Iskra barely cowed at his voice, if anything it made him more amazed. "I KNOW it isn't a play thing, that's why I wanna learn how to control it. Hiisi doesn't care and he keeps lighting fires anywhere he goes." She frowned, "And I didn't mean to attack you.. I saw the bush shaking and I thought you might be a rabbit or something. My mistake." She murmured, ducking her head apologetically.

She almost wanted to ask to do something for him just to make up the fact she had attacked him when he spoke about the talons. "They won't eat me if I'm around you." Iskra was defiant as they came. "And anyways, I could puff out enough smoke to confuse them and run away before they knew what happened. I've already done it before with an angry pig." That was not something she liked mentioning, failure. "Now would you ppllleeaasssee go to the cave so you can lie down. It's not like I'm going to anything to someone who can breath fire."

Boy, she sure was convincing.
Draven turned away again, peering out into the forest with a scowl. His tail whipped angrily at the air, and it was very tempting to toss the razor-tipped appendage towards the unsuspecting fawn.
But no, he wasn't a monster. Not that kind of monster. "I said I vill not lie vith jou. I do not trust jou." Then an idea formed in his brain. Two can play at the game of tricks and fools. "Jou must earn my trust before I can teach jou." He hid the smirk on his face by pretending to be interested in something in the distance as he spoke. He was never a very good liar. "Zhe first zhing jou need to do is..." He paused as he calculated an impossible task in his mind. If this didn't get the fawn away, he was all ready to give up the ghost. "... Find..." What should he have her find? Something rare, small, impossible to see... something nonexistent? But that would be risky if the fawn wasn't as gullible as he hoped. "Find a red leaf." Yes! As far as he knew, red leaves only existed in the fall... and this was the season of green. Draven smirked. He was so clever.

Iskra stared at him, he was finally taking her seriously. Good! She listened quietly, patiently, until he told her the quest. "A red leaf. Got it!" She nodded surely, and bound off only to stop momentarily. "Oh, and the cave? It's another five minutes from here, with your limp." She giggled, "But don't try and wander off, like I said, it's SUPER easy to find you." And with that she pronked off deeper into the woods.

A red leaf. Well of course there weren't any plants right now who had red leaves. But she had seen funny colored leaves, brown and yellow and RED! in piles deep in the forest that had built up. Of course, there were bugs and mice hiding in those piles but she could live with that for now. Just the search alone for these mounds of decaying leaves took her a good twenty minutes, another five digging to find a truly red leaf. Well, it wasn't as red as her, and it had some brown, and something had eaten the tip of it, but it was still a red leaf! Happily completed her quest, Iskra turned tail and bounded back towards where she had last left the grumpy hart.

Finally.
Draven couldn't hide his growing smirk as he continued to hobble across the forest, not intending to go into the cave Iskra had pointed him to. It wasn't long until the fawn came back into hearing range. Draven cringed, biting his lip as he persevered through the pain of his limp. Please, please, please. Turn around. Don't see me.

Iskra huffed in annoyance when she got to the cave and didn't find her prey. Well, of course she figured he wouldn't be here, but some tiny little part of her brain had begged to find out if he just maybbeeee had come. But no.

Turning around in a circle she sniffed the air for the wonderful smell of black smoke, the red leaf still dangling out of her mouth. Another moment of pondering and she quickly back tracked to where she had left Draven in the first place. Iskra giggled as she looked over the ground, the hart's odd foot pattern was evident enough to follow him by. She opened her mouth to call after him but stopped and frowned. "I don't even know his name!" She murmured. "Dad would be super disappointed." Now with a second goal in mind, Iskra bound her way after Draven.

"Vhat did I tell jou? Do not come back until jou have found zhe leaf." Draven whipped around to give the annoying fawn a menacing glare. But the glare dropped when he saw her prize. Crap. Seriously? The buck faltered slightly, pausing to rethink his strategy. This vould be so much easier if she vas my size.
Snarling, Draven returned his attention to the path in front of him. "I still do not trust jou."

Iskra gawked as he turned around to continue his march forward. He didn't care about the leaf. Her little fawn heart cracked a bit, she had been fooled! "I don't CARE if you don't trust me!" She cried, stomping her way back to his side. "All I want to know is how to make fire! And I will NOT leave your side until then. And why are you still MOVING!? You're hurt! You're really not that smart of buck, are you?" Totally won't call him a stag, nope, he lost all respect she had for him now. Kinda.

