree to make sure the uni will have plenty to sustain it. Their main food source are the tree leaves. Some may also eat the bark or sap. Like flowers, they have no gender and procreate by some sort of pollination. This is the only time that a uni will allow another to enter its tree. A single seed is produced from each parent. Both offspring is then tossed away from the parent tree so that they too can take root. After the seeds germinate and grow into a small sapling, they will produce a strange looking bud. When the bud blossoms, the form of a young uni will be revealed.

Other than breedings, these will be 3-stage pets.
Tree > young uni > adult uni
The seed stage is only shown for breedings. Most plants to be sold here will have already germinated into full-grown bonsais. The blossom stage will also be skipped because they are embedded deep within the tree so others tend to only spot the young uni once it is born and stirring about the edge of the leaves.
Tree: Also referred to in this shop as bonsai.
Nothing too spectacular. Though the coloring of the tree hints at what the uni may look like. Like flamingos, the color of their food dictates the color of their fur. Tree sizes vary, some being as small as a cup of tea, to as high as a yard. But those extremes rarely happen.
Kit: Personalities vary, but are usually quite shy at first meeting. They mainly communicate with gestures and some may already show signs of being able to communicate telepathically (though only images, they have yet to master words). They are about the size of one digit of your finger.
Adult: Fully grown at about half the size of your pointer finger. Their personalities are more settled and more often than not, the uni has become a bit more territorial when you come near its tree. ^^;
They can now communicate telepathically perfectly, though they'd still prefer to use images now and then. They find it more efficient than spewing a hundred words when a single picture would suffice.
*cough* Oh and, of course, unii can communicate to each other perfectly. (Although using gestures, even young can easily translate their meaning)
So for roleplaying, you can use words if your uni is talking to other unii. But others, like the aphid, may not understand and vice versa.
And though they're truly nongendered, feel free to rp your uni using 'he/she' ^_^

Depending on the kind of tree, different species of uni have evolved.
- Unii -

Species 1: The Caere
One of the most common breeds and also one of the strongest. The horn is longer to help protect what few vegatation there is. Their legs are quite muscular to allow them to jump from branch to branch with ease.

Species 2: The Ertiba
This common breed is smaller and slimmer than species 1. Its horn has also shrunk a bit. This is because their tree is abundant with leaves, they rarely have to walk very far to reach their food. Because of this, they are also more placid and laid back.

Species 3: The Nitorendi
One of the stranger species and a bit uncommon. Species 3 is marked by its spiraling horn that it uses to twist around the vine-y foilage which help keep it in place while its long tail works like a tongue and gathers large bundles of leaves at a time. Their paws have also shrunk because of the lack of need for them.

Species 4: The Elifica
Quite rare. A very finicky breed and one of the few to have wings. They will buzz around their shrub like home, trimming away to perfection. Since they have the power of flight, they prefer to fly to safety than fight, thus resulting in their horn degenerating into a short nub-like jewel. They are also one of the largest species. Their young already being the size of an adult common, their adult size stretching the entire length of one's finger. Because of how fragile their home is, unlike the common species, it will allow absolutely no one near its home, even for breeding, for the slightest extra weight may topple it.
This species does not breed and will only be sold at events or on the rare chance through customs.

Species 5: The Elicus
Like species 4, it is quite rare and even twice as territorial. Their tree is practically dying from being put into such a small pot. So this particular species has evolved to have wings and grow to thrice the size of a regular uni (though its mostly just fur). Their menacing false size and their incredibly long horn assure that all other uni know well enough to keep away.
This species does not breed and will only be sold at events or on the rare chance through customs.

Species 6: The Copakin
These are very special unii and quite hard to manifest. A tree is chosen and specially prepared so that a soul can be replicated. Usually an item considered important to the spector is placed next to the tree, when the ghost is lured in close enough, it's essence is copied. From there the uni born from it will hold a resemblance to the spirit's.

Enlightened Ones
Legend tells that aged unii, along with proper care, have been noted to grow to a 4th stage. In this stage their eyes become inverted into a blazing white and they grow to a humongous size! The size of the palm of your hand -nod nod- amazing right?
What, you don't think so? D:
Come on it's like comparing a marble to a tennis ball.

But it's a legend for a reason, meaning pretty much impossible without some dedication...

