Andskotinn affengeil druhol affengeil yeah, I do have a problem with that. Do what you want, think what you want. But when you start preaching, or get violent, then i have a problem. The really funny thing is, when Ian McKaye (inadvertantly) started this whole mess, he was basically just saying that you shouldn't do anything that might hurt you in some way. It seems to me that likelyhood of getting hurt from getting into fights with smokers is pretty high. Straightedge has changed alot from anything Ian McKaye ever said. He also didn't have problems with people doing things in small amounts. He was preaching against the excess which was destroying people in the punk scene. He's also spoken out against people fighting at shows, etc. Didn't Ian McKaye get in trouble with the law for drug posession at one point? sounds familiar, wouldn't suprise me. speaking of Ian McKaye, I know he has a new band, and started a new label where he could sign bands that didn't really fit with the dischord image. But for the life of me I can't remember the name of either. Anybody know?

Ian Mckaye and the whole D.C scene wern't the violent militant stright edgers, that was Al Barrill and Boston. Real Violent sXe kids are youthcrew kids, they beat up Mobey

I've got a lot of straight edge friends, but I'm far from edge myself. I'd rather get off my tits at every oppurtunity if I'm honest, but I've got huge respect for people who can keep to a drug-free lifestyle. Only bit I'm really into is the no promiscuity bit.

personally, im straight-edge, but i dont preach. i'm edge because i dont want to end up like my dad, not because it makes me "hardcore" or whatever. i hate when kids draw huge black X's on their hands and beat the crap outta you if you arent edge. i dont really care what other people do, i just made the choice for myself.
i agree with anti smasher...go read American Hardcore if you havnt.

Most of the vegan power (straightedge vegans) kids I have meet are pretty cool. They are all about personal choice, and riding bikes. I Object! is one really awesome band like that.

yah im straightedge, but like alot of people have said I dont push what i believe on others. Indeed many of my friend smoke, dabble in 'lighter' drugs and rink alot! they know my feelings about these things and dont push it on me. but i also agree with a little bit is ok, but when its taken to the extreme it becomes a problem.
