"Yeah, it can take a while." She giggled while watching him roll. He was pretty bad at this. Well, and 11 wasn't too bad, and it gave him a +1 modifier... But he'd have been better off with 12 or higher. "You know, if they die, they die. you can always roll a new character, or hope someone can revive you." She folded her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. "Besides, if you do need to roll a new one, I can help you." She smirked. She had to admit, Naois was pretty nice. Very different from most of her gaming circles. Maybe it's cause he wasn't a gamer, and had encountered 'girls' before. Her mind wandered a little as she remembered the first game she had with one group. No one believed she was really a girl for a couple weeks.
"Oh!" She snapped out of her little memory daze to hand him the next sets of dice for him to roll until they had all his stats figured out.

Naois looked at the dice he had rolled one more time before turning his attention to Indigo. It was odd, but nice that he had seemed to have made a friend over some game of paper and dice. Who would have thought of it? He should have gotten into this game much sooner, maybe e would have had more friends by now! "Well, let's hope for that revival thing. Making a new character seems like it will take me a while still and I'd like to be able to play with you and your friends." He explained as he picked up the dice one more time. Indigo seemed to drift off a bit as he rolled the dice one more time, though she came out of it on her own without him having to verbally nudge her.
"Okay." he said thoughtfully before taking a slow sip of his soda. "The stat thing is done Rolling the dice was pretty fun. But now how do I know what I can do with this guy? When do you suppose I'll be able to join you and your friends in the game?"

Indigo smirked, lifting up a D12. "Now? We go shopping." She said and rolled the dice. "Oh! Not bad! I got you 9 gold pieces." She pulled another book out and flipped to the back. "Let's not have your character run around in his panties, shall we?" She thought a moment about that. "...We already have a mage who does that." She sounded amused by that.
"Really, any time you want to play you can. The guys are cool and we can pull together a game night any time. Though I don't know when you're off work, and I work weekends. Though that hasn't stopped them from coming to the shop and having an impromptu mission while I was working. At least my boss was amused. They bought sooooooooo many cupcakes." She folded her arms as she thought. "The next game night is gonna be at my place. You should totally come over! The mission we're doing is a pretty easy one and we could use an archer for sure! See, when we were playing last, we had just sneaked into the black kingdom when word was sent that the king was going on a 'mission of peace' which basically means he was out to slaughter another village. We're going to stop him. And being a ranged fighter, all you gotta worry about are his mages!" She was pretty excited about this plot, and before she realized how much she had babbled on, she'd given him the whole run-down. Finally realizing it, she stopped with a startled 'urk!' sound, blushed, and nearly attacked her soda, chugging it.

"Shopping?" Now Noais looked a little perplexed. First he glanced about himself. They had plenty of snacks still. And he had thought that Indigo had brought all the books they needed. "Okay but..well..." How did one go about telling someone they lived on a real strict budget? Money was always a uncomfortable topic. As Indigo would pipe up about gold though...The uneasy expression immediately vanished as realization dawned.
"O...OH! Yes! Of course." What a idiot! He had nearly embarrassed himself so badly just now! Naois glanced a little over the book near to Indigo as he mused on just how much 9 gold equaled. Was that like...twenty bucks? Or fifty?
"Hmmm. I don't know. What if I want him to be a nudist?" Naois asked with a teaseing grin. "Course if you already have a mage like that, then it's not as funny." He recanted a moment later. In the next few minutes, he found himself trying to absorb as much as possible that he could about the game. he figured he understood a good deal of it, it seemed just a little complex, but nothing that a few hours of actual playing wouldn't help him become comfortable with. "Alright then. How about I give you my number? You can just ring me to see what I'm doing the next time you guys are going to play?" Naois eyed his character as he spoke, and after a moment he asked hesitantly. "Hey..can I..ah..change something about my character real quick?"

Indigo was staring at Naois before she began to giggle again. "You are totally priceless." She waved her hand at him. 9 gold would be... Oh, I'd say probably more like $90? You can get some decent starting equipment like a leather tunic and huntsmen pants. You could also get a weapon. Hm... Dagger would do more damage, but you couldn't improve your range skills unless you got a bow." She was thinking about it
"Huh? Oh, yeah. Though the mage really... er... yeah... it's probably best not to think about it." She flashed him a smile. "Wait, you want to change something? Sure. What's being changed? Age? Gender? Name? Do it quick before we allocate skills and your stuck."

