VISIT THE GUILD!

The wind teases the barren, snow-covered wasteland, picking up the crystal sediment that was left by the now passed clouds and teasing it around in sparkling swirls. The surface is untainted; the tension is perfectly taut. The silence under the moon and wind is astounding. You may think you are alone, but you are not. The sounds of paws soon can be heard, and off in the distance a sled pulls through the frosting, dogs pulling with trained expertise in front of it. Who are they? They are like you, the ones who look as dogs but feel with the wolf. The wind howls at your back, urging you toward the sled, but will you go?

Welcome to Mush! A realistic shop for sled dogs. Does the intro captivate you? Seize your attention? Then feel free to use the below navigation to educate yourself better on our delicate subject. Who knows; maybe you'll join us.

o2.17.o8::
Did a lot of revising with the front page and general rules today. From now on if you want to get your pet grown into a stray, street, or house dog then there are NO requirements! Just make a post in the guild otherwise you'll have to pay a recoloring fee since it's an adult. Also, there will no longer be m/m or f/f breedings. Sorry! We thought this was just too big of a loophole. So from now on homosexual breedings can only happen via commission or bribe. Also finished the familiar breeding info and changed familiar prices. We still need the last two stages, but there's no rush on those. We alse decided that teams can now have non team dogs join their ranks as 'backups'. There is no lineart/cert changes (unless it's a teen to adult) but they are allowed to post in the guild/train with the dogs via rp, etc. They cannot race however. This is one way we hope to get teams more active so we can focus on....racing! ALL teams in existance now have until the last day of March to show some activity in their subforum or they will be disbanded. No exceptions!

12.31.07::
Now that SSes are all done, the month of January will be a time to do some general shop upkeep and knock out some backlog. What we need to work on is owed growths, general front page cleanup/guild cleanup, finish the plushie post/previews, create the baby rare fam information along with the last two stages, focus on teams (and figure out how to get those more active), certing SSes (get those names in if you haven't already done so!), recoloring old familiars onto new lines (get those in too!) and we need some downtime ourselves. There *may* be an event for this month, for the most part we're playing catchup : }

11.o4.o7::
The half wolf boy, k9, and medic lines are all in! That means the LAST part of dog lines are finished. HURRAY!! Please look at the updated growth chart for pose info, or just stalk the mule's former posts if you've missed those postings in the thread. Now that that's out of the way Les and I are going to concentrate on growths, team requests, the other familiar lines, k9/medic quests, and I want to try to do breedings as well. Ideally I'd like all this to happen by Christmas, since we'll have SSes to think about too. So yes! we'll be busy, busy so hang tight.

10.14.07::
All of the common familiars have been redone! If you want to have your old familiar recolored or a retired familiar redone into a different animal, please post in the growing thread! The wolf will stay the same, and the new lapdog lines are in! The next two familiars will be released in the next month or so as a surprise so be on the lookout! And don't forget that commissions/customs open today and the Monster Mash event is still going on~!!

o9.29.o7::
The inker hiring thread is now up! To apply please go HERE UPDATE: Les has freed up some of her schedule and is able to do the inking for the familars. So be on the lookout for lots of new and exciting things!

o9.28.07::
We've got a couple announcements to make! First off, congrats to all the participants and winners of our events. Next on the agenda for Mush is a revamp on the familiar system! As some of you have noticed, we have a lot of familiars. That being said, we are downsizing and giving the chosen familiars (bear, rat, cat, fox, owl, and hare) all new lines!
However, because we are very very busy, we will be looking for an inker to match the Mush! inking style (details such as payment, requirement, etc. will be announced in an application format later). The familiars we are removing from the list will be "retired". You can still rp them, but no more will go out. The rest of the lineart is on it's way, but slowly because Otsune is very busy with college.
All owed growths will be out this week and we'll be opening custom and commission slots next weekend! There will be 2 custom slots offered by Lesotho and unlimited commissions by Filly! We will allow you to order familiars and will do them on the new lines as soon as they are ready! 8D

So, you came to this board on a whim and read the intro at the top. You liked what you saw, did you? But, I am sure you are confused as to what this board is really all about. I'll explain.