"Jou need my trust to learn to breathe fire, so obviously jou must care zhat I trust jou. Zhere is more jou need to do to earn my trust." Draven continued, ignoring the painfully true comments. He purposely, and subtly began walking off his path and towards the cave Iskra mentioned. "But I vill not tell jou vhat zhey are. Jou can zhink of it as zhe first lesson. Patience." He was totally spewing nonsense at this point. His previous attempts were just futile. And now it seemed he would rather lose his tail than continue hobbling in pain.
Besides.. when was the last time he was back-stabbed by a fawn... ? Draven sighed. When it grows up, he'll have to beat it up extra hard to get rid of it.

Iskra groaned, trust and patience and all that crap. He'd already betrayed her trust, why should she trust him a second time. But no, there wasn't anyone else to teach her. "Oh. Alright." She sighed, watching him wobble like a newborn towards- ha, the cave. He was heading towards the cave.

Without a word she bound off ahead of them, knowing the time it would take for him to get there would be plenty to get it ready. Iskra quickly sprinted about, gathering a mass of moss and other soft objects to make a giant bed for her soon-to-be teacher inside the cave. She even lurked all the way to the back, not ten yards, to make sure there wasn't anything using it first.

Draven watched with a skeptical expression as the fawn pranced away. When he came to the entrance of the cave, he felt a horrible dread tug at his innards. The fawn was no where in sight. And it was dark in that cave.

This was an ambush, wasn't it? That fawn probably had adults hidden in the back of the cave to come out and attack him on her signal!

Draven shook himself from his agonizing thoughts as he cautiously stepped forward. A gentle flame flickered from behind his lips, acting as a flashlight to illuminate his path. If his senses weren't failing him, there was no one but a predictable, and maybe slightly glowing fawn in the distance.

What's this? Draven's hoof encountered something soft. He looked down. A bed of moss? The bucks fatigue overcame him and he instantly lowered himself into it despite his weary behavior. His head screamed for the sleep he was constantly denying them.

Iskra was beginning to nudge some dry sticks from the back of the cave when Draven made his appearance. Oh! And he was even using fire! Her little tail wagged madly as he collapsed on the bed of moss. She quickened her pace, using her head to get the sticks close enough to the bed of moss so Draven could light himself a fire if he wished, but not close enough to catch the bed of moss on fire.

"So." She sat down at the mouth of the cave, looking out into the forest. "You're going to wait forever and ever to see if I'll leave you alone and such, right? And make it like a test, like you said, of patience. It's fine with me, really. I've got nothing better to do, and you're the only one I can learn from. So if you make me wait, I'll just wait." She turned back to look at him and flashed a grin, then looked back outside. Yes, she might be a tiny fawn but she had her mother's knowledge. Thankfully, not her fathers.

Draven gazed at the pile of dry sticks. Was this some sort of failure of a gift? The buck lightly scoffed and rolled his eyes as he rested his head on his bed of moss. If that brat would quit yapping away, he might be able to get a wink of sleep. Or at least die peacefully.

Iskra sighed, obviously the hart wasn't going to give in so easily. "Should I go get the healer?" She asked softly, honestly concerned at how pathetic he was looking. Instantly regretting the offer she murmured a 'nevermind' and turned to look back outside. Silence was something she normally hated, but as long as she wasn't alone she would be fine. She mentally challenged herself to go as long as she could without making a sound.

The black hart pretended he didn't hear that insulting comment as he huffed a last bit of smoke for the night. Finally, all his concerns were put to rest as he drifted off into a deep, and surprisingly peaceful slumber.

{Time skip!}

Draven woke, stiff and sore from last night's adventure. His eyes opened to discover he was in the cave, which was now bright with the rays of the morning sun. He didn't dare move when he remembered his fawn companion. Maybe she went to rest with her parents last night. Draven thought, hopefully. But then, as he swung his tail across his form, he was (un?)thankful to realize he was still in one piece. Maybe Iskra's intentions were honest, after all.

The night had been sooo boring, even after the smoking stag had passed out, Iskra had been WIDE awake. She had spent much of the night chasing fire flies about the mouth of the cave until she wore herself out.

But with the first light of morning, she was back up and ready to go. The lazy fire breather was still dead to the world, so Iskra found other things to do while she waited for him. First she found some water and dragged it back to the caving using a bowled leaf. Super tired from that workout, she decided to find something to eat, berries she had spotted nearby, and on her return found Draven wide awake.

"Guff Mrng." She called as she pronked her way into the cave, dropping the branches of berries next to the bed. She beamed at him, renewed with energy, "How are you feeling~?"
