Briseis is a quiet, curious baby. She's very vocal and expressive, even for someone so young. She can't talk yet, of course, but she seems to make a different kind of sound depending on what she wants. She loves playing with the fluffy end of Narawen's tail.

Name: Inle-roo Iridien
Gender: Female
Birthdate: 12/05/84
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 135 lbs.
Hair Color: Black streaked with purple
Eye Color: Purple

Inle is an incredibly laid-back person, bordering on lazy. She enjoys little more than sleeping in. Her tastes run towards the eccentric, as her collection of unique rubber duckies and 80's heavy metal records indicates. While she isn't a people person, she doesn't go out of her way to alienate herself; not on purpose anyway. Inle is incredibly cynical and sarcastic, but neither bitter nor angry, and she's loyal and protective of those she cares about. To her friends and family, she's always got a shoulder to cry on and an ear to rant into.

Briseis is a curious baby. She's very vocal and expressive, even for someone so young. She can't talk yet, of course, but she seems to make a different kind of sound depending on what she wants. She loves playing with the fluffy end of Narawen's tail, and seems to get along well with everyone in the house, although she's afraid of Vangreth.

Caduceus has got a rebellious streak, and tends to be somewhat manipulative. Deep down, he's got a good heart. He often helps Inle take care of the younger members of the household. Deuce, as he is nicknamed, is rarely seen without his staff and lantern.

Ephenrix is a Phuuaso Inspirati. The Phuuaso are born completely apathetic, and rarely take the initiative to do anything without being told. Such is the case with Ephenrix, although Inle is trying to teach it how to feel. It doesn't seem to care one way or the other about much of anything yet, however, though it does seem to have a sweet tooth...

Vangreth is a Windigo, a devourer of spirit and flesh. Vangreth isn't exactly a social creature, but she's amicable enough towards Inle, if no one else. She doesn't really like anyone else, especially the children, as she's been banned from eating them.

He has grown into a quiet, inquisitive child. Eki doesn't hesitate to speak his mind; it probably won't earn him many friends in the future, but he doesn't seem to care. He is just as picky about who he deigns to acknowledge, and will often ignore those he deems unworthy in hopes that they'll leave him alone.

Khepri is a Lunec. He's a playful sort, if a bit airheaded, and always ready to help. He, like Deuce, helps Inle out with many of the younger children.

Kota comes from a talisman Inle picked up on a shopping trip. He has the power to change his size (to a degree), but not his outward appearance. He loves mimicing people and things, almost to the point of annoyance. He is often seen floating aimlessly around the house.

Narawen is a wild Feli, and was Inle's first pet; it was actually Narawen who adopted her. Because of this, the two have an unbreakable bond. Narawen is intensely curious, and seems to get along well with the other members of the household. She will often leave the house for days to visit the Feli House, where many of the other Felis live.

Tama is a Cremello Ocelot Banthi, the youngest cub of his clan's Alphess and her mate. Like his mother, he's got wings, and will often soar the skies for no other reason than the sole pleasure of flight. He's fiercely loyal to his family and (most) of his clan. He is a battler in his clan, and trains nearly nonstop; although some might take him as overly serious, those who know him know that he's got quite the sense of humor.

Very little is known about Scylla, a ghost dragon, as he is rarely seen. He arrived on Halloween, circling the house with the other ghosts that night, and hasn't quite left yet.

Gideon (left) and Nil (right) are Leguanis. They showed up in boxes on Inle's doorstep one day and haven't left the house since. They're like really big, lazy dogs, who don't do much but eat, sleep, and look cute. They're handy for scaring off would-be burglars, though.

Maggie is a CrocoStyle, and one of the first. She came from a high heeled shoe. She's a sassy, spunky little croc who never fails to get into trouble. She may be small, but she doesn't let any of the bigger creatures in Inle's house take advantage of that.

Mina is a vampiric Blath. She doesn't come into the house much, preferring to stay outside and raid Inle's garden for fruits, vegetables, and small rodents. She and her sprite Seras are an inseparable pair.

