"You're very welcome." She answered happily. He still seemed nervous about something and she couldn't figure out why, but it was rather cute. Perhaps it was because it reminded her of a foal meeting someone for the first time and the thought made her giddy.

When he mentioned that he was running for exercise, she stamped her front hooves in place some, almost eagerly. "Oh! Can I run with you, please?"

The sunset stallion blinked in surprise. She wanted to...run? With him? That was...that was...amazing!

"I...uh...of course you can!" he managed to say. "There's a trail that we're on, you see, and it winds here and there through the forest until it ends up on the lakeshore." Calor paused. "Would you like to lead, or shall I? I'm afraid it's only wide enough for one at some points."

The mare tilted her head some at the look of surprise on Calor's face. Did she say something wrong? She hoped not.

Her worry faded when he said that she could tag along with him. This caused her tail to wag. The woe of having a short tail, she loses the elegant swish or sway of ones with longer tails. She listened intently as he told her about the path that they were on. When he asked about who will lead, she gave him a light nudge with her shoulder. "How about you taking the lead, since you know this path better than me."

"All right, I can do that..." the stallion trailed off as he nodded his head vigorously and took off at an easy jog. Turning his head so he could see if the mare was following easily or not, he picked up the pace a bit, heedless of the low branches that were trying to catch on his horn. He felt his lips stretching in a smile. This was fun!

She nodded when he agreed to take the lead. When he started in a simple trot, she took off and easily kept up. A small nicker escaped her when he looked back to her, smiling warmly. As he sped up, so did she, so not to put too much space between them. She had to hope that his horn didn't get snagged on anything as they went along, it seeming that he wasn't really paying too much attention to that.

Calor knew the trail well and ran it blindly, constantly turning back to Quidal with an expression that showed him surprised she was still there, surprised she would still want to be there.

His memory served him well, but for the fact that there had been a powerful storm mere days before. As it was, he never saw the fallen branch until he tripped over it.

The sunset stallion was aware enough to be able to turn his body as he felt himself falling, landing on his side instead of his face, but he would have bruises for weeks and embarrassment for the rest of his life.

The mare kept running after him. Giggling from having so much fun and giggling at the look of Calor's face whenever he would turn back to look at her. Was he worried he would lose her? Whatever the reason, he sure looked surprised each time and it greatly amused her.

She continued to follow at a decent pace. That is, until she saw him take his tumble. Gasping, she stopped just as he landed on his side. Not hesitating any longer, Quidal rushed to him, "Are you okay?!" She questioned as she got to him and lowered her head to him.

The stallion shook his head, trying to clear the lingering confusion the fall had left him, but it was jarring what as a sudden and halfway expected headache.

"I...think so. I will be."

It was sweet of her to be so concerned, but he wasn't really sure he could stand back up again just yet.

"That...wasn't on this trail last time," he told the mare.

Quidal walked closer to the fallen stallion and remained close by his side. The look of worry remained on her face, even when he stated that he believed and then claimed he would be fine. "Are you sure?" She asked softly, lowering her head down. When he was ready to stand up again, she would help him, but for now, she would let him gain his bearings, knowing from having fallen once or twice before herself.

"You got to be careful of that sort of stuff. Something new grows in the forest almost every day." She said in reply to him mentioning that the root he had tripped over wasn't there before.

"Yeah, you're right," he agreed, steeling himself to stand up again. Before he could lose his nerve (or worse, get all stiff), he began to lever himself up.

Calor's legs felt as weak and wobbly as a newborn colt's and his balance wasn't much better. But he did get up. And stay up.

"See? I'm fine," he told Quidal, hoping that his legs didn't look as shakey as they felt.

Quidal moved slightly to give him room to stand up, but was ready to give him extra support if needed, if he was unable to remain standing for long. She watched as he lifted himself from the ground, tail flicking anxiously and hoping he didn't injure himself. When he did manage to get up, she had noticed that his legs seemed a bit knock-kneed, but he was able to keep himself up. That's good. She thought with a relieved smile.

When he confirmed that he was alright, she wasn't completely certain, but nodded. "I'm sure you are, but I think we should still rest here a little while before we start running again." She suggested, sidling up next to him for just a little more support for him, how little it may be.

The stallion flushed, shamed that the mare had seen through his bluff to his weakness. "I'll be flne," he told her again. We'll just go at a walk." It was the only concession he was willing to make, and besides, it would keep his muscles from stiffening up. Calor wanted to impress the mare with his strength, not be pitied by her!

Suiting action to word, he set off again, looking behind to see if Quidal was coming.

She was still concerned, even when he assured her again that he would be fine. With a small nicker, she nodded gently when he suggested they continue on in a much slower pace, a walk. It wasn't as much fun as running through the forest, but she will gladly accept that if it meant he didn't hurt himself further.

When he walked ahead, her tail flicked behind her and she soon walked ahead after him.

In time the path led to the lakeshore, as Calor had promised. The sun was westering, turning the calm surface of the lake into an orange fire. The stallion found the coloration oddly appropriate.

"Well, here we are," he offered, feeling awkward as the journey ended. He simply couldn't imagine what would happen next, but he hoped Quidal had enjoyed herself.

Despite the slower pace, the mare followed after Calor, quite happily. A small nicker escaped her to symbolize this as they approached a glistening lake. The colors on the water's surface caused her eyes to widen some. Not once has she been around any body of water while the sun set, so the scene before her was quite breath taking and majestic. Walking up, she just gazed at the water as the sun sank off in the distance.

"It's beautiful!" Quidal exclaimed softly, before looking to the stallion who lead her here. "I really appreciate you bringing me here, thank you and I enjoyed the run. I do hope you're feeling better now." She added with a small waggle of her tail and a warm smile.