This board is the official shop thread for Mush!. What is Mush! you ask? Mush! is a shop that sells 'sled dog' pups (similar to huskies). You purchase them as pups and role-play the pup as it grows up and into a sled dog harness. Eventually, its skills determine its position in its very own sled dog team!

This is a realistic dog role-play as well. Role-playing your dog will allow it to grow and have relationships with those around him/her. You will not be required to play your dog, but it will miss out as it grows older if it has not been introduced properly and maintained in society. Without being in the society, your dog cannot attain a rank in a sled dog team (it will not grow into the final stage). Please keep this in mind.

The main focus of Mush! is on the dogs. They can be owned, but humans aren't supposed to be integral characters in the role-play. Your dog can have some sort of owner, and that owner can even be yourself as long as you have a reasonable name. Human owners shouldn't have paragraphs of role-play that focuses on them though. The only human that will need any kind of character development for role-play purposes is a team's musher. The musher will be created by the members of the team and will be used throughout all team posts. (S)he will be a community character that anyone on the team will be able to use.

Want to know more of the specifics? Read on into the next round of info!

General thread

o1. Please keep the feeling of this thread a positive one. I will not tolerate any feuds that are taken either from real life into the thread or from the role-play into the thread itself. Any of that nonsense and you'll be outta here!
o2. OOC and IC are two different things. If you can't keep relationships separate between the two for the better of all, you'll be kicked out and stripped of your character.
o3. If there is an event going on, do not PM us about wanting to get the pup at a discount price. No matter how sad your tale of woe, no money/no win = no pup.
o4. Do not steal art. I work very hard on the whole process and it is demoralizing to see it plastered somewhere else with another name carelessly scrawled on it. Also, I will get you into huge amounts of trouble WHEN I catch you (notice: not IF but WHEN).
o5. On that note also DO NOT steal specific colorings I do for Mush!. I understand if it's a general theme like an animal or cosplay, HOWEVER I work VERY hard with coming up with unique patterns to go with specific color combinations, so don't use it just because you can't think of something yourself. The only way to get around this rule is because you had the pet owner's permission (I understand that some people like the same 'look' for multiple pets).

Guild

o1. Use the guild for documenting/one on one purposes only. This means one on one role plays, journals, and team journals. Don't post any advertisements or anything not relating to Mush!.

Flatsale

o1. Even though these pets are not role-play required, at every flat sale there will be a posted prompt that you MUST reply to in order to be eligible. This is so even if you don't role-play the pup now, if you decide to later I already know that you are competent and deserving of a dog.
o2. In a flat sale thread, there will be an role-play prompt posted. You will be allowed 20 minutes to reply to it and may post your response to the prompt within that allotted amount of time.
o3. After the specified amount of time, a STOP post will be posted. Those submitted on the same minute or before the stop post will be accepted. Any late entries will be ignored unless I decide to be lenient.
o4. Each pup, if won, will cost 5k. If you do not have the funds to pay for it, and cannot have the money in 24 hours, a new winner will be chosen. Please consider this before you start posting.
o5. All posts must contain the phrase "walking the beat". Posts that do not contain this phrase (which can be anywhere in the post as long as it is clearly marked), will be disregarded.
o6. If you forget this phrase in your post and still have time, do not edit the post. Simply post again stating you forgot it and your post will again be valid.

Roleplay

o1. NO god-moding of ANY sort will be tolerated.
o2. Your dog cannot die from any sort of spar unless you specify that it has sustained mortal wounds and will bleed to death. In other words, they're basically immune to death.
o3. This thread is also the main-grounds for the role-play. If someone is rping, please bracket your text somehow (ex. (()), {{}}, || ||, etc.) so they know you aren't rudely interrupting. Role-playing can also take place in a one on one thread or team thread in the guild.
o4. Remember there is a role-play guide and jargon listed below. Please use these references to make your post a nice, long, and interesting one. I don't really like one-liners. As a matter of fact, one-line rpers are screened out before they are allowed to have a pup, so I think you all should obey this rule just fine.

Auctions

o1. Don't plan your bids in the auction thread. It discourages others!
o2. Bids will only be allowed within the time frame. Once the time is up, the highest bidder wins. If they cannot pay, it goes to the next highest bidder and so forth.
o3. There will be a list of approved values for items if you so choose to add them to your bid. Just make sure you post the lowest buy price (in the marketplace) of the item when you place your bid. Only items (of any sort) above the 3k mark will be accepted. Donation, rares, and event items are preferred.

