"oh," she smiled "how wonderfully poetic." she nodded in silence, then spoke softly " where were you going before i interrupted your travels?" she found it pointless to stand about shooting the breeze when you can talk and walk at the same time...

The flutter bowed his head. He really wasn't trying to be poetic, but it must have been his Bardic training. "Just because Fate caused us to cross paths here, at this time doesn't make this meeting an interruption." He smiled brightly. "I was merely meandering. Going whichever way my hooves decided to take me."
He started shifting his weight subtly from hoof to hoof, prepared at any moment to resume his travels, wherever they might lead. " Did you, perchance, have a particular destination?"

Poppins chuckled softly "no, i am like you... for once... i wander with out a purpose... " She sighed... she used to have purpose... and she was reduced to... this " Sorry for my attitude, i am normally a bit happier... I am ... or rather i was... a governess... in my old herd... but... my way of thought was not what the stallion had wished...." she trailed off

Two kindred souls. It seemed they both had much in common. To be left adrift without a purpose... that was not a good feeling for anyone. He felt hurt for what the mare had gone through.
"A governess, huh? Musta been interesting."
He seemed to remember a peaceful area he'd discovered once while he'd been wandering in this general area. It would be a likely place to meander to. If only he could remember the way.
"If you've no particular destination in mind, I know of a lovely place nearby. It is quite soothing."

Poppins nodded " it was rather enjoyable. I love children and i do find myself missing them from time to time." she sighed and plodded next to him silently for a time not sure was else to say "tell me about your past laurel? where did you grow up?"

The unexpected question caused him to flinch suddenly. His past... it was a rather sore subject with him, and he tried to keep it firmly where it belonged, in the past. But his companion would have no reason to not ask him, not knowing the nerves that question would manage to strike.
Taking a deep breath and trying to steady his voice so that it wouldn't break and reveal his inner turmoil, he answered. "I grew up the youngest child of a bardic mother and a charming rogue father, generally ignored for my two sisters were their favorites. Up until I was a young stallion. Then there was an accident, and I found myself wandering these lands. I really don't remember too much more about my past than that."
Well, even if he did remember more, his nightmares were not something he'd be willing to share with anyone, let alone someone he'd just met that day. He shook off, trying to rid himself of the gloom that was the constant accompaniment to those thoughts.
"What was your foalhood like? Do you have any siblings?"

Poppins dipped her head " if i do, i do not know about them, my earliest memories of my mother were quite... tramatic. I could not wake her... so i left her, and became lost. Until the Herd found me." she picked her head up high " my mother had told me not to forsake my mind for any man, but that is what the stallion wished of me... to become a mindless baby maker... " she shivered in anger " when i was old enough to know better, he cast me out of the herd... and i do not regret a second" she said proudly.

Understanding the whole bad past issue, Laures could tell that there was probably more to the story than that, but was more than ok to just let it go. To pester the more for more details would mean he'd have to open up more about his own past, and that was something he really didn't feel like doing right then... or any other time if he'd had his way.
He started to wrack his mind for some other topic on which to converse when he noticed they were almost there. They'd almost reached the spot in the meadow he had found most soothing and relaxing. It was a scent on the air perhaps, but whatever it was, this sanctuary was something he could desperately use. And if he wasn't mistaken, so could his companion.
"We're almost there," he murmured as he started to pick up his pace, adding a new spring to his step. "I hope it will help."

Poppins looked about her ... and gasped. "oh" escaped softly from her lips... "wow laures... this is... amazing, how did you... where did you... " she looked about at the tree's and the grass. "it's winter why are these blooming so early, did no one tell them?

To say he was surprised to see the glen flowering this early would be an understatment. All he knew was that when he'd been wandering and needed to find a peaceful place he just happened upon this area. He didn't know how or why, but he wasn't about to deny such an extraordinary gift.
"I don't know how... or why... just, whenever I need to find a bit of peace or tranquility, my hooves or wings seem to lead me here. Not that I'd ever complain."
He didn't understand why, but he just carefully watched the mare's expressions, hoping that she might like the place as he did.

She closed her eyes and inhaled the heavenly scent. " i have not smelled flowers for so long... between the desert, and the winter... oh" she breathed the air... "you must be magic laures truely magic" she bent down and took a bite of grass

Laures started in surprise, then blushed deeply. After a childhood of jeers, insults, and mockery from his own family more than the herd with which they were loosely associated, any kind of compliment was almost hard for him to accept. But to be called magic... that was not something he would have ever thought. He blushed and stammered, and finally decided he wouldn't be able to express just what it was that he felt, so he fell silent.
After a few moments and more than a few mouthfuls of the sweet tender grass, he started to feel more in control of himself. "I think it's this place that's magical, not me." Unable to hold back the bitterness he still felt about his family, he lowered his voice to a whisper and hoped Poppins didn't hear the rest. "After all what magic could the unwanted son, the failure, ever possess?"
He shook off the feelings those memories always seemed to invoke, and attempted a smile. "I take it you like this place?"

Poppins smiled "oh yes... " then frowned " what do you mean... unwanted son? failure?" she looked concerned... she was going to say more... but... she did not want to take in more then she could 'chew' as the phrase goes "Laures... do you have... a story to ... tell?"

Laures flinched. He really didn't think the last of his remark was loud enough to be heard, but obviously he just wasn't quiet enough. He forced as bright a smile as he could manage as he fought down all his old insecurities.
"We all have stories to tell. Some are like fairytales, others like tragedies. Mine aren't quite either. But nor are they suitable for such a nice day." He tried to evade the question, to laugh it off and make it seem unimportant, because truly, the past was the past, and rehashing it didn't make it go away, or change it.
Everyone had a past. Everyone had the choice, they could dwell on it, they could take the important lessons learned and move on, or they could place it firmly in the past where it belonged and think on it no more. Given what he went through, he favored the last approach.
He shook his mane lightly and looked around, breathing deeply the scent of peace that was unique to this place. "I am glad."

Poppins shruged and said nothing more of it. " well no matter what happened in the past... I think your simply MAAAVALOUS" she said the last part in a gaudy rich womans voice... hoping to get him to chuckle " and you must have a little magic in you somewhere... to have found this place. I don't think i could find it in a million years" she had to admit... she admired laures... even in the darker moments... well dark from what she had seen... he always found his way back to a happier light. Perhaps someday she would to?
