Though there was no snow on the ground, nor were there any plants growing. The world, it seemed was caught in that small space between Winter and spring. The air was still chill but with an undercurrent of warmth that hinted at the warm weather to come.

Laures found himself once more wandering the plains, on his hooves currently, the dull ache in his wings left from the injury he'd sustained arguing against bearing his weight aloft. Though he missed the freedom of flying high, he realised it was better this way. That he take the time and allow his wings to fully heal now, so that he'd not lose the sky forever.

He contemplated the day, it was lovely despite everything, and he was alive and had hope. The last, he'd come to realise, was one of the most fragile and precious things one could own. It had been a rather long time since he'd travelled back this way, and yet it seemed like only yesterday. He had a few fond memories of this place, and some that were not so good.

He merely wondered what the day's vents would unfold to be. Would he have more fond memories of this place? Or would the bad outweigh the good? A small frown appeared during those heavy thoughts but was dispelled as he shook his head. The day would be what he made of it, and he'd determined it was going to be a good day.

Poppins wondered about... smelling the air softly... Spring was almost here... winters last icy grip had finally let loose.

She tred lightly... avoiding the mud so that she would not get herself dirty on the way to the stream. She was certain there would be food for her.

She looked over and caught a glint of Blue. She closed her eyes and looked again. Yes... blue over there. She called out "HELLO?!"

Laures was not so deep in thought that he didn't hear the hoofbeats of another nearby and heading his way. After everything that had happened recently, he was curious to see whether the newcomer would be headed his way or if they would be moving on. Were they male or female? Friendly or not so much? He only hoped that whoever it was, they were at least indifferent so he wouldn't have to escape in a hurry. Without his wings, he was at a terrible disadvantage.

It was with a sense of relief he listened to the voice of the stranger when they called out. A mare. He let out a breath he wasn't aware that he had been holding. He'd heard of evil mares, knew that stallions didn't hold a monopoly on evil and terror, but in his experience he'd yet to come across any evil mares. His views may have have been rather old-fashioned, but he wouldn't give up his views of the fairer sex. And after all this stranger had a very kind voice.

His hooves drew him closer to the mare almost as though under a spell, or following a siren's call. He trod carefully over the muddy plains, wishing he could fly and thus avoid dirtying himself, he wings started to beat as if in anticipation of flight before he caught himself. He waited until within easy distance and looked over the stranger. A very pale if brightly coloured mare with a gentle seeming appearance which quickly put him at ease.

"A lovely day isn't it."

"Oh hello there " she smiled kindly " yes it is quite lovely indeed" she looked at him and busted out laughing.
once she got control of herself she looked again "Forgive me... i thought you were a mirage... your colors are so .. wonderfully brilliant, i thought i must be making it up. But now i see... i'm not" she smiled again " my name is poppins... who are you?"

Though it seemed the mare was laughing at him, Laures could not find it in himself to be offended. She had such a light pleasing laugh that was a joy to listen to. But when she'd gotten herself under control and explained herself, Laures felt much better about it. It wasn't that she had been laughing at him per say, but rather what he'd appeared like. He tilted his head consideringly. He'd never thought of something like that before.

And as she introduced herself, smiling, Laures couldn't help but smile back. Her good nature and mood was completely infectious.

Grinning he very gingerly spread his wings to the side as he gave a slight bow. "A pleasure to meet you Miss Poppins. I am Laures."

He'd been brought up a gentleman, but it wasn't very often he met someone who would appreciate the mannerisms that came with such, so he hoped his bow wasn't stilted or stiff. That truly wouldn't do for the son of two talented performers. It had been a fairly long time since he'd practiced or needed such grace. A soft crack in his knees was followed by a small twinge in his wings. He truly hoped it wasn't a sign that he was getting old.

"OH! You observe the old ways " she curstsied as best she could but her's to was awkward and stiff. "it's been a long time sence i have encountered a Stallion with manners" she smiled... "your wings... they are amazing!" she almost gasped when he opened them, but stopped herself in time. "Forgive my staring, you are the first one i have seen... with wings period... much less... such brilliant colors" she had noticed his joints pop and his slight hitch when he opened his wing... she pondered if she should inquire further?

Laures was pleasantly surprised, a brilliant genuine smile graced his features. It had been such a long time since he'd come across a soquili with truly good manners much less one who knew and understood the old ways. Ways which were no longer observed and were in perlious danger of disappearing completely, a true loss for the world. He bowed his head in response to the mare's curtsy.

"It has been such a long time since I've met anyone who even remembered the old ways. It is truly an honor, m'lady." He blushed lightly though it wasn't obvious given his color. " I thank you for the compliment. And no apologies are needed. I'm well aware my kind are rather rare around here."

A gentle breeze began to blow, and it seemed to beckon him to fly. A grimace passed over his face almost to quickly to be discerned. He hoped that it wasn't seen by his companion. She was one he'd like to not upset. And someone he'd like to call friend. And if she thought his action was somehow related to her she'd be well within her rights to just up and leave.

"It has been a while since I last passed this way, and I was travelling to reaquaint myself with the area. Perhaps you'd like to join me?" He invited. "Unless you had some other plans for this day?"

OOC: i am kinda of placing this AFTER dimitri if that is ok...

Poppins shook her head softly, " no, i am just walking around.. trying to forget someone i fear i never will " she sighed some what desperately. " I found this scenery to be quite pleasant and the wind.... soothing." she smiled softly " do you not find the day to be pleasant? you look as if you are not happy?"

