★Welcome to Midnite and Star's second art contest! The first one turned out to be a wonderful experience and success and I hope that this one, with 5x the amount of prizes, will be even better. I love contests since I hate telling another artist what to do. I rather you feel inspired and free to work with your own perspective of the characters. Between the themes, personalities, or various settings of the characters, the possibilities are endless. In the end, I hope you find them as enjoyable to draw as I do!

...story... (novel project by Midnite)

In the Dream Realm exist the Dream Weavers, working under the Sandman, a gentle, boy-like entity. Bad Dream Weavers Co-exist with the Good Dream Weavers, a needed balance though the two kinds often clash. Even Bad Dream Weavers, however, fear the Nightemare Creators. Midnite is a Bad Dream Weaver, but rumored to be descended from a royal line of Nightemare Creators. Even her colleagues stay clear of her due to this connection. Midnite doesn't seem to mind. She takes pleasure in twisting dreams to something more... unpleasant. While she is not altogether cruel, she has no qualms in inflicting pain... and often enjoying it. She is disgusted by Star, a golden pixie-like Dream Weaver who's all sunshine and innocence, the type to frolic from dream to dream, weaving visions of gardens or mermaids. Midnite may find herself in her own Nitemare when a mission requires her to team up with Star.

Both embark on their dangerous journey through the Dream Realms. Midnite's cold shoulder to Star slowly fades as the girl proves herself to be more than sugary fluff witha genuine ability to love and determination to protect those she considers friends. As star is targeted by the Nitemare Creators, Midnite starts feeling strangely protective. Star is the first to see underneath Midnite's cold exterior and an unlikely friendship forms; they become the perfect compliments to each other. After all, how can there be darkness without light or light without shadows?

MODERN
Midnite and Star are more than just characters in a story. I originally designed them as a type of mascot when Midnite (my best friend) and I started an anime club for our local area. Midnite was inspired to start a story for them while I continued doing artwork for them. They are really exaggerations based off of us and we have taken them up as a type of alias. Because of this, not only can Midnite and Star be strictly fantasy characters, but can be in modern or anime-related settings as well.

Hair: Black (Sometimes dark purple or blue highlights)
Eyes: Silver
Favorite Colors: Black, black... and silver? Oh. Blood red.
Dream Weaver Power: Electricity/lightning (though is very fond of knives)
Personality: Usually looks cool and aloof. Gets excited by blades, blood, and scaring people... Star is her conscious or the "little angel on her shoulder". Midnite has softened since meeting Star but attempts to hide it. Often looses her train of thought.
Modern: Except for cool and aloof, the above still applies lol... the real Midnite is also a bookworm, writer, but still loves blades, blood, and scaring people... Don't piss her off, but if you do, hide behind Star.

Bulletin Announcement!
Just a reminder, Midnite's name is spelled Mid N I T E (not the actual Midnight). She gets frustrated seeing her name mispelled, so just a heads up from now on. 3nodding

Known Dream Weaver Power: Healing, golden light
Personality: Sweet, gentle, bubbly, often seems younger than she is. Loves cute and cuddly things. Has a personality that draws people to her. She is not above using puppy eyes to get what she wants--especially from Midnite. Fairly simple minded, when she gets an idea in her mind, she'll stick to it. Very devoted to friends. Can be mischevious on occassion.
Modern: Based more around my real hobbies.... Artist, writer, I love to create things and start projects. Both Midnite and I are complete Otaku, bookworms, and we play piano (Midnite also the violin and I somewhat the clarinet).

What to Draw

I'm giving you creative lisence based on the information given. I'd prefer art to include BOTH Midnite and Star, but they're still very welcome individually as well (if you want to do seperate but complimenting pictures for Star and Midnite, I'll consider it as a set). Feel free to give them a demon/angel wing such as I did or other such attributes to fit the theme. If you look through the gallery you'll see that I've encouraged people to be creative with their dress. Draw them chibi, draw them in fantasy, draw them modern. Draw them as battle-worm Dream Weavers; Draw them as lazy punk teens. Whatever you're inspired to do. If you have an idea and are not sure whether it would fit them--just ask. ^_^

Note that this is for FRIENDSHIP, not relationship (though that's a whole joke in itself since we're so close and Midnite is amused if people think that... I just shake my head and sigh. What can you do with a best friend like her? Who knows.. maybe someone would do an art on that.)

Some ideas if you're really stuck or need to pique an idea: Gothic lolita. Crossover w/ anime or movies. Incorporate opposites in unique ways. Setting in the Dream Realm (Dream Headquarters is on an island, ships take them to different dream dimensions). In modern/fashionable clothes that suit them. Star weaving good and pure dreams that can take you to a wonderful place outside of reality. Midnite weaving bad dreams that border on the nitemarish. Browsing through current art might also spark an idea!

Wow... I actually have two hours or so left before I go to bed. This commercial art class has really changed my sleeping habits XD That, and days that I work at waldenbooks just zaps the hours out of my day.

We started on our acrylic painting for our portfolios. I drove myself nuts a whole weekend trying to come up with something to paint... and ended up with my first idea. User Image

A fall and winter fairy (fall is a boy, winter a female). I'm loving it so far... though I hate starting and stopping each morning so today I stuck around for the afternoon class to continue painting. Might do that tomorrow too. ^^

How's everyone's holiday been so far?
