Fai smiled to the female, glad she took the message in his words. It would be horrible to let their friend feel misplaced guilt. Blue eye blinked as his long hair was ruffled, the kitsu looking to his companion. A smile pulled up on reflex as he wriggled back to allow more space on the couch. Soft nose wiggled to the strong and unsweetened scent of tea beside him, his tongue sticking out in mock distaste. Not even any sugar? To shame!

Finally taking a sip of his hot chocolate, the mage blinked to the SeeD over his cup's rim. His gifted blanket fell to drape on his shoulders and wings, the mage leaning forward with a silly grin. "Ruuune-chan. Would you like a blanket?" Maybe, maybe not, but it didn't hurt to offer. The mage placed his cup on the floor in front of the couch, careful not to fall forward. "But how has our friend been lately, eh? Enjoying the season change with family?" He could only assume such, being he smelt the fine details of many company along the female's clothes. Did she live with or visit that many people so often? Paws grasped his blanket and with a quick flip, it floated the air before landing on Kurogane. "Hyuuu, Kuro-puppy needs that more than I do. " What with no sleeves, surely.

Ah silence, or what lasted of it whenever Fai felt like commenting on something. The ninja enjoyed the silence, but he would have to admit that it got a bit awkward when the mage didn't talk. Anytime this would happen he would get a knee-jerk reaction to apologize to the mage for whatever he had done and didn't know he had done. Of course he kept all of these reactions locked away before they even surfaced, but he still had these thoughts.

Rune, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy being silent, but was still able to uphold a conversation, which the ninja liked about her. It was usually one of the other with most of the people he met. A loud mouth or silent as death.

Kurogane arched an eyebrow at the mage as he felt the him shove a blanket in his direction. He lifted his tea cup slightly so as to not spill it and frowned at the mage.

" Oi, I'm not a twig like you, nor was I the one shivering from the cold earlier." He held his cup in one hand and pulled the blanket up and over the mage again, keeping an eye on his hot chocolate cup. He huffed a sigh as he quickly downed the rest of his tea, setting the cup on the table beside the couch before pushing himself up from it. There was a fireplace in this room wasn't there? He eyed the fireplace in the corner of the room and then nodded to himself, making his way to the door.

" I'll be right back," he muttered before closing the door behind him.
Great this meant a trip out into the main room in order to grab some of the firewood that had been pulled from outside. Which meant bothering those kitsu he didn't know. All well...

With a huff the ninja padded down the hall.

"Blanket?" Her answer was distracted by Kurogane's exit. Going to get something? Hopefully not outside... Rune looked from the door closed behind the black & red winged kitsu to the bag she still carried with the slightest hint of a frown. No... the ninja was not a fool.

"ah, no. No thank you. I'm fine. Our house is kept quite cool actually. And yes... I suppose." Pale green eyes blinked before smiling softly. "Yes... it's like family..." As much as she knew. The only family she had known the other orphans, then the White SeeDs... perhaps it was like family. A family she had really never thought to have. Certainly not as fast as it grew... or how odd and strange it really was. And yet... there was comfort there. Acceptance. Warmth. Loyalty.

"But yes... we do enjoy winter. Most of us." There was a soft sad smile thinking of her more sea-loving 'kin', AearHwesta & the Audio Gwen -the surfer particularly who did not care for winter or snow. Well they would both be happier this year, would they not? Even with the water cold or frozen, and the sailor kitsu already having wintered his beloved Hiril Anorfalf... happy, snuggled warm with their mates. Their loves. The happy sadness in her eyes grew more sad but without losing her joy for them. Rune sipped her hot chocolate thoughtfully, soaking up the sweet warmth of the familiar beverage. Hot chocolate was a favorite in her home in the winter months.

"Me a twig? Don't be silly Kuro-" The mage was muffled with the blanket tossed back on himself, his words still blabbering disjointedly under the material. Sure he was slimer, but what else could he be with such a skim diet? Two points were made when the kitsu lifted his ears, wriglging out from the blanket to confirm the missing weight beside him. Eyes trailed to the corner fireplace before blinking back to the departing ninja. The door was closed before he could say anything.

