"I wouldn't get too used to it." Jack said, nodding to Mr. Porter and leaning on his cane to maneuver himself around Kimberly. Mr. Porter stepped forwards as Jack disappeared into his cabin again. The crew-master looked after him worriedly before flashing a large smile at Kimberly. "Welcome to the crew miss-er...Kim." Miguel said slightly warily. "I suppose I should show you the ropes, if you have no objection." He said.

Inside the cabin, Jack laid back down on his bed with a stifled groan and flipped through his book discontentedly before giving up on the notion of absorbing himself into a tale and stared at the ceiling blankly, losing himself into memory.

This is what I loved...And lost.

Kimberly giggled slightly, even if she turned to watch Jack make for the cabin. She turned back to Miguel and nodded her consent before looking curiously to him. "I'd have more objection if anyone else would have, to be honest," she remarked, shrugging impassively, "and while I'm at it, I do appreciate you still calling me by 'Kim'. Anyway, first?"

"First, well, how great is your knowledge of a ship?" Miguel asked Kimberly, smiling kindly, as he gestured around. He would not want to assume anything. That would be a mistake he could feel, and he wanted Kimberly to fit in where she best could. Increasingly in his list of things to go over with her, he would keep in mind to place her on a different shift than a few of the other crew members, knowing their lusty intentions while they were ashore. All in all though, the crew master was sure that she would fit in nicely.

"It's definitely been a while," Kimberly said passively, "Felix managed to drill a bit of it into my head while I was in his care, but that was quite a long time ago, so for the sake of memory let's just say I don't remember enough to put one to the other, but I'm certain I can catch on pretty quickly. Start with the basics, work up?" she suggested with a shrug.

"Of course." Miguel from there began to explain the basics of the ship, from the bottom of the hull to the crow's nest. He brought Kimberly downstairs and toured her through the various cavities and their functions, introduced her to a great many of the crewmen with warning glances cast at the men. He kept a calm and happy aura around himself as he did so, and after a while Adeska joined them. The demi-goddess kissed the crew master without care to who was watching and smiled at Kimberly somewhat warily, eyes and their ever shifting hue unsettling slightly.

Leading Kimberly back up on deck, Miguel looked her over and made a noise of thought. "You would be good in the rigging, no? Light, agile; yes. I'll put you on dawn watch for now, to try you out."

Kimberly took a slightly alarmed note at Miguel's defensive manner over her, altogether thinking it unnecessary for her to be protected in any case, but even so she paid fine attention to the explanation and mechanics of what all went on with the ship. Once she figured her assignment she looked up to the rigging and shrugged, rolling her shoulders back slightly as she did so. "All honesty I think I could manage it without the ropes themselves, but I can definitely do it."
She gave a nod of approval, mind already whirling over how well she could manage with her paranormal showy manner, but consistently reminded herself that hers was a duty, not an opportunity. Again she nodded, slightly more seriously.

"Only one." Kimberly said simply, turning her attention back to Miguel. "Why is it that you and Jack seem like I've got to be defended from my own fellow crewmen? I can keep myself taken care of easily enough; I feel like it's just a hassle to have anyone needing to step in."
She looked up again at the rigging, blinking once annoyedly at the sunlight's glare before shrugging it off with a smile.

Miguel flushed red and looked to the ground. "It is only...it is only that you still appear so very young, and it is only...in our nature. You see, we've seen men turn to animals under this sort of situation. Even the best of men are tried with loneliness here." Miguel said with a mild stammer. He looked back at Jack's cabin as he spoke but tried to conceal him doing so. Guiltily, he looked to the ground.

Kimberly giggled slightly, taking a single springing step - which to her surprise felt slightly more chilled as her frame seemed to fade nearer to the middle of the sudden movement - and turning around behind Miguel, prodding lightly at his shoulder with two fingers. "I knew the risks when I asked the Captain, and to be honest you said it yourself; my abilities will be useful when the time comes, alright?" She sprang forward again, appearing to materialize in front of him with a playful smile on her face. "Besides, I would be at as much risk of anyone's animalism as part of the crew as I would a simple passenger, so what's the difference?"

"As a passenger you are not expected to deal with the crew at all." Miguel said, slightly startled at her sudden move in front of him. He reddened slightly and squeezed Adeska's hand. "I suppose that it doesn't matter though, I am sure you will be just fine." He said with an encouraging smile. He cast a glance around the busying ship as the first drops of a mild storm fell upon the ship. He frowned slightly and Adeska leaned on him, eyes fluttering closed as the water ran down her skin.

Kimberly blinked again, growing slightly tired of the rains of the world. Of course she had reason to dislike them by now; her last storm had literally tried to kill her over what she'd been asked to do in the first place. She sighed, making her way slowly but steadily to the rail, tossing a casual salute Miguel's way as she went. "I appreciate the thought though." she called back, before hopping onto the rail and balancing on all four extremities with very little effort.

Miguel laughed upon seeing Kim's display and Adeska raised an eyebrow at him only to let it fall with a cute giggle. "She's fun. I like her." Adeska said, before her gaze roamed to her half-brother's cabin. "Certainly Jack is alright, no?" She half asked worriedly, turning back to regard Kimberly with a lip bitten. Miguel sighed and pushed her chin to face him with a finger.

"He will be dear, you'll see." He said brushing his lips against hers softly before stepping away to give orders to the crew regarding the rain. He looked around, trying to figure out where best to place Kimberly, and gave her and five others the order to unfurl another sail.

Kimberly nodded and looked up for a brief moment to survey the task at hand. However much she wanted to spring up in a single leap and start from there, Miguel's words of finding a right time for her power echoed in her mind and she instead hopped up onto the rigging. With no difficulty at all courtesy of her superior balancing, she may as well have jogged up along the ropes, and while the upper wind caused her a bit of trouble keeping her balance, she had no such trouble once she reached a hand to the beam just above. "Day one..." she said quietly to herself, smiling all the while.

Adeska stood with Miguel for a long time after, the rain seeming to dance on her skin as she watched the crew. After a while though she withdrew into Jack's cabin and talked quietly with her mother as Jack slept.

When he awoke, they quieted, looking on with pity towards his half pained eyes. He exited quickly, seeing their stares, and leaned on the railing, looking out at the sea with a sharp stare. The rain slid down his face, but he had no care. Its coldness had no effect on his loneliness.
