Draven decided to avoid social interactions as well as he could. The new herd had already been so "friendly" in greeting his arrival. The buck had hopped this place would be an effective hiding place. He curled around himself, his wounds multiple wounds aching, throbbing with pain. With every movement, his horns would cause the bush to quiver, and leaves and insects falling on his face. That would attract the attention he didn't desire.

But it didn't even matter... if he couldn't control the blaze in his gut. Every breath was black, giving the thicket the illusion that it was on fire.

Draven let out a grunt of displeasure. The best thing to do now, would be to sleep... and maybe his flame would sleep too.

Iskra had been lurking about, chasing what ever she could find to amuse her. After losing a mouse to it's hole, she looked up to notice a bush. And not just any regular bush. It was shaking, quivering in fear of her very presence.

As she crept closer towards the shrubbery, crouched as well as a deer could, she began to notice the smoke. Of course she hadn't notice it before, she herself expelled the stuff all the time, but now this bush looked like it was truely on fire. Maybe it was her brother Hiisi's doing. None the less, she would find out! Adventure- Ho!

Iskra sprung into action, heedlessly leaping/crashing into the bush with a terrific battle cry, brandishing her small horn to beat up what ever was cowering in the bush.

Dark velvet eyelids drifted down Draven's red eyes to conceal his vision. He prepared for a deep slumber, growing ignorant of everything in his surroundings. The hope of a sleep was utterly stolen away with a surprise attack by an unknown enemy. With his vision cluttered from leaves, smoke, and darkness, all Draven could do to defend himself was to aim a kick at his assassin with his hind legs.

The movement brought a forceful jerk through his body, sending him into a pain that caused him to roar. He cringed, quickly stumbling to his hooves to confront his attacker.

It was the last thing he wanted to do, but if his life was at risk, it couldn't be avoided.

Iskra was about as confused by the bush as her prey was, getting hit by a hoof then a branch. The roar near terrified her but she held her ground, roaring back with not as much volume but with the same amount of smoke and force.

Doing the one thing she knew how, Iskra rammed forward with her tiny sharp horn into her massive foe. "TAKE THAT! FIEND!" She didn't know exactly what that meant, but her dad was yelling it all the time.

Draven looked to meet his opponents eyes in front of him... but surprised to find that he was ... alone? A sneer appeared on his lips, snarling gently as he gazed from left to right. What kind of trick was this?

Until something sharp made contact with his good leg. The buck looked down... A fawn? Feeling more humiliation than rage, Draven lowered his head to meet his forehead with her armed one. With a powerful jerk of his neck, he hoped to shove Iskra far away from him. He met her eyes with an intense glare, a snarl gurgling behind yellow fangs, and smoke billowing from his nostrils... that was usually enough to scare the young ones away.

Hoping that would do the trick, he rose his head and leered into the forest. He'd need to find a more effective place to rest. Somewhere dark and hidden.. A den sounded cozy.

Digging her hooves into the dirt as he shoved, Iskra managed not to go flying head over rump when Draven shoved her. She mimicked his rawr, her own smoke billowing up from anger until she realized it wasn't the bush smoking, but him.

"YOU CAN MAKE FIRE?!" The temperament of the fawn instantly changed, she mindlessly bound the few steps back to the menacing hart. "Smoke leads to fire, yeah?" She beamed up at him. "Can you teach me?" She nearly fell over wiggling with excitement. Not only did this hart look powerful and scary, but he could smoke! He HAD to make fire! Her little fawn heart might break if he didn't.

Draven forced himself to limp ahead, causing him to surge with pain in every movement... But worse than any pain, the fawn was still at his heels. A deep frown creased the buck's face. What was he supposed to do? He couldn't attack the thing, it's so weak and helpless. He couldn't insult the thing, it probably wouldn't be able to comprehend verbal abuse. Not to mention... if there were parents around, he'd have to deal with them. Though he loves a good fight, there were several problems with this type of scenario. For one, he's already half dead.

This thing was obviously not effected by his face. So here goes plan B... Ignore it until it gets bored and leaves. Draven was pleased to find that most younglings had a very short attention span. He continued to limp, reluctant to express the pain shooting though his back, legs and neck as he moved.