Raffles

o1. Tickets will be sold for a limited amount of time, so get 'em while they're hot!
o2. At the end of the time, a number will be selected from the list of ticket holders via the randomizer. If it's your number, you win.
o3. Pay for the tickets (100 g each in most cases) right when you order them! I don't want to post your name all over for owing us money. I'm sure you wouldn't like that either, eh? Good.

The Sled

Dogs are harnessed to the sled in a certain order to assure the best and most efficient pulling/leading combination. In Mush!, the dogs are harnessed as follows:

---------Lead - Lead
---------Point - Point
---------Swing - Swing
---------R group (regular team dogs)
---------Wheel - Wheel

In order for the team to compete in races, the sled must be pulled by no less than three dogs but no more than ten. This can be any combination of the above formation. Some sleds are pulled by the full set of two of each type, while others are constructed of only one lead or more team dogs and less specified ranking dogs. In order to form any sort of 'team' or group of dogs capable of assigning themselves ranks, you must have AT LEAST three dogs. You cannot simply appoint yourself a lead and pull a sled by yourself. This is not logical. The other most common formation of the team is as follows:

---------Lead
---------Point - Point
---------Wheel - Wheel

Each dog, once full grown, will receive a harness. Whether he/she uses it or not is up to the owner. If they do not join a team, this is their final stage. They are welcome to join a team at any point if they are invited. The harnesses are of the standard sort; built well so as not to hurt the dogs, even after extended periods of use. They are not always tethered to the sled, so they can roam most of the time.

The R-group (otherwise unspecified team dogs) is a group of dogs that is not necessary for the team to perform. However, if you want them there, they'll be there. They're sort of there to learn the ropes; oftentimes rookies that weren't yet fit for other positions. After running as a part of the R-group, they may be assigned a more specified part.

Facing the Cold

Don't forget the dogs also wear booties to keep the snow from their toes on occasion. If they are going for the longer hauls in a team, make sure you remember to protect their feet in your posts! We wouldn't want bleeding, frost-bitten toes, now would we? They are not mandatory, however. Some dogs have very tough feet; so it is really the rpers choice.

Formulating a Team

So, your dog has finally grown to an adult. It's got it's shiny little harness and is ready to work! What now, you might ask? It's simple! Now, your dog uses the relationships it formed as it was growing up to group together with other mature dogs and compile a team! Once the group is together, the ranks will be appointed among them based on their individual skills, forming an elite group of pulling and navigating power.

So you've done that, have you? What next? Once the team has been formulated, the confirmation will be sent to TehMush! via a nice little PM stating the name of your team, the number of dogs, their names and their new ranks. The artist responsible for the dogs (one of the two of us) will then grow your dog into it's appropriate rank and re-cert so it's all official.

But now that you've done that you're done right? Nope. This is where the guild comes in. You and your new team will come together, either forming a dummy account or using your own, pay the fees, and get a team subforum. The title will be the name of the team, and inside you can stash pictures, mini-bios, stories, relationships between team members, ranks, and current sled formulation maps (such as the one shown a few posts below) to demonstrate how your team works together. The whole group can post inside.

The Musher

Now that you're an official team, you need a musher. This is where the really fun part comes in for the group. OOCly, the owners will come together and plan out the musher. Is it a boy or girl? Tall? Dark eyes? Hair? You will formulate a physical and psychological analysis of him/her and set that somewhere in your team thread. This is a reference to any member of the team who may need to use the musher in one of their posts. We wouldn't want you having mushers all over the place now, would we? Better to share the one than create many and create havoc and chaos around here.

Jargon

Wanna be hip? Use some cool words in your posts so you really sound like you know your stuff? Here's a little list of words you might wanna know/use in your posts!

