~Welcome and Introduction~

Welcome to the Children of the Sun (CoS) Crystal Stage Roleplaying Thread. This thread is for CoS Caretakers to roleplay their children in. To find out how to become a Caretaker, please click here to visit our thread in the Breedable/Changing Pets forum.

If you are looking for the main or one of the other stage-specific roleplaying threads, please choose one of the following links:

..General Roleplaying Rules and Guidelines..

MOST IMPORTANT: Have fun, but not if you can not be mature, polite, and thoughtful of others while doing so! ^_^

TOS / Rules & Guidelines: Read and obey.

Breedables RP Rules & Guidelines: Read and obey.

Godmoding: Please remember that the only character whose thoughts, feelings, and actions you can control or predict in roleplay is your own. Do not "damage call" or take over another person's character in any way without their express permission.

Disrupting Roleplay: Please do not chat or bump in this thread. If any out-of-character conversation is necessary for the sake of roleplay, you may add it to the end of your post, but you must format the text to "tiny" size.

Disrupting Settings/Universe: Please do not roleplay any of your other adoptables or post anything unrealistic to the universe. There are fantasy elements to this universe, but please keep events and the strengths/abilities of your character reasonable.

Style: There are many styles of roleplay, and most are welcomed here, be it simple prose or detailed paragraphs or whatever personal style you have developed or hope to develop as you post. However, there are a few things we would like to keep out of Children of the Sun roleplay.

a.) Emoticons, both image- and text-based.

b.) Chat-style actions and emoting, such as *ROFL*.

c.) Net-speak, 1337, and consistently poor spelling, grammar, or punctuation.

d.) Over-use of font formatting. Occassional formatting for emphasis or use of colors to differentiate characters is acceptable, but please do not rainbow your posts or rely heavily upon 16-point font.

e.) More than one quote layer in a response.

..Additional Rules and Guidelines for this Thread..

This is the Crystal stage roleplaying thread, and should therefore consist mostly of posts by Caretakers of Crystal stage CoS's. The goal of this thread is to provide a place for a Crystal stage CoS's Caretaker to become more comfortable roleplaying their Child and to develop and evolve their CoS through roleplay. If you want your Crystal stage CoS to interact with a Child or Starling stage CoS, please visit the Main roleplaying thread.

Your CoS is, at this stage, basically a self-aware pet rock. Other than a telepathic ability which we will explain in the next paragraph, your CoS has no abilities of noise-making, shape-shifting, or mobility.

How your CoS differs from a rock is that it is self-aware and telepathic. Please keep in mind that the telepathic ability does not come with a universal translator or instantaneous mind-to-mind com link, however. It is more of a gradual bond created between your CoS and its Caretaker.

Please also keep your CoS's individual statistics in mind and roleplay his/her abilities accordingly.

At this stage and the Child-Like stage, roleplay will take place on Earth, and the Caretaker will be as active in the roleplay as you choose. However, when your CoS reaches the Starling stage of development, the roleplay environment will be expanded to include the entire universe, at which point the Caretaker, being human, will be left behind. Because of this, we recommend that you roleplay your CoS from his or her perspective, rather than your own.

..Universe Information..

The time is present day, and the setting is our universe. The time has come for humanity to understand more about its own power and ability. Hence the arrival of the star children in the form of crystal to help re-educate mankind as to a greater cosmic purpose. Humanity must open its eyes to the greater world and life than that which encompasses the days of most from birth to death, lest the opportunity for growth pass by and all become lost.

Aerolyn 's Guide to Understanding the CoS Universe

To all those new to the Universe, I bid you a warm welcome! We are happy to see you can join us and help enrich our Universe through mutual interraction. However (as Arcturus and I have been openly discussing this issue) we are a bit concerned that those new to our strange world will feel...well...unfamiliar and alientated. So consider this your Grand Introduction!

Our Universe is one designed to be built by those participating in it. It's a very loose construct to begin with, one that must be defined and reinforced through active participation. This may seem like a daunting task, but it's really not as tough as it seems. Remember that you are as much the creator as anyone else in this Universe, and have an undeniable right to exercise the full extent of your powers. However, as there must be in a world such as this, there are limitations. Most importantly, all posts must be consistent. You may not create 'magical' solutions to your situations. All the same, you may not control someone else's actions, thoughts, or reality. You can, however, affect it by merely being a part of it. Lastly, you are not able to force your child into evolution...it is something that will happen naturally in due time.