The Aphid Army
Singular: Aphid, aphidian, bug
Plural: Army, horde, infestation; An army of aphids

Comprising of green cuteness, they wreaked havoc on the unii glade, causing a great war that was said to have lasted many a season. They're voracious conquest is headed by the Magister General Marmashell, though time may have glossed over the truth.
Even now, the olden unii remember this dark saga as if it were happening now before their very eyes.
(Erm, okay it is, but remember Aphidian Saga is like the pre-world? of Uni Bonsai and we're just revisiting the past. And yes, I will keep blatently pointing this fact out, just because I lurve you guys) <333;;;

Aphids are nomadic, they travel from place to place in search of new feeding grounds. They will eat almost anything, often leading to the collapse of entire ecosystems. They don't have many natural predators to speak of, but they do compete for food with many others, their biggest rival are the unii, who are just as strong and hungry as they are.

Unlike the unii, they don't live in trees, they usually cluster atop the remains of whatever they just ate, using their immense numbers to provide warmth against the cold.
And as for breeding, who knows, no one's really seen aphid young before, though there's been speculation of an aphid queen. o.o

Unii aren't the only residents of the garden. At night, the stone guardians awaken. These guardians morph in the darkness from stone to living flesh.

(And guardians will not disappear completely for this storyline, for it takes place in past and present. But for storyline's sake, guardians are nonexistent and cannot be used within the plot.)

Guardians are quite uncommon, for even a single one is enough to propel evil. Guardians are also quite good-natured. Their kind eyes can see through a person's heart. If they deem it worthy, they extend their friendship and protection to the person. But, if they sense evil intent, they will not hesitate to attack you. For hidden behind their kind smile lies many sharp teeth.

Singular: Guardian
Plural: Guardians; A post of guardians

They come in 3 stages.
Horn > ward > guardian Samples: X X X
Horn: Guardians are gifts from the moon. For each horn comes a charm that dictates the color of their hide.
Ward: The horn has miraculously changed into that of a small guardian. Even now, the little one is instilled with an urge to protect and defend. However they are still young and small that they're the ones who need protecting. ^^;
Guardian: It is now a full fledged guardian. They are about the size of an adult saint bernard or other large dog. They have perfected their guardian skills and silently plod around the garden.

- first winner gets first pick, second gets second pick and so forth
4. Only one pet per winner. If I choose the same person twice, I'm just gonna redraw.
5. Winners must use form provided.

Aphidian Story Updates

The morning sun raised high above the miniature treetops. Some rays reaching past the tangle of branches to touch down and oversee a large gathering of young unii.
In this circle of little ones lay an empty space, as if a barrier kept them from breaking form, as if patiently waiting for something, someone, to fill in the void.
Just then, a mighty form, much larger than any normal uni, trod silently to the center. His light footsteps expertly swam through the wave of watchful eyes. Mane and tail, compiled of soft greenery, reflected brightly as they shuffled in his wake. The great uni finally laid down amongst the masses, completing the circle.

Ahem, now where was I? -.-;
Ah yes, many seasons ago, long before any of you were born, this peaceful world you have only known did not exist. Before the guardians, before that stupid human, there was just us, our homes, and THEM.

Yes THEM. Before they came our worst worry was a bit of bad weather. Just thinking of them still makes my tail quake.
-as if on cue, the elder's verdant tail quivered in response-

But who are "THEM"? The youngsters chorused.

Why, our natural enemy, the aphids.

But they're just aphids, aren't they easy to run off? The youngsters questioned.

You'd think so, but no, it was not just a few of them, for they were many, while we were so few.

The Aphidian Army began its deadly march. Countless homes were eaten to the bark, the unii fleeing, helpless to stop the innumerable horde. Their only goal being to strip the land of all that is green, hoping to satiate their never ending hunger.

Many of our uni kind even turned to the green demons as their new masters, hoping to join them for the small chance their homes, their very lives would be spared.

It was a glimpse of a grim future for us all.

But not everyone was so quick to surrender. The unii remaining stood their ground and fought back courageously! Sadly, they were grossly outnumbered, and one by one they fell to the horde...

But all was not lost.