Basket: The main body of a sled; where passengers or cargo/gear can be carried.
Booties: Slippers for dogs, worn while working under certain conditions to prevent ice forming between their toes. Made of a wide range of fabrics, including fleece and Gore-tex.
Brushbow: The curved piece out in front of the main body of a sled, designed to stop brush from damaging the sled.
Dog bag: A fabric bag carried on a race sled, used to put a sick or injured dog into in order to carry him to a place where he can be cared for.
Driving bow/handle bow: The handle the musher holds onto.
Easy!: The command to slow the dogs down.
Gangline: The main line that the dogs and sled are attached.
Gee: The command to turn the dogs right.
Haw: The command to turn the dogs left.
Hike!: The command to get the team moving (more common than mush).
Mush!: A less common command to get the team moving.
Neckline: A short line (10-12 inches) attached to the harness and gangline, that keeps the dog in line.
On by!: The command to go by another team or other distraction.
Pedaling: Pushing the sled along with one foot while the other is still on the sled.
Rigging: All the gear that keeps the dog attached to the sled.
Safety line: An extra line from the gangline to the sled, in case the main fitting breaks.
Snow hook: A large metal hook that can be driven into firm snow to anchor a team for a short period of time without tying them.
Snub line: A rope attached to the back of the sled, which can be tied to a tree to hold the team when the snow is not firm enough to use a snow hook.
Stakeout: A main chain with separate short chains to attach several dogs to. May be strung between the front and back bumpers of a truck, or between two trees.
Stanchions: Upright pieces that attach runners to the sled.
    Tack: Another word for harnesses.
Tuglines: The main line that connects the dog's harness to the gangline - the line the dog tugs on.
Whoa: The command to stop the team

Rankings among the sled dogs and significance of the different positions will be explained in the rp guide! Scroll on!

S e t t i n g

The role play takes place in a barren artic wasteland. It is very similar to Alaska in conditions; usually covered in snow, save spring and summer (keep reading for more on this), which are short. There are a few forests in the North/Northwest region. Some dense and thick while others are thin and sparse. Scattered among the woods you can find abandoned eskimo villages and even further north (not shown on the map) you might find an Eskimo camp that is still florishing, though it is rare for dogs or humans alike to travel this far. For the most part, the land is made up of wide-open fields of snow and ice that are thick and cold.

The dogs are not always exposed to the harsh wind and cold, however. Souna is the town in this area where the majority of the role-play will take place. Because the town is in a valley, the elements are slightly less harsh allowing the population to flourish. The people here have harnessed an energy source from a more northern river/waterfall that they have claimed themselves. Because of this, there is electricity, which means refrigerators, electric lamps, heating in houses, and other appliances. Buildings range from house size to a larger business like building. Many alleyways are created because of the many, and usually crowded structures. There are no vehicles here, save for the dog sled teams, and so the roads are unpaved but remain snowy. There is one main, larger road through the town. Call it the 'main street', if you will.

There are lots of decks and raised areas that are easy to slip under; including where basements would be put if the ground weren't frozen solid. These are good places for dogs to sleep at night; especially if they can find a warm spot or an old blanket to curl up on.

There is also a shipyard on the lake (which further south connects to the ocean) that is frozen over most of the time. You can sometimes find an abandoned vessel that may hold your interest if you wish to sleep there for the night. It is not advised, however, because the ropes that hold the ships down can break in the artic weather, and if the ice is not thick enough, you may sail away.

Even further South/southwest is the snobby and wealthy town of Mira coupled with an even larger shipyard and loading/unloading docking area on the front towards the ocean. This place is hardly ever gone to as the rules and regulations of this city are high and not inclined towards dogs. Most of the dogs that live in this area are well pampered house dogs and petty little lap dogs. Strays and street dogs should especially stir clear of this place as nightly patrols are done to round up any wondering vagrants.

During Spring and Summer the weather is *not* exactly like Alaska's, unlike the winter setting is for the shop. There is a breakup during Spring where the ice is melting and there is muddy snow everywhere and flooding may occur, but instead of an Alaskan type summer this enviroment has a larger 'breakup', where most, but not all, of the snow has melted and the forest remains dry and brittle, causing a lot of forest fires. During Spring and Summer we (meaning the shop owners) will announce when it can ICly be spring/summer for Souna. And this almost always begins with our big spring event and ends with our big end of summer event. So this means the setting only has about four months of spring/summer altogether. Please only rp this type of setting during this window of time.