"Hyyuuu, Kurogane is too considerate to be a ninja." Fai giggled to himself before throwing a smile in Rune's direction, then reaching for his cup of chocolate. "Ne? But isn't family so good to have around?" His blue tails shifted and curled around his lap while under the blanket. Blonde hair was even more messy now from the blankie abuse, and Fai lifted a paw to try and smooth it down and out of his face. Bright blue eye glanced up in faint surprise before he chuckled. "Heh, seems I lost my rubber band." No wonder his hair was so messy. After some fruitless glances around his seat and floor, the mage just shrugged and left his hair be, sipping from his cup.

Head tilted as he rested it on his paw while gazing quietly at the winged female. What was this? Was winter a sad topic for Rune? Or maybe something tied to it, considering the mind was incredible for drifting off topic to familiar subjects. The mage shook his head as his own mind tried to surface other snow related memories, none which he wanted to relive. "Winter is an interesting time. At least here it doesn't last on and on." Almost forever...

Kurogane returned shortly, his arms full with a few logs of firewood and with a box of matches balancing on top. He huffed as he slipped back into the room, shutting the door behind him with a push of his tails. Unable to do much more than hobble over to the fireplace and drop the firewood on the floor, he did just that, brushing debris from the fur of his arms. He crouched down and tossed a few logs into the fire place.

The ninja had been lucky enough to have grabbed the last few logs that were dry. The kitsu in the main room had plenty of wood burning already, but whoever had brought in more had brought in wood that seemed to have been unable to escape the snow, therefore were wet and burned slowly if at all. After a few right placed burning match sticks, the fire was up and roaring, leaving the ninja to smirk at his 'talent.' He had usually been the one to start fires on their journeys, so starting one in a nice fireplace was nothing compared to starting one in the middle of nowhere.

He pulled the metal screen in front of the fire in order to keep the embers in, and stood up, dusting his hands off. His smirk still in place, he turned to take his seat next to the mage, dropping down with a sigh. He eyed the mage momentarily then paused, a brow slowly raising in curiousity.

Fai never usually let his hair down, or rather it just never really happened a lot, and Kuro couldn't help but stare at it. The mage looked different with his hair down like that, very different. It was silly how one little thing like wearing his hair down could change the mage's appearance.

When his brain finally realized that he was staring, he shook himself mentally, his mind catching up and showing that he had reached out and laced a lock of the mage's long hair in his paw. A blush suddenly flashed across the ninja's face, and he jerked his paw back to his side, furious with himself that he had done that. But why was he so furious, something seemed to question in the back of his mind. He mentally told that something to shut the hell up before he got really angry.

" Y-your hair has gotten longer," he muttered as if to explain himself, gaze being directed towards his empty tea cup. Maybe he should refill it...

Rune giggled ever so slightly at the Fai-in-a-blanket as he tried to escape. It certainly mussed his hair up good, though Fai had the type of hair that looked good fussed. She nodded, eyes sparkling at the considerate ninja comment finding that no words were needed. Fai's giggle helped too. "Oh, family is very good to have around. It's just... family is a loose term in my home... but we care for each other as family should be so that is what counts I suppose." A brow was arching as she spoke, watching Fai search for his hairtie or rubberband, not realizing that was what he searched for until saying so. Then she smiled softly before slipping back into thoughtfulness.

"I don't know... sometimes... I could almost wish it would. Last. Winter, I mean. Though..."

Kurogane was back. "...it would be terribly lonely..." Smiling softly she sipped her cocoa while he made the fire, her smile a bigger thanks than the soft-spoken utterance of the same. Rune somehoe never felt as lonely when she was with the pair, even when she felt lonely it was padded. Without a comment she lightly watched him settle back beside Fai. It was... sweet. It warmed her heart to see such -what she deemed as- tenderness.

Rune's pale green eyes and her happy-sad smile now brightened softly, alighting on her friends. "It's so nice to see you so close."

