..General Roleplaying Rules and Guidelines..

MOST IMPORTANT: Have fun, but not if you can not be mature, polite, and thoughtful of others while doing so! ^_^
TOS / Rules & Guidelines: Read and obey.
Breedables RP Rules & Guidelines: Read and obey.
Godmoding: Please remember that the only character whose thoughts, feelings, and actions you can control or predict in roleplay is your own. Do not "damage call" or take over another person's character in any way without their express permission.
Disrupting Roleplay: Please do not chat or bump in this thread. If any out-of-character conversation is necessary for the sake of roleplay, you may add it to the end of your post, but you must format the text to "tiny" size.
Disrupting Settings/Universe: Please do not roleplay any of your other adoptables or post anything unrealistic to the universe. There are fantasy elements to this universe, but please keep events and the strengths/abilities of your character reasonable.
Style: There are many styles of roleplay, and most are welcomed here, be it simple prose or detailed paragraphs or whatever personal style you have developed or hope to develop as you post. However, there are a few things we would like to keep out of Children of the Sun roleplay.
a.) Emoticons, both image- and text-based.
b.) Chat-style actions and emoting, such as *ROFL*.
c.) Net-speak, 1337, and consistently poor spelling, grammar, or punctuation.
d.) Over-use of font formatting. Occassional formatting for emphasis or use of colors to differentiate characters is acceptable, but please do not rainbow your posts or rely heavily upon 16-point font.
e.) More than one quote layer in a response.

..Additional Rules and Guidelines for this Thread..

This is the Child stage roleplaying thread, and should therefore consist mostly of posts by Caretakers of Child stage CoS's. The goal of this thread is to provide a place for a Child stage CoS's Caretaker to become more comfortable roleplaying their Child and to develop and evolve their CoS through roleplay. If you want your Child stage CoS to interact with a Crystal or Starling stage CoS, please visit the Main roleplaying thread.
Just like in the Crystal stage, roleplay in the Child stage will take place on Earth, and the Caretaker will be as active in the roleplay as you choose. However, when your CoS reaches the Starling stage of development, the roleplay environment will be expanded to include the entire universe, at which point the Caretaker, being human, will be left behind. Because of this, we recommend that you roleplay your CoS from his or her perspective, rather than your own.
Please also keep your CoS's individual statistics in mind and roleplay his/her abilities accordingly.

..Universe Information..

The time is present day, and the setting is our universe. The time has come for humanity to understand more about its own power and ability. Hence the arrival of the star children in the form of crystal to help re-educate mankind as to a greater cosmic purpose. Humanity must open its eyes to the greater world and life than that which encompasses the days of most from birth to death, lest the opportunity for growth pass by and all become lost.

Aerolyn 's Guide to Understanding the CoS Universe

To all those new to the Universe, I bid you a warm welcome! We are happy to see you can join us and help enrich our Universe through mutual interraction. However (as Arcturus and I have been openly discussing this issue) we are a bit concerned that those new to our strange world will feel...well...unfamiliar and alientated. So consider this your Grand Introduction!
Our Universe is one designed to be built by those participating in it. It's a very loose construct to begin with, one that must be defined and reinforced through active participation. This may seem like a daunting task, but it's really not as tough as it seems. Remember that you are as much the creator as anyone else in this Universe, and have an undeniable right to exercise the full extent of your powers. However, as there must be in a world such as this, there are limitations. Most importantly, all posts must be consistent. You may not create 'magical' solutions to your situations. All the same, you may not control someone else's actions, thoughts, or reality. You can, however, affect it by merely being a part of it. Lastly, you are not able to force your child into evolution...it is something that will happen naturally in due time.
So how does this whole growth process take place?
Take a moment to imagine yourself as your child, trapped in the form of a crystal. What would you think, experience, and feel? How would your child react to such an uncomfortable situation? How would you, as the caretaker, experience your crystal? Begin to create your internal and external worlds. Recall that caretakers are living in current time on Earth...so what is your life like? What part does your crystal play in your life? Does it have meaning? As you begin to create your environment and interract with other caretakers/crystals, you will begin to notice a change about you.
The second stage requires a bit more creativity and imagination as your child is actually a child and able to experience life from the point of view shared by the caretaker. Once again, imagine yourself as your child. How has your world changed? What is it you'd like to experience in the world? What would you like to learn? Now the caretaker become the facilitator, the one who assists in teaching the child directly. This is your opportunity to begin unlocking the secrets of our Universe and use your imagination to create limitlessly.
Remember that all thought is creation, therefore you can create anything you imagine. Those that learn the secrets of the Children of the Sun grow to be powerful beings known as Starlings. Once mastery of creation is attained, you are truly free to be anything and to experience everything.
Our world is a process, one you will become more familiar with in time ^^

