Oliver’s only response to Finn’s rare praise and Peyton’s confirmation was a nervous whine. He couldn’t quite go at it with the same enthusiasm as the others, even Milo’s failed attempt was definitely something.
Quickly stepping in where Milo had missed, the nervous teen swung the axe again with the same reluctance as one might frantically swat a cockroach found in the kitchen with a cooking utensil. It was thoroughly mutilated now, the skeletal axe blade made short work of it’s last identifiable features… and yet… some how it managed to burble and spit acid at it’s attacker once again.
Oliver practically squealed with dismay and scrambled back, shielding his face with one arm and hoping one of the others could finish off the monstrosity.

The trail of blood leads past many of the shops to an area where someone seems to have set up a hasty barricade composed of benches, potted plants and the like. There is a small hunched figure, most likely a child, hidden badly behind it, holding onto one of their arms and rocking slightly back and forth. They show none of the darkened features of the infected, but do appear to be the source of the blood.
There were times, quite often in fact, where watching those that the was defending flail around at the enemy became much more than he could bare anymore. If they were doing a good job of it, fine (and Peyton was doing a good job, and Oliver had done a good job and Milo...well, Milo was trying, he wouldn't dispute that), but oh there were times.
And at those times, Finn really, really just needed to get his hands dirty, and beat the ever loving crap out of something.
Stepping forward again, it looked for a moment like he was going to stop and defend Peyton as he had done twice before. But then, instead, he kept moving, charging forward, acidic puke be damned, straight towards the disgusting fiends horrible spewing maw.
There was a downward slash followed by an upward, before his lance was soon striking straight forward through the creatures mouth and out the other side, before he yanked his lance back again and it fell to the floor in a crumpled, rank fluid leaking heap.
"a*****e ******** up my boots." He drawled, before backing up towards his companions once more.

In the middle of acclimating herself to the supplies Emelina took a moment to look up at Jack. Then it took another moment for her to place where the initiative comment would have come from. "Jack, I take it?" Her enthusiasm was not dimmed by the fact she remembered him not thinking her very capable due to her age; lots of people didn't think much of her. She liked to prove herself and looked forward to the opportunity to do so. Sometimes she actually impressed people! The rest of the time she learned something new.
"Took me long enough to get the message but, I agree, and it seems like things are generally under control." Hunters were limping back with minor injuries to be bandaged and it seemed like the ones that were too injured to return under their own power were being quickly seen to by more advanced, trained personnel.
A Sun hunter limped into the tent and Lina was quickly waved over to not only observe the wound but to take care of it as best she could. She was in her element, humming beneath her breath, and making conversation to learn more about the situation and the hunter.
"I'm okay, but you smell terrible," Al grinned at Noah and completely ignored the fact he smelled equally horrendous. "I think after this, you need a nice long acid bath."
He looked over at Horace and Mik, who was clinging to Horace like a life preserver, "you both do too." He lowered his voice while re-focusing more directly on Horace, "Opposite end of the age spectrum, man?" He couldn't control his eyebrows as one suddenly shot up there with an amused but very subtle waggle.
"It's cool. I don't judge."
As much as he felt he was easing the tension, it was still a distraction. He almost completely missed the creature that emerged from the shop after them and even worse it was heading straight for Noah. But almost is the emphasis. He stopped the discussion entirely and slipped in front of Noah and held Nuru up, the creatures jagged teeth-claw-maws that looked like a ******** tree shredder dug into his fear shield powerfully and toxic disgusting drool oozed forth to add insult to injury.
Al let out a yelp before ripping Nuru back, causing the jaws to twist and rattle noisily. It was clear powerful blows were delivered on both ends.
"Sh... s**t... this one's a lot stronger," he warned.

A glance up and Cain caught the look from Lukas, a nod to him and then a look was spared to the female of the group. When talk of weapons came violet eyes watched the summon of Gretchen's then he followed suit. A serrated polearm forming between hands, "same." Jojo buzzed to life in his head, spewing out curses in excitement. Annoying witch.
As they entered the store Cain went on alert, having spent to many hours playing games to not be. Eyes were everywhere and from time to time debating on picking up useful things in the area just in case bout ultimately remembering he had a weapon in hands already. Rounding the makeup counter Cain snorted and used the tip of his weapon to push something that looked like blood around. The sound of footsteps caught his attention long before Gretchen's words, turning he too fanned out, pole arm coming up in a more defensive hold and almost like he was getting ready to bunt a baseball with it. "Yeah...but where is it coming from.." His words were low, eyes glancing every which way before settling in on a form that was running towards them.
A woman.
Or was it, Cain didn't trust anything anymore. A cold look was cast over the sobbing form and it was business as usual when he spoke, "she looks fine, lets get her back and move on. " And that was it, his weapon was lowered only slightly but still very much pointed in her direction just incase.

Lukas, for his part, didn't have time to worry over what was shambling their way -- because the second the woman saw them, it seemed, she was in his arms, before he even had time to draw his weapon. And he didn't seem to hate it, at least, carefully tangling an arm around the woman's shoulders in as reassuring a way he could.
"I think taking her back out sound smart. Wasn't there a text about that, too?" He turned as he said it, fishing for his phone -- searching for the text Rep had sent -- and so he didn't see the shambling, green-eyed trio approaching their little group...