Remember there are NO naturally occurring snakes or reptiles in Souna, though there are a few types of bugs. There wouldn't be worms or butterfiles for instance, but there are moths and mosquitoes. Nor is there a lot of grass patches. Though it's more common in the woods. Remember if you aren't sure what would ICly be in the setting then feel free to fling the mule a PM. We want you to be aware of your surroundings when you rp.

B e h a v i o r

A dog acts... like a dog. This is a realistic role play, which means that there are no strange things like wings and magical powers. If they had those, they'd be drawn in. However, they are not so please follow this policy. A dog would act like a dog. It would not get up and walk around on two legs, wear clothes, or get drunk. On rare occasions, dogs can wear things like bandanas or scarves (i.e. Jenna from Balto) but that's about it. The only thing unrealistic about them is that they can talk.

You can develop any sort of accent you like for your dog. It can be trashy and rough or smooth and elegant. Whatever you decide suits him/her. Just keep language to a minimum, even if it is in their nature. Don't take advantage of the fact that I won't be uptight about cursing and use a bad word every other sentence. Behave yourself, these pets are expensive so you really shouldn't be misusing them after paying for them. Wouldn't want them taken away.

One common mistake that would be made while rping a sled dog is to make him/her sweat after working. Dogs do not have the ability to sweat. This is why they pant. Believe it or not, they sweat through their tongues on most occasions. This is a useful bit of information to keep in mind as your dog ages and starts to race/train.

It helps to keep in mind that dogs rely in their senses. Sight is useful, yes, but other senses are more heightened than that. For example, dogs have excellent hearing. Their range is far larger than that of a humans. You must remember that if a small sound is made, it is customary to roll an ear in that direction. Also, scent is extremely acute in dogs. They can scent things up to a mile off if the wind is right, so remember when the wind blows they'd be scenting it for any danger, food, bad weather, etc. They can sense things such as storms, so they can be moody before a storm hits. The clouds coming or thunderheads would make them irritated.

T e a m R a n k s

    Lead
The lead is the sort of 'alpha' of the group. The ranks are not strictly enforced in a team, but the lead is the brains of the outfit. If he/she/they want to pull rank, they will. And look out. The lead is the one who leads the team, placed at the front of the sled. They are generally very intelligent as well as fast and not as strong as per say the wheel dogs.

    Point
The point dogs are the ones who run behind the lead dogs. They have to be able to keep up as well as keep the dogs behind them from bunching up or falling behind. They are responsible for keeping the speed and course the lead sets as well as doing a larger part of the pulling.

    Swing
Swing dogs are basically a second row of point dogs. These dogs are also there to keep the sled moving at a regular pace and keep the dogs behind them from bunching up on the lead. They are responsible for keeping the dogs behind them in line as well as to keep them moving.

    T-Dogs
Also referred to as the 'r-group', these dogs are simply there with no other specific rank to give the sled extra power and speed. They are often added in to get them used to different positions until they are finally ready to accept one of the more advanced positions. Being the rookies this part is usually made up of inexperienced dogs. There can be up to two pairs on the sled, but if too many dogs are on the sled the team can become sluggish, confused, and just one big mess.

    Wheels
Normally the bulkiest dogs on the team, the wheel dogs are positioned directly in front of the sled. They are the strongest of the team, and when the command is given they are the ones who really get the sled started. Their main priority is to help the sled turn and not slide uncontrollably.

S p e c i a l S t a g e s

    House Dogs
Prim and proper, house dogs live for one thing and one thing only...play, and look good while doing it. Their coats are kept groomed by their owner's and their food/water bowls are always kept filled. They certainly enjoy a life of luxury and to them a collar is like a badge of honor.

    Street Dogs
Something to be feared, street dogs are the wild at heart. They live solely based off the primoridial desires of the here, and now. It isn't uncommon for these canine miscreants to pick fights or bully others around.

    Strays
Weak and malnourished strays usually evade human and canine contact alike. These dogs are rarely seen during the day, but perhaps you will be able to catch a glimpse of them stealing food at night.

R a r e s

    Half Wolves
One part wolf and one part dog, and sometimes the lineage can be found in a grandmother or grandfather. These creatures are torn between two worlds. Almost always they will choose to live life like a dog, but all have some wolf characteristics. Their fur is longer and more course and they have more instincts then their canine counterparts. It is rare that any musher would let them join a sled team.

