Niko took the piece of meat carefully as to not n** her hand, especially since demons had sharper teeth than mortal creatures. His eyes never left the male human as he watched each individual muscle twitch and stretch.
"We have astronomy together," the boy continued, "I just thought we could have something else together. Say dinner?"
Sensing her immense discomfort, Niko wedged himself between the two humans, nuzzling Promise's hand as if to ask for more food. Which he most definitely did want a taste of more human treats but not before this other human was long gone. Looking up at the male, his eyes flashed brightly for just a split second as Niko glared at him.

Blinking in shock, Promise looked down at her lap, her cheeks turning even redder. "O-oh...." She said softly trying to stall as she looked over at the dog, comforted as he nuzzled her hand and begged for more of her food. Not wanting to give up the rest of her sandwich she handed him a chip and glanced back up at the boy.
She recognized him now that she looked at him more, and he did indeed have astronomy with her, and although he was cute she honestly couldn't see herself dating someone right then. She was too uncomfortable with herself let along with other people. "I... uhm....N-not to sound... rude but I'll have to decline..." She ran her fingers through the dogs fur glad he was in between them now shielding her in a way.

Now this was an odd taste. It was really salty. Really, really salty. Oddly, he found himself craving another one. What were these odd little chip things? His tongue darted out to lick his lips, showing his teeth.
The boy looked deflated but didn't move. Rather, he shifted his weight and attempted to give a charming smile. "Aw, are ya-"
Niko snapped his head towards the human boy and growled without baring his teeth just loud enough for the boy to hear. There was no reason to disturb the rest of the humans in the deli.
"See ya around, I guess," the boy said. As he retreated, he stumbled over a few out of place chairs and Niko's lip rose slightly in a smirk. Promptly satisfied the boy was gone, he turned back waiting for another morsel of food.

Watching him go, Promise let out a shaky sigh of relief and folded in on herself even more as she absently reached over and handed the dog another chip. "Thanks boy..." She whispered pushing her food away no longer hungry. She had always been edgy around men, and to have one openly ask her out was a little unnerving to her. It didn't help that her self esteem was practically non existent which made her stiff and stuttery around people she didn't know.
Letting out a calming breath she leaned over and pressed her face into the dogs neck, nuzzling his fur and letting the soft hairs comfort her as she wrapped her arms around him in a hug. "Thanks..." She said again and just started to bet him, rubbing his sides and head before massaging his ears.

He took the chip that was offered and watched his human curiously. Her reaction to the boy surprised him but not nearly as much as Promise's next action did. Being suddenly embraced caught him by complete surprise and he nodded a "you're welcome". After a moment, he was still confused but he was thoroughly enjoying having his ears pet. Now he knew why the other members of his pack had no problems letting their mates lick them. He supposed this was also how humans showed their affection...at least towards animals. Niko was not only finding humans intriguing, he decided they were also very useful and could get used to this attention...

After a while of thoroughly fondling the dog's ears and head, Promise turned back to her sandwich and forced herself to eat a few bites before she gave up, her appetite ruined for the day. Sighing softly she fed the rest to the dog and got up to throw her trey away and gather her things. "Alright boy... seeing as you've taken a liking to me, you can stay the day with me at my apartment, but then I'm going to have to turn you in to a shelter I think...." She didn't like the idea but her landlord was pretty strict about pets, she'd turn him in and hope that his owners stepped up. He was way too friendly to be a stray. "Ready to come home and help me study?" She asked scratching his head lovingly with a smile on her face.

A shelter? What was a shelter? Niko did not like the idea of going anywhere that wasn't a) alone, or b) with this new human he decided to "adopt". Either way, he would figure that situation out when it became an immediate issue. Going back to her apartment sounded exciting though and he quickly jumped up and nudged her hand, willing her lead the way. Apartments were were humans lived, he knew that much, but he he'd never been able to actually see one. Humans didn't like animals coming to close to their windows he had discovered one night...since then, he generally avoided trying to get a closer look.

Promise smiled and leaned down to ruffled the dog's fur for a small moment before she walked over to a trash can and tossed the left over food. "We need to get you a name..." She chuckled and walked them out of the restaurant and down first avenue. "I can't keep call you dog after all..." her feet picked up speed as they walked dodging around pedestrians down block after block before they came upon an old brink building in a less than safe neighborhood. "Here we are..." She petted his head again and pulled out a key getting them into the front door and then leading the dog up the first flight of stairs. "It's not the greatest place, but it's with in the budget...." She shrugged and walked down the long hall way to apartment 217 at the end of the west wing.