So how does this whole growth process take place?

Take a moment to imagine yourself as your child, trapped in the form of a crystal. What would you think, experience, and feel? How would your child react to such an uncomfortable situation? How would you, as the caretaker, experience your crystal? Begin to create your internal and external worlds. Recall that caretakers are living in current time on Earth...so what is your life like? What part does your crystal play in your life? Does it have meaning? As you begin to create your environment and interract with other caretakers/crystals, you will begin to notice a change about you.

The second stage requires a bit more creativity and imagination as your child is actually a child and able to experience life from the point of view shared by the caretaker. Once again, imagine yourself as your child. How has your world changed? What is it you'd like to experience in the world? What would you like to learn? Now the caretaker become the facilitator, the one who assists in teaching the child directly. This is your opportunity to begin unlocking the secrets of our Universe and use your imagination to create limitlessly.

Remember that all thought is creation, therefore you can create anything you imagine. Those that learn the secrets of the Children of the Sun grow to be powerful beings known as Starlings. Once mastery of creation is attained, you are truly free to be anything and to experience everything.

Our world is a process, one you will become more familiar with in time ^^

Page 14: Meriko takes Maia out for a look at daily life. Solaris evolves to the Child stage! Elocyn and Bellatrix notice Solaris' new form and walk over to chat. Ahna and Shiaree discuss Errai while Betelgeuse continues to chat with the crystal herself. Marushii starts a new job delivering flowers. Betelgeuse heals Vanille of a headache. Mizuyousei goes in search of a shooting star.
Page 15: Maia evolves to the Child stage! Solaris goes for a walk while Mist chats with Elocyn. Atlas makes an attempt to contact Arielle, with mixed results. Alcor and Marushii have a philosophical discussion. Errai continues to draw some erroneous conclusions and his new Caretaker does the same. Vanille lands in the good old U. S. of A. Fluo visits Vanille. Mizuyousei stumbles - literally - across Caph.

Where Arcturus had led, she would follow.

A fiery sliver of light slashed its way down across the afternoon sky as a meteorite fell to earth. Burning brightly and ever smaller as it fell through the atmosphere, the meteorite carried its unique passenger on the final leg of her journey and finally landed explosively in a woodsy hillside, kicking up dirt and damp pine needles in a great, dusty shower.

Before, there had been one. Now there was Maia also, of greatly differing spirit but common purpose. For the moment, however, her purpose and all her potential were confined by the form she was bound in. Silent, still, and only peripherally aware, the small crystal cluster sat in the debris of her arrival and waited.

Note: I am assuming Arcturus is already "here," as he is in Child form. Let me know if I need to edit this Aero~
A strong breeze whispered through the tall grasses, making the poppy's heads bob delicately on their stems, bright blooms of red against the dull earth greens, browns and chalky creams of the South Downs. Sheltered by a tangle of blackberry bush rested the small childrenite cluster, still warm from its journey through the Earth’s atmosphere.

Inside his subconscious, Betelgeuse stirred, reaching mentally through the confines of his crystal. He’d made then, to this remote area of the English countryside. He could almost feel it, the chill on the early morning air, the tangerine and rosehip pink glow of the morning sky, the wispy sea mist that had rolled in from the coast only but a couple of miles away. It was peaceful, yet he still found himself apprehensive about the whole situation. This was all so new, and the unfamiliar was always a little daunting at first. What he had expected though, now he wasn’t quite sure of.

Consoled by the soothing thought that this was only a phase in this world’s time, that he wouldn’t have to remain there forever, Betelgeuse settled into the patient task of waiting. Like Maia, and the others that had set off on their journeys to this Earth.