The chocolate reflected his face in a murky steam, Fai bowing his head as he listened to the other in the room. His maw was still stretched in a lazy smile, even against the the dark eyepatch that crossed his faint fur and the strands of hair over his face. "It's funny you'd say that. Between us and the children, we always carry silly family titles." They had been in almost every world, except some recent few. That's when he bit his tongue against such words of affections. And with the kids...misplaced, what need was there to continue the habit? None, in Fai's conscious mind.

Eyes and brows lifted, curious to Rune's statement. A longer winter, was she sure? I mean, Fai himself had experienced such a reality...had Rune too? One ear flicked to the sound of the door, and Fai peeked to the ninja setting the logs to burn. Gaze was turned back to Rune, just catching her last words. He smiled as if he tasted a candy that was bittersweet, paws massaging against the warm mug in his grasp. "Most likely, if you had no one along to enjoy the snow." And it also did matter, tremendously, just who that other individual was. Otherwise it was just a pair set for survival against winter's deadly beauty.

Fai almost jumped then, having been both blindsighted by his eyepatch and been paying too much attention to the topic. Not to mention the other kitsu now beside him was a ninja, trained with stealth. The mage turned his head, catching sight of one of his own locks in the other's paw. His eyes widened slightly from their happy setting, before closing back in cheery hiding. Kurogane was not the touchy type, let alone one to initiate it so openly. Perhaps the mage had too much influence on the other, and he could only scold himself for the result of his actions. A brow lifted gracefully and his mouth turned into a giggle at Rune's guessing. Why did he feel threatened by those words, or even like his tummy was refusing to breathe? "Hyuu, Kuromoo must like this cozy couch." Arm outstretched to pick up the ninja's mug, his own just as empty now. The paler kitsu shrugged off the blanket and hopped off the couch, making his way to the sink. "Rune-chan, do you need another cup of chocolate? Or maybe even tea?" It was easier to breathe over here, and Fai watched as the water poured clean the two mugs.

The ninja instantly rested his chin on the arm of the couch as the mage left the couch, his black tails wrapping around him and dark wings pulling close. He hadn't exactly meant to do what he did, but he hated himself for doing it and seemingly pushing the mage too far again. An angry huff left his maw before he lifted his head again, eyeing Rune slightly. Besides it being obvious in a sense, she certainly picked it up well enough. Though the ninja was sure that if he had get his hands...paws to himself he wouldn't feel the need to curl into a ball right now.

Regardless of the situation, the ninja pulled himself straight, eyeing the mage out of the corner of his eye. " Don't you put any damned sugar in there mage," he warned. No matter how many times he would ask or tell the mage not to,, though, sugar always seemed to sneak its way into his cup. He turned his attention back toward Rune, sighing softly with a shrug. What had she said earlier? Winter lasting forever?

The ninja scoffed at the thought. " Why would you want it to be purposely cold all of the time? Especially when you don't exactly have much else to do during the season..." Embarrassment had made him jump into conversation, probably in order to turn the direction of topic away from him and the mage.

Pale green eyes saddened, seeming to say from her heart the words her mouth did not form: had she said something wrong? Her 'family' cuddled so much Rune hardly thought about it anymore that other kitsu who were close might not. Her friends certainly were very close friends -though to what degree Rune had yet to bother to decipher. Simply that it was nice they could be close... be happy be together...

Even in her very friendly and affectionate family Rune never felt she had that. Sure. Either. I..."

Kurogane instigating a question caught the White SeeD off-guard. A faint shake, probably unnoticeable to some but to those with senses and perception like these two probably not missed. Especially by Kurogane who had his attention on her already. "I have as much to do this season as any other." Which was next to nothing at all. "But when the winds are chill and the grounds are covered in white-cold..." Rune looked sadly into her cup. "When I'm out on patrol, wrapped in my coats it's easier to pretend." Pretend she did not feel all alone. Rune gently drained her cup to soothe the lump growing in her throat. Dreams... pretend. All her life she had held to them.