Not sure where they hailed from, but one by one, five great warriors came to our aid. Their power and charisma were phenomomal, and soon came to be known as the five generals.
They directed the uni to build strongholds far from the aphidian line, where any and all unii can seek refuge or seek solace from a hard days battle. Through their help, the aphids were pushed back and it seemd the war would soon be won!
But I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself here...

The first to arrive was like a gift from the sun. Blazing white fur and a glorious crest spanned from his horn down to his neck. It was never proven, but it was rumored that he was the all-father of the unii, the very first of uni-kind.

Welcome to the Game Corner, what will be listed here are any kind of games and contests that are currently going on. These will never require gold, just a bit of your time, and maybe some luck.
I will try to have at least one game going on at any one time. <3

Prizes range from a Uni Bonsai pet to perhaps something more bizarre~
Basically it's an artdump for things I just don't use in an actual shop. XD
Random things from lineart I bought, to one stage stuff I wholly created myself. If lines not made by me, it will be credited.
Hey, with enough interest, who knows, I may really make a shop for a certain pet. Doubtful tho...

They're far too different from the UB's style of art to stick em on their cert, but I'll makeup stuff so they sorta relate to the shop if you wanna RP with em and the like. But basically they're sig candy.

ATTENTIONAYZ!
>> To clarify, people are only allowed to keep 1 win(2 prizes) a month.
>> When you do win you CAN give 1/keep 1, or keep/give both.
>> After getting 2 game pets, you can continue on rolling, just have to give any of those extra prizes to buddehs if you win again.

[ Sig Kitty ]

These felines are pretty small for their size, about the size of a real life kitten. :3
They are a nuetral party in the Aphidian Saga, taking the stance that it's just not their war. Though if some were to choose sides, they'd likely go with the unii. Being herbivores, they don't take kindly to the aphids greedy tactics.
As for the present day's setting, the Uni Bonsai Temple Garden, they still thrive and scurry about, easily hopping over the enchanted walls to and from the cityscape. Much to the annoyance of the Guardians, who believe they're bringing outside contaminants that may one day cause harm to the garden.

[ Rabbit Rams ]

Some shiver in either fear or delight when they hear the twinkling of bells.
Towering at the size of around 2 feet, these magical creatures are quite prone to mischief. >3
Masters of illusion, they can create elaborate traps. At night, the more friendly ones like to create ringed orbs of light to help guide lost travelers.
And despite how they look, they are a very athletic race, being able to run fast and jump high.
They have no place in the Aphidian Saga, unii and aphids alike are much too small to garner their attention. But that doesn't stop them from placing an occasional trap, just for chuckles ;3
Temple Garden timeline, they're still up to the same antics, they're targets just now include the Guardians and some unsuspecting humans.

Who Am I?
I am prprofs, short for Professor Profs. Spiffy name, no? No...
I'm a girl in RL, if that means anything.
As for origin of name. This was originally a character and mule for Towne of Grinn, another petshop of mine I -still- haven't finished. And is supposedly one of those always "happy" scientists.
Well that's all I will divulge at this point of time. (:

What is This?
Uni Bonsai is actually the third shop in creation. The first being the Towne of Grinn and second, the Shisa Shop. I just put the first two on hold because this shop seemed the easiest to finish ^^;

Who Made It?
Everything except the guardians in this shop were made solely by me.
The Guardian lineart was drawn by Draug Heltikana.

Riddle Me This
Sometimes I'll put a riddle, question or whatnot here, the prize will vary as well. Sometimes you can get a Uni, or a free item. Hmm, maybe even free raffle tickets, or an auction/item coupon.

What Be That?

This symbol represents "The Trinity" which is conveniently labelled as well, "The Trinity" yea... ^^; Oh and I drew this myself so please don't steal it. No brainer eh?
Anywho, this was made as a portal between the 3 shops I plan to make.
The 3 shops are different in story and concept. The Uni Bonsai's story is neither that light or that dark, but somewhere inbetween, therefore it is in the middle circle.
Go ahead, click on the black or white circle. Word of warning though, they're still under construction. ((aka crappy))

What's to Be
Possibilities for the -distant- future:
- Unii Furtacaud: Foxish type of unii that dwell in flowers
- Unii Cenlateque: Vine-ish and serpentine <3
- Have an Enlightened stage for each unii species
- Make items for guardians
- More items for unii
- Familiars: ladybug, mantis, butterfly, aphid, snail
- Better thread images -.-;
