8/6/07: In somewhat belated news, let's give a big welcome to our new colorists, Kuu Ainame, Bouncy_Pineapple, and naggeela!

There will be a newbie flatsale held on the 10th featuring three wyrms colored by our new staff!

Also, look forward to a planned battle tourney starting on the 10th as well. Rare items and even eggs will be given out as prizes! See the thread for details.

6/28/07: Wyrms is proud to introduce the Colosseum! In this subforum of the guild, you can pit your wyrms against each other in a dice-based battle game that can earn your dragon experience used to up their stats. Eventually battle tourneys will be held for fabulous prizes! Check it out!

2/3/07: Listen up peeps!

The main reason why things are moving so slow right now is because the adolescent lineart either isn't inked, I lost the sketch, or I want to redraw it. Because it's basically just one stage that's slowing down the whole shop, wyrms will be only four stages for a while, until everything is caught up and I have more time to work on them.

With adolescents out of the way I can hold more flatsales, have more events, and generally just get this place going again. That'll be fun, neh? :3

If you absolutely positively want to wait for your yearling to go adolescent, I can freeze them for you. But let me tell you, you'll probably be waiting till spring break, or more realisticly, summer. ._.;; If you have a custom I'll refund you the money for that stage.

1) THESE ARE MY IMAGES. Art theft is not cool.

2) Don't ask to buy a wyrm if there is no flatsale or event currently taking place.

3) If you resell your dragon, I must recieve 50% of the profit, or I will delete the image / you will be reported.

4) Please show up in the shop at least once a month. I want to at least make sure that you're alive. I understand if people forget, lose the link, are busy, or are otherwise unable to roll through every now and then, though. Just tell me beforehand if you can, 'kay?

5) After your dragon has grown to adulthood, save it to your own host. My photobucket account is only so big. x_x

6) Don't PM me unless it is a matter of life and death, or if you have a suggestion so brilliant that only such all-knowing, all-seeing, very special eyes as my own may gaze at it. Why is the shop name "Wyrms" when you're selling dragon-thingies?

Wyrm (pronounced 'wee-erm') is a synonym for dragon. At least, it is in my book.

WHAT??? I don't even NAME my dragon???

Nope. I don't want people naming their dragons Lucy or Cappucino or something. I see things like that all the time, and it bugs me. These are dragons, they shouldn't have mundane pet names.

My GOD you suck at drawing! Dragons don't look anything like that!!!

Of course I'm not a world-famed artist with a brush that could paint life, but hey, I try, and deem myself at least half-way decent. Art is subjective, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so of course you're entitled to your own opinion. Now, dragons don't actually exist, so neither you nor I can dictate what they absolutely must look like, but I hate cutesy renditions of dragons.

Do you host the images?

Why, yes I do. At least, until the dragon is an adult. Then you'll have to save it to your own server, then give me the link.

Is RPing required? What about journals?

No, it isn't, as I understand that many have neither the time nor inclination to role-play on a regular basis, or at all, for that matter. However, it would make me insanely happy if you did. ^^ As for journals... heck, those things are just plain stupid. I mean, it's all right if you want to keep one, but it's a pretty idiotic waste of time to me. O_o If you do decide to make a journal, however, make sure it's in the guild.

I've got my dragon, so... now what do I do?

Put'im in your sig. Or if not your sig, your journal. Post in the thread at least once a month to prove to me that you still live, and RP if you have time. Just show up in the shop every so often, and he/she's completely yours. Just don't claim credit to my art and we'll be peachy.

How many dragons can I own?

As many as you can pay for. This is capitalism. $_$

Ooooh! They can mix elements? Like, how many elements can they have, exactly?

Three in general, if you play your cards right. For example, a fire/wind/light dragon still has a touch of flame in it, so it cannot breed with a water dragon. However, there are some cases when your dragon may have opposite elements within it. These can only be acquired by ordering a custom, or a certain instance in breeding. (Details in the "Breeding" post) Note that I will never sell wyrms of more than one element in a flatsale, unless they are abandoned customs or a clutch of eggs from a breeding.