A silvery sliver of the waning moon hung low in the night sky, embraced by the high towers penetrating the skyline. From this distance, he could only imagine what the greater part of him looked like, however locating his star even on a clear night was something he could not do. He didn't have the slightest idea of even where to begin his search, though every night his soul called out to him from somewhere out beyond the speckled night sky.
Am I alone here?
What had been his memory and sense of identity had lapsed into a state disorientation as nothing here made logical sense. Though his intuition had guided him through the darkness to these direct coordinates, he had little capacity through which to understand the complete nature of his mission. What cruel twist of fate would land him in the possession of a strange, cynical, aspiring artist? Arcturus shivered from the chilled night air. Earth is a strange place.
Yet, he had done as he had promised and foretold the arrival of his commrades. He had been the first to be freed of his geometric prison of citrine, establishing contact with the proper individual that would assist him in maturing. Together they had gathered the others so Arcturus wouldn't be alone...but he still wondered how much they remembered. Though the specifics of his mission remained shrouded in a fog, he could sense that nothing had gone as planned. In his heart he knew that some of his kind would be lost to the fate of the stars while others would slowly fade until forgotten.
He had come this far...there was no way he could give up now even if he tried.
"Arcturus?"
Across the green field he could hear his name being called. He closed his eyes and wished her away for a moment. Why won't you just learn to let me be? He flooding her mind with images associated with his desire for solitude, attempting to discourage her from seeking him out until he was through contemplating destiny. However, whether is was her stubborness or plain ineptitude, she had continued towards him.
"C'mon, I'm cold and want to go home." Aerolyn declared as she approached him, wrapping a blanket around his shoulders for warmth.
"I don't get cold," Arcturus mumbled as he pulled the blanket in tight. Tonight he will continue his search for answers as she sleeps and tomorrow...he paused deep in thought. Tomorrow...he'll let himself fall into the sleepy bliss that is Earth.

Warming rays of sunlight flooded the room with the subtle call of morning. Arcturus basked sleepily by the window in the sunlight, content to remain suspended between reality and dream, while Aero prepared breakfast in the small kitchen only a short distance down the hall. He smiled. Mornings were always his favorite part of the day, the only time when the world seemed to pause and reflect before the chaos of life once again took over. Everything here seemed so potent, so full of wonder.
"Archie! Breakfast!"
Arcturus stirred and opened his eyes. In Aero's tiny apartment all seemed cheerful and bright. Simple...clean. Drawing himself from his comfort position he wrapped his golden body in the top sheet from Aero's bed, pausing for a moment to reflect in the sweet scent of freshly laundered sheets. Everything on Earth seemed so strange, yet familiar in odd ways.
"Archie!"
I'm coming. It all seemed to fit in some mysterious way that he was not able to understand. Perhaps that's what Aero was for? To show him a different path? Contemplating in the stillness for one final moment, he broadcast his content thoughts into the mind of Aero. I want you to know how delighted I am to be here. Thank you for being here with me too.
Aerolyn's head was throbbing. She hadn't slept well in several nights and she was nearly certain that Arcturus was the cause. His persistant prodding of her mind always made her feel clouded and unclear in strange ways. She hadn't yet adjusted to the strange voice in her thoughts. Now he was going on and on about how happy and delighted he was to be here. Just naturally enjoying himself while she scrambled about trying to make things "work" as she thought they should. This morning was no different, and Archie's warm broadcast of love and joy met a cold welcome in Aero's heart.
She flipped the pancakes and stared deep into the black griddle.
Don't mess with me, I'm not in the mood, she snarled in return. Then there was silence...as there would be until she was about to leave for class. He'd want to tag along as always, begging for her to let him leave the cramped apartment. Aero knew she would say 'no' as she typically did, simply because he wasn't trustworthy. What would she do if he were to get into trouble? Typical. Kids were always getting into trouble, and she trusted Archie to be no different.
"Good morning Aero." Archie appeared behind Aero, wrapped in the top sheet from her bed. Aero let out a sigh of frustration and thrust a plate of pancakes into his open hand.
"Eat."