Priceless? Naois found his head ducking a little as red tinged his cheeks. Well, at least it wasn't the worst flub he could have made this evening! Naois began to carefully jot down a list of items and their prices onto his character sheet, all so he could keep track of how much he had spent already. "Bow, for sure, and some arrows. The armor is good for staying alive. Particularly with that roll I made." Naois replied with a faint laugh.
he paused then when Indigo would be slightly stumped by his decision to change some things about his character sheet. "Oh. I don't think this will impact any skills or anything. I just...kinda...think it would be interesting to play a girl?" Naois glanced at Indigo to see how she would react to his gender choice. "That's not too weird or anything is it?"

"Awesome. That's totally fine. It'll be fun to have another female character too. Most of the guys I play with won't do it, and instead we have a party of sweaty smelly men and m poor little cleric." She waved her hand as if smelling something. She then made the change to the character sheet. "There we are. You're all girl'd up now. Hey, if you wanted to run around naked, I'm sure you'd get bonus points in distracting the enemies!" She said playfully before rocking side to side a little, still smiling.
When was the last time she'd had this much fun just making a character? Most of her friends were so serious, and would have destroyed the character sheet if they'd gotten a one. "I'm having a good time." She said softly. "Do you think maybe we can hang out even if it's not about the games?"

Naois had to admit, the acceptance of wanting to play a girl character made him rather excited. He looked down at the character sheet with a bit of fondness already forming for the fantasy girl. He set his pencil down for a bit so he could casually read over some of the information in the book they were using as a resource, then gave a snort of amusement. "Aren't you afraid your guy friends would get upset if I decided to just bounce around naked everywhere? I want to play a girl, but not one that is like that. I'd feel embarrassed to making a girl act so shamefully. Besides, I don't think she'd forgive me." He said as he tapped the sheet. Hmm..maybe he was taking the character creation process a little too literally if he could imagine a busty red head glaring at him and aiming a bow at his stomach in insult.
Naois lifted his head when Indigo would speak in such a soft voice. He blinked for a moment, then nodded his head with a smile. "Sure. I think I'd like that. My uncle has been telling me I need to hang out more with kids my own age, and I think he'd be thrilled if he knew I was friends with a girl. he's got some really odd misconceptions about boys who only spend time doing volunteer work and studying." He leaned in towards Indigo and whispered to her. "He thinks I'm a closet politician."

She listened intently as Naois whispered to her. Being friends with a girl was awesome! Specially a girl like her, right? But then, something quite unexpected left the boy's lips and the most undignified of sounds came from Indigo. She snorted as she began to laugh. And then snorted again, making her laugh more. She had to pinch her nose and cover her mouth to try and suffocate the laughter. When she had nearly turned blue from stifling the giggles, she looked at Naois. "Politician? My dear if that were true then I'm afraid we couldn't be friends." She tried to sound serious. She hoped she sounded serious. But she was still smiling, and that probably gave away that she WASN'T serious.
Now what was it he just said? "Oh, I don't think my friends would care. Once you get into the game, they're pretty chill. They take it kinda seriously though, and it's a big deal when they die because they're so into their characters. Not that I'm one to talk." She started drawing shapeless forms with her finger on the carpet. "I mean, I've got the back story for my character too. And I'd be upset if she died. If you don't love the character, you can't love the game. You won't take it seriously. I mean, sure, you can be goofy in the game, but if you're being goofy when we're fighting, say, a level 45 dragon, because it's just a game, then it's not fun for anyone and we all die." The thought of her character dying actually made Indigo look slightly forlorn. But it was a passing expression, quickly replaced with a smile.

That was a very...curious sound to come from a girl. Naois had not realized he had said anything so amusing. Though it made him feel pretty good seeing her crack up like that. He smiled a bit more openly and shook his head as she'd give him a gentle ribbing back. Naois glanced at his character sheet before passing it over to Indigo. "You know. I think we're all done with this. Unless you see something I missed or should change?" He asked her while leaning back against the base of the couch. He tried to imagine being so caught up in a characters life that you would actually be upset over it's death. Subconsciously Naois twirled the silver ring on his right hand. He supposed he could almost understand. He was living a real life fantasy now..as confusing as it was and all. It was still a sight more interesting then 'wake up, go to school, do home work, go to work' then rinse and repeat the next day.
Naois shifted in his seat and looked over the books scattered on the floor, and on a whim he picked one up randomly to flip through. "Hey Indigo...if your life was like one of these books. How would you feel about that?"