The old wooden sign groaned, a chill wind bidding it sway on rusting hinges. The crude depiction of a lion was emblazoned across it in fading colors that might once have been bright, but the wash of time, sun, and ocean waters had taken its toll. Dull light streamed from grimy windows, caked with dust and sand. Gulls still flew at this late hour, dabbles of white feather against a black, star-strewn sky, calling out their throaty songs of seas and sunsets.

Beyond the creaking door of the tavern, a great fire burned in the hearth on the far left wall of the room. In front of the roaring flames sat an old man, white beard glowing orange in the firelight. Gathered round him were an odd assortment of people, all listening intently to his tale. Even the bartender, busily polishing grimy glasses behind the wooden counter, appeared to be lending the storyteller his ears. This is the legend he spoke of, true in his time, one long before ours, when myth and our reality was their life.

"Everything is balanced, ideally. Fire is countered by water, light by darkness, sound by silence, heaven by hell. We humans, by our very nature, wreak havoc by disrupting this balance, and when the scales of life tip to one side, the results can be disastrous. If dark overcame light, the world would be thrust into perpetual darkness. If water overcame fire, warmth would fade from the earth.

Creatures we know as dragons roam these lands of Ranothor, fantastic beasts of power and majesty. Some say they are spirits of another realm; others say they are simply beasts gifted with unimaginable power. Perhaps both are true. What we do know is that they embody the very elements, drawing their might from earth, sky, fire, water, good, and evil. They are nature's last attempt at balance, keeping the equilibrium stable, mantaining the elements.

Dragons bond at an early age to another being, carefully choosing a personality most affiliated with their own. No one is quite sure why they do this, but speculation runs rampant: a need for companionship, perhaps? A steadying influence of mortality? Maybe they hope this person will aid in their cause to restore order; or destroy it.

Nature didn't count on the dragons themselves, didn't take their minds into consideration. The have their own ideas, thoughts, personalities; they are not simply stupid animals, though incredible ones. In fact, their knowledge and wisdom far surpasses our own. And power lusts for power. Not content with the present state of the world, some dragons take to strengthening their own element, steadily nursing its presence until it is dominant. The more malicious sometimes even resort to destroying those of the clashing element.

Warring among the dragons has been heated as of late; few remain that remember the purpose of their being: to mantain the natural balance."

Here the old man stopped, resting his head against his palm. "Ah..." he whispered. "Has my little speech roused your curiousity? Perhaps a dragon will choose you as its companion. Will you mantain the order, or will you seek to disrupt it? I suppose it depends on the dragon's alignment... and your own..."

His eyelids drooped, then closed completely. Soon, soft snores and whistles emanated from the old man. The small assembly snorted in protest, but the little man did not wake. Slowly, the company dispersed, leaving the keeper of the tales to chase his dreams in peace.

The three main alignments are good, neutral, and evil. However, these are sub-divided in another three categories:

These dragons believe in maintaining life's equilibrium. This does not make them all good, but simply lawful traditionalists.

Dragons of this alignment simply don't care. Does matter if the world goes to hell? I think not.

These dragons are not necessarily evil, but love to wreak mischief. They seek to overturn the natural balance of the elements, for selfish reasons or otherwise.

Types are divisions within an element. They denote a power source and gift that the wyrm has. All wyrms can draw from their power source early on, but it takes much effort and training to be able to exercise some control over their gift within that type. For example, a sunlight wyrm (a type of Light) is most powerful in sunlight. It can also radiate light with the brightness and intensity of sunlight for short periods of time. A gust wyrm (a type of Wind/Air) is much more stable in powerful winds. It can also create short-lasting bursts of powerful wind.

More common types are listed in the elements post, but some wyrms (especially hybrids) may have types unique or rare for their element. Ask Lion if you want more information about your wyrm's type.