As soon as his human opened the door, Niko bolted in and started sniffing everything from her furniture to the things behind closed doors. The apartment had an overall sweet scent to it and he caught a whiff of almost the same scent he smelled on Promise. Instantly he trailed it to her bedroom where there was a vanity with a bunch of colored bottles in all shapes and sizes. As he got closer, all the scents mixed together but he was able to sort them out and found the one that smelled similar to her. Niko wondered what they were. Some of the bottles had odd names like "Enchanted" and others the names of -he guessed- trees. Still interested in the bottles but curious about other things, he left the bedroom and checked out every crevice he could put his nose to.

"Well aren't you curious...." Promise chuckled and followed the dog around as he checked out her room and then the rest of the apartment, making sure he didn't suddenly decide to chew on something. "Do you like my body sprays?" She ruffled his fur again before she followed him out of her room and sat down on the couch, leaning against the arm of the chair. She was suddenly very tired, still a little shaken from the boy's flirting a little earlier. She just wasn't used that at all. Not that she terribly minded but she had no idea how to react and felt like an idiot for freezing up the way she did. Maybe if she talked to him later he'd understand. Turning her thoughts back to the god she looked him over and pursed her lips. "What if I called you fluffy? hm? No? I suppose not..." She chuckled again.

Fluffy? Niko raised a disbelieving brow. His knees were just about up to the couch so he walked onto the cushions and plopped next to her, hoping for another ear rub. To emphasize his point, he twitched his ears. Sounds from surrounding apartments drifted in one ear and out the other; music, talking, shuffling, some banging or another. How could humans stand it? The woods where he had made his den were normally quiet except for the occasional creatures, other demons trailing the woods, and howls from his pack. Of course there were the demon cities but Niko never cared to travel into them most of the time.

The moment the dog flopped next to her on the couch, Promise reached for him. Draping an arm around his neck she pulled him closer and just relaxed as she petted his ears, rubbing them down and running her fingers through the fur around his head. "yeah I know not fluffy..." She hummed softly in contentment, dropping for forehead down to rest against his as she hugged him close. She had needed this, this silent companionship and understanding. It had been a while since she'd really ever hung out with someone out side of class, and being to socially awkward as she was it was hard for her to seek out friendship. "You are a wonderful dog you know that?" she grinned and pressed a gently kiss to his head her hands moving back up to rub his ears once more as she leaned back.

Even coming from a human, the compliment elated his mood. Would she still feel the same if she knew he was a wolf demon and not a dog at all? Niko pushed the thought away, content to ignore it. It would be easy to pass as a dog for quite a while and he was content to do just that; enjoying every minute of being able to explore the humans more closely and get all the pets he wanted. And the food. He most definitely wanted to taste more of the food. His large ears perked up when there was a ruckus coming from outside. A low grumble escaped his throat although he realized non of the humans outside would hear it. As long as they stayed outside...

Promise heard the ruckus out side of her apartment door before there was a loud knock and a muffled cry of her name. Recognizing the voice instantly, she shuddered and shrunk visibly in her seat before forcing herself up and over to the door. Biting her lips and letting out a shaky breath she opened the door a crack, looking out at the haggard man standing there swaying slightly from his own inebriation. "Hello father..." She said dully. "What are you doing here?"
"Promise!" he slurred slightly, surprisingly more sober than she thought he was. "I came to see you of course!" He pushed the door open forcing her back quickly enough to catch her off guard and make her loose her footing a little.
"I don't like it when you come over unannounced.... If I hadn't skipped class today I wouldn't have even been here..." She frowned.
"You skipped class?" The old man straightened suddenly his eyes hard as he gave his daughter a disapproving look.
Promise shrunk back, fear and hurt rising in her chest at the look her father was giving her, her eyes snapping to his hands watching his movements carefully as she backed up hurriedly.

The sour stench of sweat and alcohol permeating from the man's pores reached Niko's nose before the man reached the door. He could see the tiny beads of sweat forming above Promise's brow, yet invisible to the human eye, the way her breathing became more rapid, her pupils growing larger, the tension in her muscles when she moved. Just in those few seconds, Niko's anger flared at this man who was a terrible excuse for a father. This was his daughter and yet he treated her as less than his next prey. He snarled, pouncing between father and daughter, watching the fear behind her eyes. Lay one finger on her, he thought, his eyes glowing silver as he showed the tips of his fang teeth in warning. This was the reason most other races despised humans; despite how much he may dislike certain members of his pack, where they in danger, he wouldn't hesitate to protect them. The same went for him were he in any sort of real danger. Humans didn't hesitate to turn against their own flesh and blood.
