This is about Burn's big ongoing tektek contest.
I came up with an idea for the next round (if there is a next round?), but I'm not sure how it'll be viewed, considering the number of great tektekers who participate who are absolutely beast at layering.
What if one of the categories was to make a "simple" avatar? [e.g. Using 10 or less items.]
I don't believe this would require any less skill than our previous themes, since color balance, unity of theme, and overall flow would be even more important with the limited number of items. You'd have to be even more scrupulous about the items you choose, because you can't simply throw on another item to layer over.
I'm suggesting this, mainly because I think a lot of Burn members have become slightly intimidated by the tektek contest.
After so many rounds, they've seen that the winning entries are always complex and complicated, with crazy and impressive amounts of layering and items and just overall mind-blowing awesomeness.
And the ones who've managed to summon the courage to submit a simple tektek have pretty much been shot down by judges who say that their entry is good, but just too simple to really get a shot at winning, just because they don't have that immediate "wow" factor.
Even after making many of the prominent tektekers judges to give other Burn members a chance, there's still that firm belief lingering around - both with the judges and the participants - that tekteks absolutely must have a certain level of complexity to have a shot at winning.
It's true that making regular winners judges has allowed other tektekers to shine, but there's the vast majority of Burn members who have still been somewhat alienated.
I don't believe it would hurt to give this theme a chance, especially since we have two other themes for participants to choose from.
What do you think? Do you think it would work?

I like it, Ivy & I agree with you xPP
its always the same people in the contests.. I hardly ever see anyone new.. Would be good to give others a chance.. Some of those avis have waaaaay too many items.. it just looks cluttered & messy. even it all the colors match perfectly.
& who cares if theres one more of the same item. MANY people do that & they STILL have amazing avis..

That whole problem is definitely something I've noticed & been quite upset by. As you mentioned, I did my best to try & fix that problem by making the "big winners" judges this round, but if anything all that ended up doing was causing even a FEWER number of people to dominate the contest. It's getting kind of ridiculous. So it may very well be time to put an end to Burn's Endless TekTek contest. Especially what with the creation of the Avatar Talk subforum again & all... Just seems like it might make now an appropriate transition point type thing to end the contest at...
Me & StArcana will have to talk it over.
&, for future reference, Ivy & Kira, discussions like this belong in the Crew subforum.

I disagree with most of this post.
First of all, EVERYBODY who's a member of Burn can join the contest at any point & if they work their a** off stand a decent shot at winning. It's not my fault that more people don't participate in that contest, it's not StArcana's fault, & most importantly it's NOT the multi-time winner's fault!
I think it's rude, disrespectful, & unnecessarily spiteful to imply that the people who win each round of that contest don't deserve it. If an avatar isn't good, it probably won't win. By dissing on the winners like that, you're not only insulting them, but you're insulting ME & the other contest judges. I work very hard at & am very careful to choose judges for that contest who are great TekTekers not only in my opinion but as far as their contest wins, reputation in Gaia's avatar talk and dressing room forums, etc. are concerned. Just because you don't agree with the majority of the judges choices doesn't mean that YOU'RE right & THEY'RE wrong. Making a good Tektek is not totally a subjective thing. There ARE "rules". And may I remind you that you've been a judge for most of the rounds of that contest; you helped pick all those winners! & i've seen all your judging results each time around, and they're more or less in line with all the other judging results of the other judges and more or less in line with who wins! so i don't see what you're bitching about when you have a say in who wins that contest, have had a say in it for quite some time, & have never used your power to do much to choose winning tekteks that YOU'RE NOW saying SHOULD BE CHOSEN by the judges. If you'd like to step down as a judge for this round, I would certainly not argue with that decision of yours.

@ elyzia,
Sorry about that. I wasn't sure if I was posting this concern as a member or a crew member, so I just posted it here. I'll remember to post all related future issues in the crew subforum.
Well, maybe not a complete end to Burn's Tektek contests, but maybe for the Endless Tektek contest.
& I don't think neither Kira nor I had any intention of spiting any of the contest's past winners, judges, or you - we were just pointing out a trend.
Though now that I reread over my posts, I did come off rather rude and ignorant, and I apologize for that.

Crap :/ I can't ever be mad or anything for a long time. I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway. I wasn't trying to & I really mean that. If you don't want me to judge in your contest, I will step down. If you still want me to then I will. Choice is yours at this point.
( Yes, I deleted my previous post. I felt bad for saying what I did.. mostly because it was a "at the moment, I just woke up & didn't need this right then' kinda thing. )