"Nya, nya~" The mage only flicked his ear to Kurogane's gruff reminder, placing a tiny drop of hunny in anyways. He stired the beverages numbly, opting to give Rune tea this time for the sake of variety. Ears pinned back as he listened to the others, glad there wasn't total silence in the room. That may have been awkward, and he didn't want to do that to their lovely friend. Once done, he grasped the two mugs and padded over to the others. "Kurogu." Mug was held out to the other male with a silly grin, blue wings fluffing behind his back. Then he turned, skipping over to Rune and handing her the second mug. "I hope you don't mind tea?"

Now cupless and not thirsty for another beverage, the mage promptly flopped on the ground, leaning back on the foot of Rune's couch. Blue tails brushed against the femme's boots as he adjusted himself, finding that his lanky body was almost able to sit indian-style. Just barely. Paws rested on his knees and he smiled at his accomplishment, even if it was something to still practice. Eyes turned between the ninja and the SeeD, quietly going back and forth and absorbing their different statements. The depths of his single blue eye were almost smoldered with the fireplace glowing acrossed him, and it set patiently on the female as she gave her own opinion to the cold season. "But you don't want to pretend forever; it's unhealthy." His voice was soothing, though low with his own experiences.

Hair swung as he made a flamboyant smile to the femme, then to Kurogane. "Rune-chan can stay and make real with us then! What with the children out and me without my poofy coat, I'd love to spend time with our friend!" That'd be much healthier for all of them, besides sitting idle, waiting and pretending. He stood, giving Rune the briefest of a nuzzle to her shoulder, then the mage skipped to the opposite couch, clinging dramatically to one of Kurogane's black tails. "Please Kuroru! Let's spend more time with Rune-chan's company! We can make kit-su-sagi memories!"
Maybe, it'd even help him with his own efforts, as selfish as they were...if only he knew what he truly wanted.

The ninja took his cup, breathing in the steam from the top of the cup, an annoyed look crossing his face as he smelled the honey. " Stupid mage," he muttered as he set the cup on the table beside him. He knew reminding the mage not to put anything in his tea would only make the mage do it out of teasing, but it was just a reaction whenever the mage was serving drinks. The ninja huffed a small sigh, all well.

Kurogane eyed the mage warily, a brow raising slowly in question. The mage wanted to make memories? " Sure?" He didn't see any reason why not to spend time with Rune, he enjoyed her company and it seemed to be the same for her with them. " Whatever your idiotic brain makes up, I guess."

He smirked slightly as he found the mage's hair band in between the cushions of the couch, trying his best to aim and flick it at the mage.

Rune took the cup with a small 'thanks, tea is fine' smiling softly over an even softer look of irrational disappointment as Fai settled himself near her seat rather than near Kurogane. Perhaps it was guilt made her over-analyze the mage's choice. She blew lightly on her tea, watching the steam make new paths for itself from her breath. No... she did not want to pretend forever. But it certainly seemed she had no choice. Rune had only one dream...

Blink. Pale green eyes lifted in surprise from her cup, a slow disbelieving but thankful smile growing on the femme's maw. Her strawberry tipped tails swayed from where they where curled around her, gently thwapping Fai as they went over the couch. "Really?" For the first time she could remember since running into Seifer the kitsu White SeeD felt a truly happy glow in her heart. It was not her dream... but "I would like that very much."

She barely noticed Kurogane with the hairband other than his smirk. She was sitting up with a start as if it had hit her. "Oh! Fluffy coat!"

Setting her tea aside Rune was soon reaching into her bag. First a long fitted black winter coat for Kurogane. Then a fluffy coat much like the mage's missing coat for Fai -but shaped for a kitsusagi. Rune handed them over for inspection with an odd look of confusion in her pale green eyes. "When Trelweny heard me asking Myranda for coats for you... she insisted on putting in her say. I didn't understand, but she has strange ways and was being off at the time anyway." Her expression was turning anxious as Rune silently watched for their reactions, eyes asking without words if they liked the coats.