Ack...I was switching accounts and didn't realize I posted under the shop account -.-;; I am Aero...BTW
Sitting at the table, Arcturus wrapped the sheet around his head and rested his chin in the palm of his hand. It was not uncommon for him to refuse food, mainly because he was not one to find eating neccessary, but also because it made Aero worry. The way her eyes would drop and look sad as she gazed at his full plate...it gave him a powerful feeling inside that was both new and addicting.
"I want to go with you today."
Aero's eyes shot a cold stare across the breakfast table. Her reply was silent but nonetheless potent. No, you can't. You're not welcome to join me in class.
Archie cocked his head to the side and gazed into her menacing eyes. Why do I have to stay here all day, by myself? Why can't I go to the park, meet with the other crystals, or just do something different for a change?
She relaxed for a moment, allowing her focus to once again return to the food on her plate. "I just washed that sheet. Why do you insist on wearing it at the table?" She shifted the fried egg on her plate so that the yolk broke. It's not safe for you to be out on your own, and I can't afford having you running around causing trouble. Don't forget the incident last week with Mrs. Whats-her-face downstairs. I had to beg her for nearly an hour not call the police. That's way you stay here.
"It smells good," Archie replied. "And I don't cause trouble. I was just examining the blooming flowers in her garden, that's all. Besides, my brain is bored and requires stimulation. What more can I do here, locked up for the day, but cause trouble? You forget that my appearance is deceiving. I am not a child."
"I don't forget. Now eat something before I go so I won't have to worry about you starving while I'm at class."
Arcturus poked the pancakes with his fork. "I'll eat something," he muttered, "if you promise to take me out somewhere besides the park when you get back. I want to see something new today." With that he took a small bite and pushed the plate away from him. He had better things to do than concern himself with childish games.
Sighing out of frustration and partial relief, Aero parted. As she walked away from Archie and out the door she muttered silently to herself. If only she were as brave and trusting as he, then perhaps she'd be better suited as a caretaker. However, he was already bringing her to her knees, and she feared he could do much worse.
Glancing out from beneath his makeshift head wrap, Arcturus waited patiently for Aerolyn to close the door behind her. He would not be imprisoned quite so easily.
Yar, I know I'm taking up the whole front page pretty much, but any other child-stage stars are welcome to jump in at any time ^^ Archie and I just have something to play out in the sanctuary of the child-stage thread

grr. I was almost late since I was trying to finish a post, but I didn't finish it so I went to school, only to come back and find the power went out so I lost what I had typed up T.T
After leaving Mist to talk with another caretaker, Solaris wandered around the streets of the neighbourhood. Occasionally she would look through the walls to watch how other families or single humans went about their morning. Some looked half dead, others still asleep, more drinking a hot liquid, and a rare few arguing. Arguing was one thing that Solaris simply didn't understand. Sure she knew that not everyone agreed on everything, but why did humans have to yell at the other when the other can clearly hear them just fine? She mentally shrugged, then looked over at a busstop. Mist had entered this city from a bus, and Solaris wanted to try exploring further places, but for now she held her curiosity and stayed where she was at for a while. Where should I go? What is it that humans do each day... Of course she had been around Mist who was obviously a human, but Solaris also wanted to experience what other humans did. For now she decided to simply walk. A walk with no destination, only the expectation of learning something new. Solaris stretched out her senses to feel things, listen to people, and as always, keep her mind open in case of sensing any other crystals. The young star blinked in mild surprise, then reached to her link with Maia. Had Maia also taken on the form of a human? She smiled and felt happy for her fellow star, then she turned her attention back to the human world about her.

I am not a child.
Arcturus hesitated until he knew without a doubt that Aero was down the steps and to her car. He cringed at the thought of being caught again, however that only thrilled him so much more.
Feeling profoundly confident, he unraveled the sheet from his head and crept cautiously across the living room with a smirk. Aero had always left the sliding glass door to the balcony cracked for fresh air when she was gone. So it wouldn't be terribly suspicious if he crept outside onto the balcony, then somehow managed to climb down. Wrapping the sheet around his waist in order to secure it, he stepped out onto the balcony.
At worst, it was a fifteen foot drop. To his left grew the young birch tree that was far too delicate to hold his weight. Just beyond that was the iron railed fence that separated the tiny lawn that surrounded the complex from the street. Archie shuddered at the thought of leaping from the tree to the fence and being impaled on a sharp corner. No, I'll take the safer route.
Untying the sheet around his waist, he laid it out across the railing of the balcony. Carefully grabbing opposing corners, he rolled the sheet into a makeshift rope. He then threaded the sheet through an opening in the railing and folded it back onto itself to secure it. Gripping both sides together, Archie swung himself over the railing and slowly began to lower himself.
Every muscle in his upper body ached as he carefully maneuvered himself towards the ground, inching downwards as quickly as possible. His eyes began to water from the pain in his shoulders. He swung his right leg out, attempting to further secure himself by clinging to the tree. However, his leg missed and he swung wildly back and forth as his grip on the sheet began to loosen. Fearing the worst, Archie clinched his jaw and closed his eyes, preparing to fall the remaining distance.
He didn't.
Instead his hand slipped, releasing the sheet. Frantically he swung his feet out, only to realize his toes were brushing against the soft grass. Opening his eyes, he looked down to see he was in fact standing on firm ground. With a sigh of relief, he let his arms fall and pulled the sheet down with him.
That was...interesting. Archie's mind was a jumbled mass of anxiety, excitement, relief and joy. I suppose I'll never want to do that again. Or maybe not unless I know better what I'm doing. Collapsing on the grass, Archie let out a hearty laugh and let his sore arms rest.
He had done it. At last, he was free of that horrible, wretched prison!
He didn't.