Isaac rose to his feet just as Nellie ran in; he winced as she missed and went sprawling on the ground. This was messy, and he truly didn't like seeing newfound friends getting themselves hurt - but he understood that this would be his new way of life.
Despite that, he skirted the infected so that he could help Nellie back onto her feet before swinging Lark at the big, armored thing.
His blade cut, but it wasn't as deep as it could have been. Regardless, it was a hit, and Isaac tugged Nellie back just a little so that they could both recuperate.
"Careful, now," he warned again after giving her a once-over. It was obvious he really hadn't been paying attention to what Rep had said, and if he had he was very good at playing it off like it was nothing to be concerned about. "This thing is very, very strong."

If Horace had had fur, all of it would have stood violently on end as Mikael tried to take his hand. He allowed it mostly because he was too utterly shocked to respond otherwise. As that pale hand slid into his grime-and-blood covered one, he wondered how they could be the same age. "Uhhhh," he said, ingeniously. "I'm sure you should, yeah.... stay at camp and, uh, heal people or something..." His other hand rose up and, with the pretext of patting Mikael reassuringly on the back, wiped most of the slimy zombie goop on Mikael's coat. Carefully, he disentangled his hand. Or tried.
"Oh, ******** you, Al. If anything, I'd be like his s-"stepdad. He suddenly felt vaguely ill, and not just from the smell of diseased flesh. If Jan were here, who would he protect? Their little band was pretty weak. If they didn't get back to base soon. Horace resolutely pushed that thought away just as Jannisari pulsed. Awkwardly, he tapped the tekkos together, wishing for once that her heal was a little less... showy. Still, he felt better, fresher for it. As they made their way out of the store, something slithered towards them. Something wet.
"Dammit," he said with feeling. Al was the first to react, rushing forward to knock it hard. "What the ******** - it spits s**t? Mikael, stay out of range, but please, please try to hit it."

He felt like a Resident Evil character and behaved accordingly as he picked his way past abandoned stores, watching his surroundings. No bother was made to hide, though; he was too tall and his hair a little too colorful. Death Division would have laughed in his face.
The barricades, however, made him wonder.
Spying what looked like a child, Jack stopped a safe distance away, weapon still out. Under his cloak, he kept his other hand at his torch. "Quarantine, kid," he called. "Usually means staying where you can get help."

The tiny figure flinched at the voice and wide blue eyes fixed on Jack. She was not very old, dressed in a jaunty little summer dress which was stained with blood. She had clearly been crying a lot and looked pale and in shock.
"Have you seen my mom?" she said, barely a whisper. "I can't find her, I don't feel well." She sniffled in a thick and watery sound of distress. "It really hurts."
She held out her hand which had a very bloody set of toothmarks in it.
For a second or two Gretchen didn't appear to know what to do. She'd heard there were civilians still in the mall, but it hadn't really sunk in, not really, until the girl had thrown herself into Lukas' arms. Not only were they going to have to defend themselves, but they would have to protect any humans they found as well, and there was a thought that made the Death incredibly anxious all over again.
But there wasn't time for it. The girl was sobbing, the boys were suggesting they take her to safety, and a shambling figure was emerging from a row of women's apparel from the right.
Despite the self doubt, she still moved automatically to place herself between the infected and Lukas. "Keep her safe, ya?" She didn't feel she was cut out for defending, but at the least she had gotten between with her offense. The zombie lumbered closer, and Gretch moved to intercept it, twirling her staff over her head before bringing it down on an angle against the thing's shoulder.

Carrying Mimsy over to the fountain was a careful procedure, since it required extracting them both from a failing machine that crumbled with every movement. He got them out and brought them to the large pool, but once they were there he kept her held in his arms, lifted up but facing away. His arm was her chair, and his chest, her support.
Rep sounded like he was talking directly to people - including Mimsy - and Robert started to look around for the hidden cameras. The way his omnipotent voice kept responding to things that were happening was kind of freaking Robert out a little bit. What if they started banging?
Oh wait. You weren't supposed to do that on a mission.
So what if they started banging?
Robert's free hand was filled with coins, and he stuffed them all into his pants pocket save for four. He was going to start throwing them himself, but he couldn't do anything when she looked up at him with those eyes. He couldn't even speak, and she needed him to. But Mimsy never looked at anybody that way, and every time she blessed him with that look, everything stopped in order for him to enjoy it.
"You think the wish up in your head, and you keep it there." His husky voice finally managed to push out. "Then you throw the coin in the fountain. That's all there is to it."

A small wince followed Milo's attempted attack and Oliver's less than spectacular hit. They were trying, it was obvious, but it wasn't a very impressive display, and it wasn't going to do a whole lot to the infected that wanted nothing more than to eat them all.
On the other hand, Finn didn't seem to be having any trouble at all. Peyton looked on with appreciation as he took it upon himself to finish off the putrid thing that was writhing at their feet, and though they all took another dose of acid spit(ew), it stopped twitching by the end of it. "Finish it off, don't tear it apart," she'd mimic back at the Moon, grinning up at him before yet again the sound of something approaching pulled her attention.
This time it was coming from the store front. When she turned to look something large and lumbering was headed towards them. "We've got more company guys, stay alert."

Cain watched the other man then promptly rolled his eyes. The younger hunter nodded in time to the agreed answer. Skeez bag, of course it was smart it didn't take a genius to figure out that she didn't need to be here. Full attention was turned behind them and he peered into the clothing. When someone moved Cain spun back around in time to see Gretchen moving in front of an infected. While the life trainee didn't exactly have a plan his weapon did and it urged him forward. Action, he needed to do something, anything.
A jab with the pole arm and Cain ended up going a little to far left and ended up snagging a dress that was hanging. While the attack wasn't as successful as he would have liked it did steal the zombies attention away from Gretchen. Which unfortunately had brought an impact of awkward swipe to shield and Cain reeling back. "Fantastic.."
