"Um.. No, thank you, though... I'm good." She smiled in a relieved way, though inside she still remained wary. How did one slip on sand? And what had been there for her to hit or head with? Something that would give her a lump, at least.
"Um... I think I ought to say thank you, again... You found my cards and took care of me... And... Do you know where my sister is? I told you she was waiting for me, I'm sure... At least... I think I did..." Lina looked up and gave him a weak, beffudled kind of smile. "Didn't I? And, um... Where did the little dog go?"

"No... Kate doesn't have a phone... Well, there's one at home, but... She's probably still looking for me... How long was I asleep?" She took the cards with fingers that shook slightly, running her hand over the case bfore sliding it into her own pocket, leaving her hand there. "Thank you." Emerged as a murmur from her throat. "I'm sorry to have inconvienieced you, sir. You are to kind."

Sea weed? Had there been seaweed? She couldn't remember. And he had qualified the sister thing. He might have missed it... She felt confused. Extremely confused. There was still the whole what-did-she-hit-her-head-on thing to worry about, but... What if she was being paranoid? She sometimes took after her Mother, in that. But shouldn't she have been moving, if she was going to slip? She didn't think she had been, but then...
She was confused.

"Three..." She stared, then slipped to the floor, her skirt poofing around her in a circle. "Kate... Exams... What about Mom and Dad? They'll be so worried..." She didn't mention friends, she only had a few, and she doubted they would miss her in three days, most of which they normally didn't see her on, anyway. They probably thought she was studying. She took the phone with numb fingers. She didn't know what to tell them.
Three days?

"I don't know what to say. I don't even know what happened." She replied, numb. She didn't feel up to acting just now. "I missed Finals. And Ami's birthday. And Kate--she leaves tomorrow for school, if it's been three days." Lina shook her head. "How do I tell them I did something so clumsily stupid? And--" She rubbed her eyes with a hand, tired, and trying not to show she was on the verge of tears. She didn't want to have to think about it.
She offered him the phone. "You tell them." She said. "You know what happened!" She sniffed.
How was a person supposed to tell her parents that their normally dexterous daughter tripped and hit her head? And at the beach, too. And why she wasn't at a hospital. And-- Her mind chattered off to her, trying to find every possible c***k Kate my find in what she said. She could lie, but she didn't want to. Most people would have worried about what their parents would think, but Lina knew them. Once they thought she was okay, they would relax and go back to their lives. Kate was the stubborn one who pried. And she had to go to school. She had a full scholarship and everything.

She hadn't actually thought he'd do it. She gave him the number. "...Lina. I'm Lina." She knew she'd said that. She always, always introduced herself. Especially when someone did her a favor. "Thank you. I- I can't thank you enough... You've already done so much, and here you're doing more." She half smiled, half-laughed. "I feel a little spoiled." Lina confessed. Five Exams, though. She'd missed five exams. And worried Kate. That, out of everything that had or could have happened, was worst to her.
She hated to make Kate worry, because for as long as she could remember, her sister had been there for her. When their parents went on one of their cruises, Kate had been there. She'd taught her not to be scared of the dark. She'd introduced her to magic, and dance, and scary movies. To martial arts and throwing knives, and art. And almost everything else, too.

She took the phone, and winced as she got the tearfully sharp side of Kate's tongue. "Kate... Kate! You're still going to college, right?" A moment's pause. "Good. I'd have to hurt you, and I don't want to. Mom and Dad? Oh... Still not back yet? Okay. Yeah..." she made a face "Tell the police to quit looking already! I'll be fine." She smiled. "Just don't screw your life up, k? You-" She paused. "No. I'll visit you at college, okay? No messing up, sis. Good. Bye, then. I-- Yes.... yes, I'll see you." She hung up and handed it back, smiling, she yawned and wavered. "Why am I so tired? All I did was hit my head!" She said. "And I still don't know where the little dog went..." She rubbed her forehead and looked up, thinking she probably ought to stand up.
To her credit, she tried. It can't be said that was entirely her fault she stumbled, since she had just woken up.
