Do you know German? If you do, you'd be fine in the States. They teach that in the majority of high schools. 3nodding

in my school we could choose between learning German or more norwegian.
but yeah, I only speak norwegian, and write english.
umh, I have read something from around 1700, and that was really fun, because the language was like a huge mix of norwegian, Danish, and some words that seemed like german and english.

We did a bit of Old German in my high school, and it there was a lot of stuff that looked like English.

Oh I love languages. Death is always teaching me Norwegian, and it's pretty easy cuz a lot of it is like German and English.