There seemed to be a gentle melancholy to the mare, a feeeling to which he could relate to all too well. Life, it seemed left its scars on everyone's heart- be they good or evil or just trying to survive. There was most definately a story there, and there was nothing more his bard's heart loved then a good story. But his slightly more logical side pointed out that it was not his duty to learn the story of every soq he chanced upon, nor was it up to him to bear the weight of the world on his fragile shoulders which were already burdened with so much.

"I am sorry for your upset. It is a hard thing to try and forget someone, no matter what wrong they have done you. Though it is even harder to remember such," he murmured softly, bitterness colouring his tone just slightly. He shook his head as though to clear away his heavy thoughts. " It is indeed a pleasant day. Winter is at last releasing its grip on the world, and it seems a day of infinate possibility. Perhaps it will help you to forget that which causes you pain, but perhaps it will remind you of the good and what made the one you're trying to forget so important to you."

Then he threw back his head and laughed just for the sake of laughing. "It is not that I'm unhappy. Rather, I am greatly wearied after a long adventure that has left me no wiser but more scarred than when I began. And that is not an easy thing to accept." He gingerly stretched his wing out, revealing patches of new skin and healing membranes. "But at least, I will be able to fly again one day. And you, though you might be trying to heal, one day, you will be whole again."

His mouth shut with an audible snap. He was being perhaps over bold by offering such advice to a new aquaintance, but he prided himself on being able to read others, and it seemed that she could benefit from hearing his words.

Poppins laughed at his reaction " do not worry my friend" she nodded " sometimes... others have valid points as well. Even if i may not wish to hear them." she smiled softly then looked closer at his wing " wow... that must have been horrible." she examined the scar further, amased that he still had use of his wing period. She readily admitted she did not know much about the function of wings, having none herself, but her skill in medicine was some what extensive. "who tended your wound, they did very well. Was it your two legger?"

Laures was somewhat taken aback by the intense scrutiny with which the mare examined his wing. He'd really not meant much more with his action than to prove a point. Life left its scars on everyone, though not all were visible. He had tensed up expecting some sort of pity, the usual reaction of those who knew about wing injuries and the affects on one's ability to fly, but when he recieved nothing of the sort he was somewhat confused.

The only one he'd met who truly did not see him with pity was... And suddenly understanding dawned. "Are you a healer?"

"No, I wasn't tended to by a two-legger. " He cringed, "I don't have a two-legger. I was caught unawares by a falling rock while exploring a cavern. The intial treatment was done by myself and my companion at the time. We were able to set the wing and find some herbs to prevent permanent damage. Then, after we parted ways, I encountered a Kirin healer- I never managed to find out his name- who helped me heal the rest of the way. That was months ago, but as you can see, my wing isn't yet strong enough to fly."

He felt embarassed about the whole thing, and his voice trailed off as he told his story. Clearing his throat he tried to find a way to change the topic. "That's my story. So how about you? Who is it that you're trying to forget?"

He knew the question was rather intrusive, but he also knew that it helped, to talk your troubles out, and a sympathetic stranger was about the best person to tell them to. A stranger has no preconceived ideas, and are not likely to be be judgmental. So he waited for her answer, hoping to be able to help. He just couldn't stand to see anyone in any sort of distress, no matter how minor it seemed.

"I dabble a bit, as one has to when they watch after foals" she chuckled " it will heal up soon enough... until then... RUN to get the feel of the wind" she smiled knowingly. " as for my heart, It's due to love... which can be very troublesome in it's own right." she was not sure how to go about explaining Dimitri, or why they parted ways. " He was one that should not have been kept, and that i should have known better" which was the truth, Dimitri was a gentleman to the end... even to this day, but he was not to belong to just her, no matter how much she wished it.

Love. Now there was a very troublesome little concept if ever there was one. Laures had once fancied himself in love, but it had all come to naught. Since then, he'd preferred to travel or really just spend some time in the company of others, anything to help fill the void where relationships should be.

He lowered his head, somewhat saddened by the mare's answer.Saddened for her and for the other nameless stallion who'd lost something so precious. "Ahh, I see." And really what more could he say?

Poppins nodded and stood silent for a while.. then spoke softly " don't look so Grim Laures. Till a fate i believe to have been destined for on my own, not one to share among others. Misery i have learned is like a plague, consuming all chance of happiness. It is as you have said, nothing more then a broken heart that time will heal eventually." she bumped her nose to his is a joking manner... " if you force me... i will have to tell a joke and i must warn you, i am simply awful at punchlines" she laughed lightly, hoping to changed the melancholy mood

"As long as you live, there is always hope..." Laures murmured beneath his breath. How funny it was that this mare, this stranger would remind him of a thought he had earlier in the day, of the quote someone important to him once made him promise to never forget. Now, as he didn't believe in coincidence, Laures had to believe that this encounter happened for a reason.

Jolted out of his thoughts by a rather unexpected nose bump, he couldn't help but grin sheepishly. It was truly too nice a day to spend feeling upset, melancholy, regret or other such negative emotions.

He shuddered at the thought of having to hear poor jokes. As a wandering bard, he'd heard his fair share- and then some- of awful jokes. It was not an exprience he cared to repeat.

"I thank you for the thought, but I don't think it is necessary for you to trouble yourself," he even managed a credible smile."See, dark cloud lifted and carried away by the wind."
