I do believe its about time for our guild to have its first controversial discussion. Before we begin, I would like to remind you all that the ability to maintain a polite discussion on our forums is one of the stipulations of your membership here, so please, keep your tempers in check.
After-life, one of the prevailing themes found in almost all human belief systems, the notion that death is not an end, so much as it is a beginning, a trasition between manners of existing.
For some there is Heaven and Hell, for others, there is the continous cycle, and separate state of enlightenment, Nirvana, and for others still, there is the Spirit World that exists paralell to our own, intertwined with it, in places. And for some, there is no after-life, it is a farce, a fallacy concocted by the human psyche, a way for use to control our fear of death, but utterly insubstancial beyond that.
Do you believe in a form of after-life? If so, what is your motivation for this belief? Should you not believe, or should you have stopped believing, why is this the case?

I don't know.
But I hope there isn't.
And if there is, and it's not Valhalla, I will be disappointed.

I think that the fact that I'm Christian speaks for itself. And no, I'm not one of those "bible-thumpers" or whatever you want to call them. I'm rather loose (as in, I'm more open-minded), and I acknowledge that not everyone is going to believe what I do. I'm not about to go around preaching my religion to everyone. I hate that...

Well thats good to hear, I'm not a big fan of preachers myslef, but that was never the intended use of this thread, this is just to see who believes in life after death and who doesn't.

As a pseudo-atheist (or universalist, I don't know how to classify myself) who thinks that all belief systems are valid depending on who's in it, I personally believe that every afterlife is reliant on the individual. In other words, I think that where you think you'll end up is where you'll really end up.
I've been raised in a god-fearing Catholic household where my religious/moral ambiguity makes me a target, so I'm personally bitter about heaven and hell and as a result of that, I have rather goofy thoughts about them. To me, hell is one big corporate building where Lucifer is the big boss upstairs and we negotiate something vague for eternity; heaven is a stark white room with a God intercom.
So yes, generally I believe in an afterlife. I think I'll end up in a place where I'm perpetually dreaming what I want to dream, and if not that place, probably in my strange hell/heaven. I don't really have any motivation for my beliefs, they were just something to ponder.

I don't think there is, but I HOPE there is. Not for heaven or hell or nirvana or any other silly childish ideas such as that, but so that one day I can become a ghost buster. "Why?" you might ask and the answer is simple; they are bad a**.
But in all seriousness, I want to believe in ghosts and I've seen and felt things that I can't explain, but I still have a lot of doubts. Who knows though, what the hell do any of us really know about things that are supposed to be beyond our existence and beyond our comprehension? Not much, I'd wager.

I'm a Christian, and just by saying that it's easy to see what my beliefs of an afterlife are. However, I am more open-minded than most of my fellow Christians. For example, I support my gay/bi friends rather than jedge them or condemn them. God said to love your neighbor as yourself, and some Christians seem to be confusing that with "Love your straight, conservative Christian neighbor as yourself." Regardless, I don't force my beliefs on people. We all have the right to believe what we wish.

I really hope there is.
And I'll leave it at that.

Bittersweet Reveries God said to love your neighbor as yourself, and some Christians seem to be confusing that with "Love your straight, conservative Christian neighbor as yourself." ha! Too true. I personally also feel that there is some form of after life; whether it conforms to the Judeo-Christian notions or not is not something that I think anyone can know. (that's what I'm banking on, though.)

I believe God created the universe starting with the big bang, but thats just me.

I believe God created the universe starting with the big bang, but thats just me. That is the most brilliant thing that sounds at the heart of what I really believe. I'm a Christian, however I'm open-minded to the point that I consider myself a religious liberal. In that, I mean that I am open to new and different concepts, and I understand not everyone is going to think in the same direction. I don't believe in forcing my faith on others (as I have seen my friends seriously hurt by thumpers), but as for an afterlife, besides Heaven and Hell (which I think there's alot of misconceptions that were never meant to come about) there is a "interim" a "Spirit World" that is just within our own. Due to all the unexplainable paranormal occurances that have happened to me over the past year has caused me to believe this. What I believe about the "interim" is more complex than simply calling it "perjury" because that's not what it is to me. I can explain if you wish.

Yeah, I do believe that there is life after death. A life that is more easier than the one we're living now. I don't believe in Hell btw. sweatdrop

My sad truth is once your dead youre dead. gone. nothing else. A black hole, but not even that. Youre dead. Youre gone from everything. alone. cold. no sounds. no light. nothing. . But I like to pretend there's a heaven. Just something to look forward to after my children have grown and married. btw I dont have children yet.

Nope. I believe the very idea of heaven is based on the bible and things called near death experiences, which happens when bloody flow stops to the brain, sending it into panic mode causing itself to shut down and put the active mind into a dream like state which is why I don't believe in any religion just because they restrict the one life you have. And any restriction in my opinion outside of the reasons of safety for you and others around you is a crime. Which is why I believe in issues like gay marriage and I do support a woman's right to an abortion with certain limitations. Also churches don't pay taxes and that makes me a sad sad panda.