    Medics
These large dogs are trained to physically rescue humans and animals from disasters. Be it an avalanche, flooding, falling off of boats, etc. Medics have been conditioned to survive in harsh elements and are always seen carrying around a bag containing medicines and soothing balms. Because of this and their inanate knowledge of health these dogs can sometimes be seen as 'healers' though their abilities aren't magical. Unlike other dogs they also have the ability to understand human speech. As well as this they are very in tune to their surroundings so they can predict the weather and coming ice storms based on their heightened awareness of the world around them. Medics have an easy going temperament and remain calm and collected. More often then not they act as a mediator to other dogs.

    K9s
In both Mira and Souna there are the elite K9 unit. These dogs are specifically trained to help local law enforcement with tracking, keeping public order, sniffing out illicit substances, and locating cadavers. They have a keen sense of smell and sight that may even rival a medic's. Not only can these dogs understand human speech but they can also understand all known languages. Some even understand human writing as well, but only in short limited words and phrases. They also have the skill of talking with different animals and can hold a higher connection with familars because of the authority they carry. It would not be wise to get into a fight with one of these dogs either, as they have BOTH natural instinct and fight training. K9s are also prone to using manipulation to get with they want as well.

So your Mush! is mature and ready to be a mama or papa? Here's all the information you need to know! Mush! dogs, like domestic dogs, can breed any time of the year, even in the cold environment they live in. Once the mother conceives them, the puppies will by colored by the designated colorist and posted in the thread a few days later (the colors, genders, and amounts will be a surprise!), but the rper may delay the birth IC if they desire. Usually the puppies will look like mother, father, or a mix of both, but sometimes recessive genes rear their heads and pop up. Your dogs ranks will determine a mortality rating for the pups.

Mush dogs will have 2 - 6 puppies
The breeding fee (to be split between the two owners) is

16,ooo g!

B a s i c s

Breeding raffles will happen whenever we have time to do them. Generally, this means there will be a raffle once every two to four months. During the latent period, there will sometimes be commissions, bribes, or pet trades open. These are the only alternatives to the traditional breeding slot winnings. For pet trades and bribes, you MUST meet the same requirements (listed below) though this is also dependent on individual artists prefrences. However, for commissions there are NO requirements. Please do not PM us about a bribe/pet trade/commission unless there is something that says we are currently taking them (this is generally found on the individual owner's post).

R e q u i r e m e n t s

o1. The parents-to-be MUST both be adults, but they can be any rank, and of any gender. (F/M ONLY)
o2. Two dogs belonging to the same owner MAY NOT be bred together. No exceptions!
o3. There will be no breeding with NPCs (Non-player characters). It is too complicated and creates too many loop-holes for rp requirements.
o4. If you won a raffle, you may not participate in the next raffle. This also applies to those who obtain a breeding in a dormant period by commissions/pet trade/bribe. Remember, Mush! dogs can only breed 3 times in their lives.
o5. The couple must have at least three rps between the two of them on record. Both dogs can use the same three rp logs. There MUST be enough in the rp to count as a full rp (in content and length). At least two of these rps must be finished, though one may still be on-going. Generally speaking posts must be a paragraph or two and there must be 15 posts for the rp to count.

P r o c e s s

Each time a breeding raffle is opened, there will be a thread announcement along with a link to the raffle thread. The number of couples being picked will be expressed at that time. You will then be allowed to try for a slot (by providing the couples and info: rps, ranks, etc). There is no entry fee to enter your dog, but you may only enter your dog ONCE. However, someone else may have another one of your dogs in their chosen pairing.

At the end of the breeding raffle, all the listed couples will be numbered and we will use Gaia's randomizer to see which couples will get slots. Please do not try to dictate to the colorists what your dogs should look like, how many they should get, etc. You have no power over genetics, and you have no influence on us, either.

When dogs are rolled for breeding the puppies will be posted in the thread a few days after conception. If you are a winner, send a PM to the mule so we know which pup belongs to who and what each will be named for certing and record purposes.

M o r t a l i t y R a t e s

Depending on the rank of the two parents, there is a greater chance of pup death or still births. The lifestyle of the parents dictates their health and overall ability to take care of young. Thus, when picking mates, please keep these percentages in mind. A 10% mortality rate would translate to "one out of every ten pups will die".