Iskra huffed a plume of smoke in protest as he began to limp off. She scowled and easily caught up with him, tagging along at his side. "I'm not going to leave until you teach me how to breathe fire. I know you can."

She gave him a moment to think it over before desperation kicked in. "I'll do anything! Really! I'll be a good student. Or I'll hunt for you! Or find something for you. Or anything. Really." Her whine disappeared to true interest.

Draven wanted to speak. The words gathered in a knot in his throat, but he swallowed them along with the pain. He knew he'd have to wait longer than a few moments to give up on plan B. Even the most persistent children would get bored of something so unresponsive.

No, he couldn't speak. He couldn't acknowledge its presence. It'll leave... sooner or later.

"It's really rude to ignore people." She snarled, staying glued at his side for a good minute before falling silent herself. Her eyebrows stayed furrowed as she followed his every movement. She wasn't going to leave until he acknowledged her and answered her questions.

Time passes quickly for a fawn, she forced her mind to stay preoccupied on Draven and him alone, not that frog that was jumping out of their path or the little bird hiding in the bushes. Her brain finally snapped to the question of exactly where they were going. "Are you trying to run away from me? Because you are doing a horrible job. I'm going to follow you, be sure of that. I can track animals too, for a good bit. And you'd be really easy to track down."

For a moment, Draven tricked himself into believing the fawn had disappeared. He was amazed that she was even capable of being silent.

Oh but then there was that voice again. The sound that penetrates his eardrums and magnifies the pain in his corpse of a body. The truth of the words stung, causing the mighty buck to stumble and grunt... and coming from a fawn?...

He turned slowly to meet the fawn's glittering yellow eyes. His face was skeptical bu- s**t! He acknowledged her presence! Plan B would be completely ineffective! .... Now what!? Draven huffed in frustration, a snarl appearing on his lips. "Go avay. I'm hurting and I vant to rest..." He motioned to his multiple wounds... festering burns and gashes on his chest and a mangled angle. Draven rolled his eyes at himself. This wasn't going to work. Fawns are impossible.

Oh, it had worked! She pronked with joy on their walking path. He had looked at her! He was even talking-

Iskra stopped for a moment, confusion plastered on her face. "If you're hurt, why are you moving. You didn't have to leave your thicket." She rolled her eyes at him and shoved forward past him. "There's a cave up here I think. I chased a funny looking creature into it earlier." But she quickly jerked her head back to look at him and glared. "And if you think of running away I'll just follow you again."

Draven's face twisted. It was hard to tell what emotions were churning up his face. If one was to be really observant, they'd see caution, confusion, frustration and pain. He just wished he could go back to his comfort zone... among hostile hinds. "I left because jou attacked me. Zhat made my vounds hurt more. I left to get avay from jou."

The buck's distrust naturally flared up when Iskra offered the cave. What was she playing? Did she want to wait until he was asleep and take advantage of his vulnerability? Would she look for things to steal, or cut his tail off, or gorge his eyes out in his sleep or... But wait. Why the hell would a fawn want to do any of those things.. ? Unless she's an assassin in disguise, trained by her parents to put on a cute face for her unsuspecting victims.

Draven would not fall for it. "No. I said go avay. Zhat is final."

Iskra stomped a hoof in the dirt, snorting out a plume of smoke in her rage. "I will not leave until you teach me how to use fire. Mama wont, Kila isn't around, and YOU'RE the only other person I've seen who can do it. And you look like a badass fighter." Because she totally knew what that meant. At least it sounded cool when her dad said it.

She poked her horn into any part of his hind quarters that didn't appear hurt, trying to heard him in the general direction of the cave. "How about you go lie down in the cave and then you'll not be so grumpy and you can teach me how to use fire." Flawless logic.

Draven's black breath billowed from his maw as he snarled. He knew it was ineffective against this thing, but it cooled him nonetheless. "Fire is not a playzhing." He said forcefully, raising his voice to get the point across. "And I vill never lie vith jou, jou might attack me again." He wasn't usually so blunt with another herla, but this one was young... she'd need a little more explanation with things, right?

Draven didn't react to the small horn in his thigh. It was a painless p***k compared to the mountain of pain he'd already been bearing. "If jou do not leave now, I vill let zhe vild talons eat jou."

...Liar.