Fire dragons are passionate spirits, typically of explosive tempers and fiery personalities. They are the most lightly built of the wyrms, having traded flight, and their wings, for speed on the ground. Both genders sport two pairs of horns, one at the back of the skull and the other attatched to the cheek/jaw-bone. Females' top horns are longer, more slender, and antelope-like than their counterparts, while the males' cheek-horns are sharper and more-developed, used for sparring.

Water dragons are generally peaceful beings, with calm, pensive, sometimes brooding personalities. Their quiet dispositions lead to constant observation on their part, and so most water dragons are quite wise in the ways of the world. They possess long, serpentine bodies, their dolphin-like tails acting as a rudder. Males of this element also sport a translucent sail of skin and bone. This growth is mainly for show, but also serves to steady the dragon, as the male's longer body is more akward than that of the female.

Dragons of shadow are cunning, mischievous, and often of venomous personality. They prefer secrecy and are generally of few words. The vast majority of shadow wyrms are of evil alignment, good and neutral being few and far between.

Males of this element are heavyset with short, stubby legs. When moving, their bellies almost drag against the ground, while females are more slender and slightly taller. Both genders sport bat-like wings, though such are far too small to support the dragon's weight and therefore cannot sustain flight.

Please note that when buying a dragon, you have made a commitment to post in the shop at least once a month (unless you have spoken to me about circumstances that prevent you from doing so). Owners who disappear will lose their dragon, and I reserve the right to resell them without consulting you. This does not apply to gifts, however. I'm not out to scam anybody, but if you vanish even when aware of this contract, boo hoo.

Also, I want everyone to know that I'm, well, a little slow. Okay, reallyreally slow. There might be weeks between stages of your wyrm's growth, and sometimes when I get frustrated I'll just fastforward them to adulthood. Also keep this in mind when buying a dragon. Again, I don't mean to scam you. I just have a lot going on in my life, and though I love this shop it's hard for me to keep up with it a lot of times.

Seeking a mate for your dragon?

To breed, the dragons must be of opposite sexes, for... obvious reasons. O.o;; Only adults may breed, and may only breed after they have been adults for at least a month. Serious RP between the mating dragons prior to breeding is highly encouraged, though not absolutely required.

Different alignments may breed, thought obviously a lawful evil and lawful good dragon would have very little chance of mating. This may be possible through RP, but otherwise, use common sense as to your dragons' compatability.

Different elements may breed, though opposite elements may only if both dragons are of chaotic alignment. For example, if a fire dragon is lawful, while a water dragon is chaotic, they cannot breed.

The offspring will be of mixed element, though they will closely resemble their mother with characteristics of the father.

You may choose to breed two of your own dragons or one with another's dragon. Only adults may breed.

Gestation periods are about 2-4 weeks.

Each pair may have one clutch of eggs, and clutches generally contain 1-4 eggs (as determined by a dice roll). However, couples who frequently RP have clutches of 1-6 eggs, and chance of having twins in the same egg. Frequent RPing does not mean a single matchmaking RP or googly eyes in the thread. I want to see a prelude, courtship, and good reasoning behind it all besides "love at first sight."

The mother's owner and father's owner will each get approximately half of the clutch, unless it is an odd number, in which case the mother's side will get the majority of the eggs. This does not mean they are all yours to keep, simply that you decide what to do with them. You may decide this together, though, you do not have to split.

Dragons mate for life , so once you have chosen a mate for your dragon, they may not breed with any other. Dragons may breed a total of three times, and after laying a clutch of eggs, a pair may not breed again until a month has passed.

When you have recieved the eggs, you may choose to keep, sell, auction, or simply give them away as gifts, but you must inform me of which of the above you plan to do. However, owners may only keep for themselves two eggs of all breedings a pair of wyrms may have (one egg for the mother's owner, one egg for the father's owner). I must recieve 50% of the profit in a sale and/or auction.