Medic/K9 dogs: 0% Mortality (no puppies will die)
Team dogs: 0% Mortality (no puppies will die)
House dogs: 0% Mortality (no puppies will die)
Adult dogs: 10% Mortality (one out of ten puppies will die)
Half/Quarter Wolf Dogs: 10% Mortality (one out of ten puppies will die; 1/2 wolf trait chance for HWs, 1/4 for QWs.)
Street dogs: 20% Mortality (two out of ten puppies will die)
Stray dogs: 30% Mortality (three out of ten puppies will die)

A f t e r m a t h

Though ICly, the parents get to keep all their babies, the owners may only keep two pups each. The rest must be given away. These can be given away either by you (gifting them to friends), or by a free event. These can be either a flatsale, rp contest, or raffle. You may never use a Mush! pup as collateral in a pet trade or sell it for money. If we catch you doing this, you will be removed from the shop. Also, please remember that Mush! are not allowed to be co-owned under any circumstances.

Have you always wanted your own custom Mush? Well then, a custom is for you! It can be ANY color, ANY style, ANYTHING. Well, almost, I don't want these dogs to be anything but dogs so things such as wings are a no no. There is no requirement, such as an rp prompt, to acquire a dog. Your mush can be of any age or gender, but must be of a common rank. Under no circumstances will we color a team dog for you, as those are only privileges for owners who role-play their dogs. You may buy customs for other people, but please make sure you CLEARLY specify that in your PM to me. Also, I will never, ever do custom breedings. You may, however buy a custom that is the sibling/has a relation to a dog not born through breeding.

Because I feel that many of the Price guides are incorrect I now take the LOWEST BUY PRICE in the marketplace. How do you find this? What's the shop for...?

This shop is for the sale of mush dogs. To learn more make sure you read all info!

So... what's a sled dog? And where does this take place?

A sled dog is a working dog that pulls sleds. The setting can be found in the 'roleplay guide' post.

Okay so... how much does it cost to get my hands on one of these critters?

The flatsale price for a pup is 5k. There will be other special offers (raffles, auctions, etc) that will have other specified amounts. You can only win a flatsale through a sample rp post as a response to the prompt. More info is listed in the 'Rules' section.

Liek OMG can I have 1???!!!!!11!1!1!!!!!twelvestfu!

No, you may not have one. We do not give them away. This is a SHOP so we SELL them. Don't ever ask for one for free, no matter how little money you have. Beggars cannot be choosers, so stop choosing to beg for a pet!

Okay so... now that I have one are these things RP-mandatory?

I'm glad you asked. No, they are not rp-mandatory. However, if you do not rp your dog, it will grow at a very slow rate and once it reaches its adult stage it cannot advance into any specialized team rank. It must join a team and be active to attain one of these.

Will you do an art/pet trade or can I bribe you?

That all depends on the colorist. Please go down to the individual owner's post and it should give the specifics there. Usually it's more on a 'don't call us, we'll call you' basis, though.

Can I be a colorist or work for the shop 8] ?

We are not hiring colorists at this time, thank you. We also have wonderful shop helpers so we aren't looking for anyone else for that either.

Does my dog have to have an owner to be on a team?

Nope! Your dog can remain a stray and have the musher use a whistle, or some other form, to call the dogs together. You dog's owner can or cannot be the musher of the team.

Can I have my dog grow into a special stage rank?

Yes, all teens can grow into the special rank of your choosing (street/stray/house). You simply must post a note in the growth thread in the guild. If you do not this your pet will grow into the default adult rank and you'd need a rank change fee to get it into new art.

What about teams, I wanna know about them!

Because there is so much information involved with teams, I'm just going to point you to that info. Please read the info on the front of this thread and over at the guild.

Can my dog have supernatural powers, be part of the undead, be a ghost, etc, etc, etc ??

NO!! This is a REALISTIC dog setting. Even though your dog may be colored to look like a zombie, ghost, fairy, other animal, WHATEVER, you STILL must rp the dog as being...just a dog. There is to be no supernatural undertones. I know we do a lot of themed dogs, but keep in mind the dog's fur (and it is just fur not scales or feathers or anything) is just colored to look that way.

Can dogs have the same names as each other?