Archie lay still on the soft, cool grass as he regrouped his thoughts. Above him shone the bright morning sun, making its daily journey high up into the sky. The warmth replenished his body and soul, providing him once again with the confidence to make it on his own. Although Archie hadn't thought about permanently abandoning Aerolyn in her tiny apartment, he had yet to consider coming back. I must see what world there is beyond this tiny space before I can make a decision.
Gathering himself beneath the birch tree, Arcturus took stock of his situation. Without food, water, and shelter he could survive. Yet, he would undoubtedly be alone, lacking the familiar company of Aero. He would travel alone, for the first time since his arrival on Earth. Another flash of fear and excitement ran through his body. He quivered.
Drawing the sheet about him Arcturus draped himself. No more waiting, he was tired of waiting. Walking across the grass, he crossed the driveway and onto the sidewalk. The outside world.
Busy people bustled by in cars, on bicycles, in jogging suits, even business suits, and some pushing strollers. At first he attempted to bury his head in the sheet to avoid standing out, but quickly came to realize that no one about him paid attention to gold boy wrapped in a top sheet. He smiled, laughing to himself. If only Aero could see him now.
Arcturus felt more and more confident now. With each step his self-esteem grew by leaps and bounds, feeling more powerful now that he no longer had to hide himself. Unprotected, uninhibited, finally free to be himself! Suddenly Archie felt an odd sensation overwhelming him. Aero!
Gawd I'm late for class again!
Aero, where are you? Instinctively Archie knew he shouldn't have responded, but he felt so inclined...
Keys...where are my keys? Pause. Archie? Are you there?
A wave of panic washed over Archie. His heart was racing faster than he could think. Aero... he paused. Aero, you took your keys. They're in your pocket. He looked about him for a place to hide. She must be close.
Oh, thanks. I'll be home late, okay? So stay out of trouble.
At last there was a moment of silence and Arcturus sighed with relief. Cautiously he glanced over his left shoulder, peering back at the complex to see if she might have been behind him. But he saw no red hair, no blue car, or recognizable signs of her presence. Quickly he walked down to the end of the street, turned the corner, and ducked behind an alleyway. Perhaps he'd wait just a little while longer to be safe.

Solaris was buzzing around all day from place to place. She went to nowhere in particular, nor did she go to a place she hadn't been to before. For now she simply wanted to re-experience things to see how everything was different from being in the form of her crystal. The golden being walked around from neighbourhoods, to parks, and to the edge of a store, though she didn't feel ready to go into a store alone. Her form earned no strange look from passerbys, and Solaris never gave it any thought. After a while, Solaris watched the children at the park to see how they interacted with eachother rather than just with the ones who concieved them. The children's minds weren't nearly as developed as their adults, however children seemed to be at peace, only concerned with what is happening directly around them. As Solaris pondered, she realized that in a way, all the humans were children. Most humans didn't really care further beyond their home and work area unless it was displayed across television sets or radios. Perhaps that is why they were slowly deteriorating, because so many never looked to the world as a whole. Then again, maybe not. Solaris continued as such for a good part of the day until she slowly got up and continued wandering around.