The mage grinned merrily at Rune, pawing like a kitten to her adjusting tails. "Of course really silly!" Aww, did she take him for a prankster? It had been an honest suggestion, and the mage was thrilled if it was agreed upon. He was the type of individual that thrived with affections and comforts from others. Who better than the kind Rune to make aquaintance and friendship with? Though he did have Kurogane. He was so grateful he had Kurogane, and didn't end up here alone. Hitsuzen must have showed slight pity on him then, at least allowing him to stay near his bait. But they were both set on one goal right now, and that search, at times, would make them strained and in need of a distraction. No one liked an emo mage after all, or so he'd been told by a certain kitsu.

Ears flicked up at the voice of that certain kitsu, play pouting at the gruff words. "Ehhh? Now why is Kurorii always so mean to me?" Too busy giving crocodile tears, he didn't see the hair tie being flicked dead center on his brow. Blink, and a paw reached out to the black ribbon, swinging it in front of the ninja. "Puu, Kuro puppy doesn't like my hair." He dropped Kurogane's coarse black tail as he busied himself with putting the tie back in, not realizing how clumsy the simple task was with kitsu paws. While working on the task, the mage leaned over the table to peek at Rune, her sudden excitement catching his ears. What was she up to?

"Ohhhh, try it on. Try it on! Kurorin will look handsome in that black coat-" His tongue held tied as he watched her pull another garment from the bag, a white fluffy garment. The male gasped, paws rushing to his mouth in attempts to stop the sound. It..it was his Ceres coat! Of course not the original, but so similiar that anyone but the owner would believe so. He clasped the gift as it was handed to him, tracing the details on the material and hugging it close like he used to with Mokona. "Rune-chan is so kind!" Fai buried his face in the white furs of the coat, tails wagging happily in his numb joy.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 17, 2007 1:55 pm

Kurogane chuckled softly at the mage's response to the hair tie attack.
" Its fun," he muttered, a small smirk tugging at his lips. He did enjoy picking on the mage form time to time, though he was sure his enjoyment was dwarfed by the mage's own enjoyment of picking on him. The thought made him huff a sigh, pondering the mage's revenge that would come sooner or later.
" Your hair is just fine," he muttered before batting the mage's paws away from the tie, fixing it in a neat, tight bow. He smirked at his work and pulled his tails back around him once the mage let go.

Kurogane's gaze turned to Rune as she rummaged through her bag, a brow slowly arching up in curiosity. He blinked a few times as he saw the black coat that was pulled out for him, a smirk crossing his maw. He finally had a coat! It had been hard for them to find clothes in this world, seeing as that they didn't have anything to trade with the pork bun being gone as well as all of their trade goods.

He pushed himself up from the couch and took the coat from Rune, pulling it on slowly as he let his wings slip through the slits in the back of the coat. He tugged at it a few times before it fell neatly into place. The ninja turned a few times to see what it looked like, a small smile dancing in his eyes. He loved the coat, but what especially made him smile was the fact that Rune had just reminded him of his own princess with the gifting of clothes.

" Thank you," he muttered, smirking in satisfaction to Rune. His gaze flicked to the mage, snuggling into his coat. He chuckled softly before bopping the mage on the head gently.
" Try it on instead of snuggling it to death, idiot."

For a brief moment Rune forgot about whether they would like the coats, pale green eyes brimming with joy to see them smiling again. And then it was like an over-bright day for one who loves but has been shut off from the sun. Rune sat back into herself, as if trying to find a wall to blend into while smiling happily at their reactions to their coats. But she could not shy away, and truth was... the White SeeD did not wish to: it was merely a habitual response to remain unnoticed. Background. Forgotten.

It was the giggle that escaped her as Kurogane bopped Fai that reminded her to speak, her smile warm and pleased. Fai looked so happy & cute snuggling his coat! It really had been a good choice to trust Trelweny on this. "You're welcome. I was thinking... we could go outside sometime. But those of us accustomed to clothes... even with fur in winter our fur's not enough somehow." She ducked her head, but her eyes remained mostly lifted. "I'm glad you like them."