No, that makes it harder on us. Though mistakes do happen please look at the parent list BEFORE you choose a name for your dog. Use ctrl+F and type in your chosen name. If no match is found, congrats! That name is available!

Can mush dogs be half wolf?

ONLY if you obtained them via custom, commission, or event. No exceptions! Remember these are DOGS not wolves! Not half-wolves! If you are caught giving your dog wolf lineage when it's not in that particular LA you will be warned, if the offense is repeated you will be greylisted, then eventually blacklisted.

Can my dog wear clothes?

It depends. Basically hats / scarfs / bows / sashes / collars / 'some' types of belts, or belt related items / jewlery / and 'some' types of capes are okay. Things that AREN'T allowed are shoes / jackets / shirts / pants / dresses / skirts / etc. But if you are unsure then just ask!

If you've always wondered what other sort of animals roam around Souna then...wonder no more! Familiars are basically the other creatures that exist along with the dogs. These creatures CAN be owned and rp'd (there is no communication barrier between dog and familiar unless you wish). However, only rare familiars are allowed to breed. They are usually available in special events and on the rare occasion that they are flatsold (commons only) they will be 3k.

Common Familiars

Bears: A powerful mammal that most dogs would easily avoid, and with good reason too. These animals don't take kindly to tresspassers, especially when its too close to their den. Most bears can be seen hunting salmon when the rivers aren't too icy.
Cats: Oy, a dog's most primitive enemy. These fiesty felines have sharp claws that could seriously wound a canine's snout. Cats can live in barns to prevent rat infestation, live homeless in the streets, or they might live life as merely a pampered pet.
Fox: With sharp features and brush-like tail, these canines are known for their cunning nature and ability to connive anyway possible to survive. Most of these live in the wooded area, but can sometimes be seen snooping around the town for a wayward bite to eat.
Hares: Bet ya can't catch one! These fast moving mammals are plentiful in Souna and are extremely droolworthy to dogs, the only problem is their speed! Some are raised to be used in racing competitions while most are found in the wild.
Owls: You will hear the hoots of these nocturnal and solitary creatures rather then see them. Dealing with them is on a 'don't mess with me, and I won't mess with you' basis so there shouldn't be any problem.
Rats: Be careful of these small rodents. Infestations prove to be a very hard problem to deal with. They multiply quickly and when they do they get into everything. Many also carry disease so dogs and humans alike need to be wary of these filthy creatures.

Rare Familiars

Caribou: Also known as reindeer these majestic animals often keep to their own kind, though if you're still and quiet you might find a herd passing through the serene forests.
Lap Dogs: Good things come in small packages and the same is true here. These house pets were all brought in to Souna from Mira so they are not naturally existing, which means they wouldn't be able to surive alone. They aren't allowed to breed with regular mush dogs, but you can get any toy dog breed you want via uber custom!
Lynx: Lynxes are known for their short tails and the tuft of fur at the edge of their ears. They usually live in high altitude areas which is why they're more common in the northern region of Souna.
Wolves: The domesticated dogs that you see in the shop share a ancestory with these fellas. Because of that it is more acceptable for these animals to form bonds with each other. They act like most canines do, only more primitive and with more adapt hunting instincts. One VERY important thing to note is that wolves and dogs cannot breed, nor can a wolf familiar be any direct lineage to a dog.

Rare Familiar Breeding

The Rules: There are just a few stipulations for breeding two rare familiars together:
      01. The price to pay should you win is 12k
      02. Couples must be of the same species and be male/female.
      03. There must be at LEAST one roleplay between the two. This must be complete and at least 12-15+ posts long with one paragraph in each post. Rp must be completed.

The Offspring: Each rare familiar can have up to 2 - 5 babies. There are no mortality rates so what is rolled is what the couple gets. Like with dogs, once babies are posted pm the mule with which pet goes to whom and what the new names are. As always, babies can only be given away by free raffle, flatsale, or to a friend.

Hi~! I'm Lesotho, a colorist/co-owner for the shop! I enjoy Gaia, animals, and other random stuff. However, that's not what you're here to learn about! Below are my listed ways of attaining a pet. Pets from me can be attained through trades and bribes. Please do not feel bad if I turn you down on a pet trade or a bribe, as I am busy and will most likely not always have up-to-date info on avaliability.