Nebel is a fog Wethkin. It's only about the size of a gumball, so it's rarely seen. It wanders with Kota around the house, and you can often hear it coming before you see it because of the "myuh" sound it will often make.

Stolza is obviously still an egg. Nothing is known about her, except that one day she will hatch as a Guardian of Gaia. Inle often carries her around, not trusting the others in the house to leave the egg alone.

Tessa is more like an overgrown puppy than a gryphon. She is incredibly playful and attempts to get the other pets to join her in her games, usually to no avail. She's also got a chewing problem, as no piece of furniture is safe from her sharp beak and claws.

The Sprocket Army comes from Moorgahaine's Emporium & Forge. One of each Sprocket populates the house, and they all do different things. Some of them have bonded themselves to various members of the household, but some still remain independant.

These are things Briseis got at the temple. I think they're both some kind of good luck charm. Here's hoping they work...

Briseis got this as a gift from the lady at the temple. It looks adorable on her!

11/10/04: ...how did this baby get on my floor?!
11/10/04

So I was trick or treating, and somehow I wound up at this old temple. My costume was simple enough; I just plopped on a witch's hat and went on a mission to get as much candy as possible before the sun rose. And I got a lot, too, I'll tell ya...but that's not the point.

The point IS, I went to this temple, and the lady inside, she calls me in, and I follow her. She looks me over as I stand there, looking almost disinterestedly at my surroundings.

"You seem trustworthy enough," she finally saie before muttering under her breath, "Actually, you don't, but I suppose you'll have to do anyway."

I looked at her, dumbfounded. "Uh...trustworthy enough for what?"

An enigmatic (and sort of creepy) smile appeared on her face as she handed me a weathered, ratty-looking scroll. "Take good care of this...and don't open it yet!"

I took the scroll, looking skeptically from it, to the woman, and back again. "You could've just said you had no candy, ya know," I muttered and turned to walk away.

"Wait!" she called out, and I turned back towards her. "Take this too. It's a good luck charm...and you're going to need it." Sticking both the scroll and the charm in my ever-growing bag of goodies, I muttered a half-hearted thanks and continued on my way.

Which brings me to the present. My sweet tooth was aching today, so I took my bag of candy and sat in front of the tv where I binged on chocolate and bad horror movies.

My sugar-addled brain eventually closed over the scroll, and I instinctively drew it out, my remaining common sense telling me that hey, this wasn't candy! I drew my attention away from the fake blood and gore displayed on the tv, and looked down at the scroll in my hands. "She said don't open it yet...now's as good a time as any!" Boy, would that prove to be a mistake.

I opened the scroll carefully, not wanting it to fall apart even if it was just some elaborate halloween prank. The faded characters on the scroll looked to be in Japanese, and I rolled my eyes. "Of course I can't read it, that would make sense!" As I looked back at the scroll, however, I found the characters shifting on the paper, moving to form their English translations.

My eyes widened as I looked down at the paper in my hands in sheer disbelief. "...yeah. This is just a product of too much sugar and too little sleep. Right? Right." At that point, the lines on the page stopped moving, and for some reason, I felt compelled to read them.

It was a tale of the Japanese goddess Amaterasu. I found myself enthralled by it, not noticing the glow surrounding the scroll that only got brighter as I progressed through the story. I noticed it, however, as I read that last line; it was blinding at that point, and there was no way I could've ignored it. The scroll flashed, then, and once the white spots stopped dancing before my eyes, I noticed it was gone.

In its place was a baby, swaddled in a vivid purple blanket. It was pale-skinned, and a shock of bright purple hair adorned its head. As I studied it closer, I noticed that it bore a lavender marking on one side of its face, and...was that a wing?!

It stared at me in a confused manner, as if it too was curious as to how it got here. I reached out to poke it, and it squirmed and gurgled.