((I hope this is all right, probably one of the things I’ve taken the most time to think out and post. So excited and so nervous! There’s always the edit button if I’ve done something wrong though, so…))
Within his prison, all Alcyone could do was wait, and it was annoying. And it was frustrating. But he kept telling himself over and over that it would happen soon, and he would be free. His eyes would gaze upon life... The stars in the heavens that he could sense but could not see. It wasn't fair that his world was so far... So distant and separated from him by the cobalt barrier that was his whole self.

Again and again he assaulted his caretaker's mind with demands, though his ability to influence her was, as of yet, nothing. He'd been able to glean her name and what she was, but that was all. Once in a while, he'd be able to steal her eyes and look through them, and more than once, he'd sensed her sickness awakened by his telepathic touch. Oddly enough, Alcyone had come to care for the android; even though it was his full intent to use her, he found himself backing off. Posing suggestions instead of orders... Nothing that she could understand, of course, but she would.

Eventually.

Until then, he'd have to wait... And damn, but he hated waiting.

Why was she here again? They dared. They all dared to take the chance to visit Earth. Alcor recalled what was being said about the planet... It was dying, slowly being killed by those that lived upon it. But... how? Alcor recalled the image of the planet and clung to it; a image of a sapphire-green gem, hidden in the midst of an ocean of black sand.

And here she was, trapped in a deep green crystal... Malachite. She corrected herself, recalling the name from overhearing discussions between the older Starlings and their visits to Earth. Her attention was diverted from her thoughts as she sensed the presence of others. She knew her Earth-bondmate was in the area... but where?

And yet, even closer still were others like herself. "Hello?" She broadcasted, hesistant to the other crystals near her. "Is there anyone... here?"
Ah-ha! So there was someone out there capable of communicating with him! Was this good? It felt good. And yet, Alcyone waited for many moments before responding to the quiet plea. "I'm here," he sent, feeling the rage build up inside. Who was it he was talking to? Why couldn't he see? Why could he not escape this prison?!

It wasn't enough just to be.

Willing the crystal to crack was doing absolutely nothing for him. In fact, the more he wished for its destruction, the more confined he felt - As if the very thing he now called self was closing in on him. Was it possible that it could crush the very spark of life that allowed Alcyone to exist? He feels a flicker of fear, and then an emotion rare to him - patience.

The ground was warm... Yet she could feel it cooling quickly under the midnight moon, soon loosing its comforting warmth to the chilling night sky. Alcor tested the edges of her prison -- smooth, not roughly cut like she'd except it to be, as the stories have gone. The stories... She mulled over that thought. Would she find more stories to add to her collection? To her knowledge? Would her promised caretaker even tell her of any?

Alcor halted herself as she heard the reply. She... she wasn't alone! "Where are you?" She called out. "I'm Alcor... It's starting to get cold." Now, was that wise? To give out her name? What's said has now been said. She reminded herself, settling back and waiting for a response.
At first, Alcyone was terribly quiet. He did want to reach out to her, but he felt that the longer he remained silent, the greater her relief would be when finally he deigned to respond. The more in debt to him she would be. However, he was unable to contain his speech... To know that there were others like him... It was just too enticing, and he didn't want to run the risk of losing her all together.

Not that he needed anyone, but he was bored, and she was there.

"The cold can't hurt you," he sends, rather more gruffly than he intended. He wants to feel her, but can't. He does, however, try to keep his frustration under control this time. "I am called Alcyone."
Voices? Quiet at first, but growing in strength as he listened. So the others had made it all right too. Betelgeuse stirred again, ignoring the weariness and impatience that had begun to gnaw at his thoughts, and then honed in his telepathic abilities to link up with their conversation.

It wasn’t eavesdropping, just curiosity…
He tried to assure himself with the euphemism, after all; it wouldn’t do any advantage to his status if he were to turn them against him by accident. They'd be able to feel him too, as he could just pick up on them. He’d bide his silence for now though, best wait and take the upper hand if he could.

...Before, time had been an endless, boundless river moving at an unhurried pace, its beginning and end lost to even the stars. Now, however, her grasp of time - among other things - was limited and confined, and she perceived the passing of days and nights with interest and even impatience.

