"No, I suppose it isn't so bad..." He hooted in response and appeared like he was thinking about it. Appeared was the key word, because he actually wasn't.
"You, though, you are actually quite far from plain. You're feathers look nice." Nice. His vocabulary and the only word he could think of was nice. He certainly meant to say something more flattering...
But he couldn't force anything eloquent from his beak, all he could say was nice... Smooth, Fox.

He...he thought she looked nice? No one ever thought she looked nice. She was used to being the ugly one, not complimented! "You think so?" She rustled her wings, self-conscious but obviously pleased by the flattery. "Thank you."

This was a little odd. She seemed okay with his compliment, no matter that it was a little... Vague? It wasn't exactly suiting for his vocabulary or for how pretty she really was.
"Of course I think so. Any other Deep Woods would be a fool to think otherwise. You're astounding." There. Astounding. That sounded a little better than that silly word nice.

Her Artisan really had made her beautiful! Oh, she'd known he'd done a good job, but this was the first time it had ever been under someone's scrutiny, and it didn't just pass - he thought she looked nice! Astounding!
Pidge's feathers sleeked a little in flattered embarrassment, and she smiled shyly. "Th-thank you."
What exactly were you supposed to say when someone thought you were pretty, anyway?"

"You're welcome." His reply came bluntly, but not without a hint of happiness. So she seemed to like his petty attempt at flattery, and that was enough to make him feel as though he could fly to the Above and back unscathed, not that he was stupid enough to try something so foolish as to risk the open.
Perhaps he was better at flattery than he thought, which in turn meant he was better all around... Which did nothing but to boost his ego even more, not exactly something that would be at all pleasant. The beaming Deep Woods roused his feathers and began to preen the reddish things again, though his gaze did not fall from the beautiful female.
"I still feel a bit daft for trespassing, even if you did just settle in... Maybe I can make it up to you somehow."

"Oh, y-you don't have to do anything," Pidge assured him, fidgeting yet again. Not that she would mind if it meant he might come back sometime, but...still. "It...wasn't daft at all, really."

"If you say so, then." He chuckled softly as he pulled his tan beak from his feathers. He couldn't place a talon on it, but he certainly did feel much lighter and far more happier than usual. He did tend to be the more dour type, after all.
"Perhaps we could go hunting sometime?"