"...I think I need to go back to that temple."
11/15/04

Today, Briseis and I went to the temple where I got her scroll. It was decorated, I guess there was some sort of celebration going on there? I'm not sure what it was, I wasn't able to stay very long.

Happenstance
Inle cautiously approached the old temple she had visited on Halloween. Briseis was cradled against her shoulder, sleeping peacefully. As Inle glanced around the temple's exterior, she noticed that it was decorated, as if for some kind of festival. Moving up the temple's steps, she pushed the door open, eyes searching for the woman who had given her the scroll on that fateful night.

Shouko roamed the temples exterior lighting the candles within the paper lanterns smilling broadly.

She sighed, not seeing who she was looking for. She noticed the altar on the far wall and went to study it for a moment before taking the lighter from her pocket and lighting a stick of incense, just to be respectful. Turning, she exited the temple, only to find the woman outside. "Hey!" she called out.

Shouko looked around hearing someone call out from someplace in the temple, she noticed Inle-roo, but couldn't recognize her at first glance.

Inle stepped closer, into a pool of light given off by one of the many paper lanterns. "Ya know," she started, "when someone says trick-or-treat, they don't expect their potential trick to be in the form of a baby."

" I beg your pardon? " The priestess smiled politely, not sure by what she may have ment.

She gestured at the slumbering Briseis, who was currently drooling on her shoulder. "You gave me a scroll when I passed by here on Halloween, trick-or-treating. So I open the scroll, right? And then I read it, and it glows and disappears and next thing I know, there's a baby on my living room floor! What's up with that?" Her mind was still obviously possessed by the sugar demon.

The priestess smiled.

" That was no treat my dear. " The smiles on her face turned into a coy smirk. " That was the treat. You've been blessed. I've never met anyone who could so openly insult what they've been blsessed with..."

Inle's eyes widened in shock. "Blessed? I didn't even know who Amaterasu was until I opened that damned scroll, and I sure as hell didn't ask to be blessed with a kid!"

" You don't get to choose. " Shouko stated. " You're blessed with this child because you were chose above all others to take care of her. That's your responsibility, wether you may like it or not."

The golden eyed girl looked at Inle-roo and watched, her eyes saddened.

Briseis murmured nonsensically in her sleep, squirming within Inle's grasp. Inle unconsciously gripped the infant a little tighter, lest she fall. She sighed, resigned to her fate. "Well...what am I supposed to do with her, anyway? I've never taken care of a kid before."

" Neither has anyone else here. " She smiled looking over at the golden eyed girl.

A tiny fist clutched the sodden shoulder of Inle's shirt. Almost unconsciously, she turned her head to place a gentle kiss to the purple mop adorning the baby's head. She sighed once more. "Ah, well...I'll figure it out eventually. How did she come from a scroll, though? And what's up with the whole Amaterasu thing? Does that mean my kid's gonna grow up to be some kind of goddess, or something?"

Shouko smiled, reaching into her sleeve and pulling out a small gold, and amythest hiarclip, adorned with amythest jewels onto it.

" I don't have any of the answers you seek." She murmured. " I'm only human after all. That is something you need ot discover for yourself."

Inle hesitantly took the trinket, blinking in surprise. The clip was beautiful, and she studied it for a moment before smiling warmly, though still somewhat warily, at the woman. "Thank you," she murmured. "I...think I'll do just that. In the meantime, is it alright if I hang around for awhile? I'd like to know more about this goddess."

" You're welcomed here as long as you like. " Shouko smiled once more. " Talk to the spirits..." She murmured. " They are listening."

Shouko walked off, continueing to light the rest of the paper lanterns.

Yeah. Safe to say I felt kinda shitty after I learned I had been blessed. Before I left, I was able to learn a little more about this Amaterasu. She sounds pretty cool, I guess. Cool enough that I don't mind having her "blessing" to raise. Time will tell though, I suppose.

And what was up with the kid behind the priestess? Those eyes just...I dunno. Kinda freaked me out, but in a good way.