She was about to tell him that he should hang onto it. But on second thought, maybe she should keep it so he didn't have to worry about it when he came to play. Indigo was about to take the paper when he asked a strange question.
"If... my life were like a book, I imagine I'd end up smelling like dust on some nerds basement shelf." He teased before considering. "But.. if you mean if my life was like.. a character? With abilities and weapons fighting animated skeletons and living blobs of jello... it would be pretty amazing. Specially when they drop loot! Man, if I could whack a jello cube over the... well, head, and get a dollar? I'd be set for life! Stupid wiggly blobs of chemicals... What about you?"

The fact she did not take his question seriously was expected. After all, it wasn't a serious scenario. Not for normal people that is. Naois looked at the books while Indigo would get around to answering it though. She thought it would be amazing. He supposed for someone who didn't think it was real or possible it would seem like fun huh?
"So..what if...they didn't drop loot?" Naois lifted his gaze to peer at Indigo. Reaching out, he lightly tapped the character sheet she held, and he asked her with a soft and thoughtful voice. "What if there was no reward for your battles. Say, the people were real, and the danger was real. What if these people needed your help, and the fact your life was going to be in danger. There is no reward. No money, heck. What if there wasn't any real recognition for the work you did. Would you still do it? Would you still put yourself in that situation, knowing and expecting nothing in return for your efforts. I mean, you could die! Do you think it would still be ready to do it?"

"When I was little." Indigo started. "And I learned my mom was a pilot, and what that meant, I was really excited until one day when her flight was hijacked. I remember sitting on my dad's lap watching the news. My mom was missing for several days. But when she came home, she told me that the air marshal was the one who helped her and the other people on the plane. I didn't know what that was, and asked her. She told me about how they're policemen on the planes. We talked for hours about that." The look on her face was fond as she thought back to the events.
"After that, I told my mom I was going to be an air marshal and help people too, so no other little girl would have to worry about their mom when she flew. So you see, even if there's no monetary reward for a specific action, you're rewarded by the people you help. You know they're safe and can go back to the people they love. Sure, it's dangerous. But people do it all the time." She looked at him seriously. "When was the last time you thanked a fire fighter, or a police man just for doing their job? Ever since that happened with my mom, I brought cookies to the fire station and the police station just to let them know people do appreciate them. I think knowing that you made even one person safe is a good enough reward. What about you? Would you do it?"

Naois listened thoughtfully to Indigo as she shared a bit of her lifestory with him. He tried to imagine how he would have felt is someone he loved had been kidnapped in a plane. He was afraid he'd have felt that he had lost them before it was all over. He would have grieved, and then felt such guilt for not having the hope that Indigo clearly had that the person she loved would come back to them alive. Naois's lips lifted though, as did his mood as he imagined a little Indigo saying such words to her mother. "Your mom just have been so proud of you."
He had to think a bit then to himself. Indigo did have some points there. How could he not do the job when she put it to him that way. "Your right... I think I would. I mean...doing something right just for a reward is not right at all is it? It should be done because that is the correct choice. Danger or not, if you have the ability and opportunity to do something good, it shouldn't even be a question." Naois nodded his head a little and felt a strange sense of peace.
"Thank you Indigo. Really." He added after a moment. He flicked his hand through his hair to push it from his eyes and looked around them. "So...we are done now right? You wanna run me through some practice rolls or fights so I can keep up when we actually play?"

Indigo smiled and nodded. "No problem! I'm an open book, ask me anything and I'll tell ya." She was glad he thought he'd do the right thing too. Naois was a pretty nice guy. She was enjoying hanging out with him, and was glad she met him at the game store that one night.
"You wanna do a quick practice game? I can roll up a character and set up an easy mission for us to do. It won't count for your characters actual stuff. Levels and items you get won't count cause this is unofficial, but it would help you learn the game more." She was already grabbing the dice to roll out a quick character. A meat shield. Someone to take a hit for his 1 hp archer. What a fun way to finish off the night.