That which comprised her "world" was now so small and yet so full! Instead of a great velvety darkness broken by the brilliant dance of all her kin, she was faced with the sharp angles of a pebble, the rough surface of browned brittle pine needles, and all the bumps and ridges and small secret hollows of a damp forest floor. And this all in the one point she focused upon, with a thousand other planes and colors calling for her attention all around it! What took greater effort to adjust to was that the ever-present song of her kin was no longer a backdrop to all her thoughts. Rather, the presence of the planet she was on, with its burdened thoughts, muffled all else and prevented her from hearing the others. Her own star, even, which she had left behind, was silenced.

Arcturus was here on this same world, however. She could sense him, and others as well, muted and changed as her own presence must be by their changed forms, but comforting nonetheless. And then Maia sensed another presence. Very close, this time, and yet difficult to perceive, for the one who approached was no star-soul cut adrift, but rather one of those which she had come to discover and know. A human.

As the one approached, Maia pushed aside any observance of size, shape, color, and texture and instead concentrated on communicating. It was difficult, however. In human terms, one might have described it as an empath attempting to speak aloud with one who had only and ever known sign language. Finding an obstacle for the first time, Maia experienced first a flicker of frustration and then a moment of simple yearning toward this human, and in that moment of like to like, the bond was formed.

It was a simple thing, and yet startling and shocking. Her thought reached out, calling and wishing and yearning, and suddenly there was a backlash filled with all the abstracted daydreaming that filled the woman's mind and heart. For a second - no more - Maia knew what it was to be pregnant, to be filled to the brim and more with love and expectancy, to know in one second utmost bliss and to be transported in the next second to stark fear, the joy of brooding over a shared secret, and the mystical, msyterious sense of kinship with the moon and tides, woods and animals. And then just as suddenly as the bond had been established, it flickered and was gone. Surprised by the glut of new sensations and thoughts, Maia simply waited, her awareness drawn in close and tight, and content now to simply observe the outer rather than seek the inner.

The sneakers stopped near, as if the woman had also felt the brief bonding and paused in her bemused wanderings to glance about her and wonder what she had just sensed.

"Oh...oh! Oh my gosh, how gorgeous!" Maia was cautiously brushed at and then quickly picked up out of the debris and dirt. She was held up to one of the shafts of sunlight that braved its way into the woods and admired while the murmurs continued.

"How in the world did this get here? And what the heck happened, anyway? It looks like an asteroid landed here or something." A light laugh followed this absurdity, and then Maia was carried away to a new home within a home for a quick bath, an extended polish, and contemplation of the most attractive place to display what was probably a chunk of quartz.
Bellatrix was content to lay silent in her prison, as those around her conversed. She was shaken by the transition from space to Earth. Nobody had said it was going to be easy, but she didn't expect to be in such a weak, pathetic state upon her arrival.

The talk going on around her was odd, strange to her mind. It wasn't communication as she had known it in her previous form. She could feel the words and thoughts rather than "hear" them, or understand the sentences. She, herself, couldn't send out much more than feelings and concepts, hardly the sentences that her caretaker jabbered in.

Cautiously, she sent out a probe, feeling those who were around her.

Alcor shrank back as Alcyone's reply was shot back. Well... so much for that. She allowed herself a flicker of rage -- what right did he have to say that to her?! After all, weren't they all in this together -- lost on a planet, with no where to go?

She sighed. To each their own. She remembered, recalling the human-saying. She shook it off, reminding herself to concentrate -- if she was bothered by small things like this, how was she supposed to help out her caretaker? Or anyone? Focus! She told herself sternly before relaxing into what many could call a meditative stance. Concentrate, Alcor... You're on Earth. You're here to help the planet. You know there's someone waiting for you here. You know that you can trust them. What of the others? I bet they have someone waiting too... What's that?!

Alcor stilled her nerves, forcing herself to concentrate. Was there someone near? Yes. A human... Not for her, though. Alcor felt the temptation to reach out with I'm here! I'm here! but resisted -- she could be patient... Right? Right.

She waited, relaxing into the cooling earth. There was dirt around her, to be sure... but also the sweet, crisp clear feeling of grass. How close did they land together? She wondered suddenly, perking up as Bellatrix's probe reached out. Hesitant and wary of what happened before, Alcor reached back.

"Hello."