Pulling his makeshift cloak up around his face, Archie gathered the courage to peer around the corner of the alleyway one last time. It had been fifteen minutes since he had last sensed Aero's presence, and he was now nearly certain that she was completely out of range. Again, there was no sign of Aero and Archie relaxed. Chuckling to himself he continued to the opposite end of the alley which opened up into a quaint row of shops just off the beaten track.
Archie paused in surprise. People. Everywhere. There were so many people! Archie could sense their leisurely nature as they conversed softly amongst themselves. Cafes, coffee shops, book stores and tiny gardens lined the narrow one-way street. Several large women carrying colorful shopping bags laughed obnoxiously as they passed Archie, unaware of his presence.
Bright, happy, people!
Arcturus soared with delight. Why had Aero kept him hidden away for so long when paradise was only down the street? We never visited places like this! Everyone else is so rushed and impatient in those places we go to. Walking along the street, Archie felt the soothing rhythm of music flowing into the street. In this little piece of solitude, Archie felt at peace with the human race.
Bounding from one store front to another, Arcturus peered at the unique treasures hidden inside. Each had a different theme and different selection of otherwise familiar goods. In one he had seen a couch similar to Aero's, but upholstered in a lovely shade of green that looked plush and soft. If only it hadn't been secured behind glass, he might have taken it back to Aero as a gift. In another he saw many shades of cloth and clothing that nearly sparkled in the light of late morning.
Continuing down the row, he came to a busy little restaurant with a patio dining area. Though gated off, Archie could still watch the people as they consumed lunch and talked with friends. Finding a tiny space at the edge of a planter, just beyond the gate, Arcturus took a seat and leaned towards the gate so he could listen.
"He hasn't called me in two weeks." "Really?" "Yeah, what a jerk." Two women spoke quickly about someone as Archie listened intently near the gate. "Anyway," one woman continued, "he wasn't really much of a 'catch', if you know what I mean. Lori said he was loaded and good looking, neither of which were true." "What are you going to tell Lori?" "Oh I won't say a thing, I'm just going to hook her up on a blind date with that freaky guy from IT." "You wouldn't!" "Why not? 'Paul' or whatever his name was, wasn't much better. Don't you think it would be a good laugh?"
A pain ripped violently through Archie's shoulder as he was whipped around by a strong hand. Immediately he met face to face with an angry short man wearing a waiter's uniform.
"Beat it kid," he growled.
Confused, Arcturus didn't move. "Did I do something wrong?" The man refused to reply, but rather violently picked Archie up by the arm and escorted him down the street a ways. As he let go of Archie, he shot him a stern look of disapproval. For a brief moment, Arcturus cowered in fear, afraid that this volatile man might cause him harm.
However, he did nothing more but leave Arcturus standing alone and frightened on the sidewalk. What happened? Archie pondered as he gathered himself. For the life of him, he could not understand what had angered the man or caused him to react so.
Finally bringing himself to move, Archie continued down the street and away from the shopping plaza. As his strength and wits returned to him, he let out a mournful cry. Why me?
...suddenly he paused. He could sense something familiar, though it was clearly not Aero. Hello? Arcturus broadcasted a cautious greeting to the new presence.

Solaris paused in the middle of the street she was crossing when she sensed another star speaking out, ||Hello? I am Solaris. She knew she recognized this presence from the meeting tree, though she couldn't quite place it. The star's presence seemed less sure, or perhaps less confident, than when she first felt the presence at the tree. Then again, she could be misreading the star. Solaris reached out her sight and followed the weak telepathic line to try and find the other star.

Yes, someone familiar was there. But who?
Arcturus could sense it was from a nearby source, perhaps another crystal, but he was uncertain as to what to make of it. And then came the response.
Solaris? He paused briefly. Yes, he did remember her from the meeting tree. She seemed different yet the same, and he was unable to pinpoint the strange sensations the flowed through his body as he strengthened his connection. Solaris seemed to be so much stronger and more potent than he had recalled. Walking further down the way, he attempted to follow the connection as a spider walks upon its web. I am Arcturus. Are you near by? I can't seem to locate you.
Archie is a bit weak when it comes to telepathy since he lacks experience -.-;;

Solaris grinned broadly, happy to meet up with another again. He still seemed a little weak as if still in the early crystal stages, so perhaps he was in a situation similar to what Maia went through where her caretaker didn't want to believe her existance. But he was the first to arrive, so wouldn't he have found someone by now? Solaris pondered over several possibilities before replying, ||Wait there, I shall find you. She finally crossed the street that she had been standing on and followed the mix of telepathy and sight, trying to track Arcturus there with her telepathy and trying to find him specificly with her sight. The young star caught sight of him and ran around a shop and stopped short infront of him. She nodded her head once in greeting, "Hello." And like before, she instantly ran out of things to say. She really needed to get rid of that habit.
