"What do you have there?" laughed Angel. "Another child's toy?"

Niko growled as he changed into his wolf form, grabbing what the humans had called a manga book in his mouth and running off to his den. Not because he was annoyed with Angel's incessant mocking of his collection of human items; rather he wanted to sit and read without being disturbed. No doubt Angel would go back to her posse to tell of their latest meeting and spite him behind his back. Her parents named her Angel because her hair was pure white and her eyes were a striking blue. On rare occasion, Niko would offhandedly call her "devil" just to watch her milk colored skin turn red and watch her try to regain her composure. He was beyond their petty games though and simply wanted to be left alone. Once he was back at his den, he sat against the wall and ran a hand through his silver hair.

On a whim, he left the Underworld and appeared in a forest in the human world. Although he always made sure to be hidden from humans, this time he heard quite a number of them just a few miles away. Some were laughing, others crying. Oddly, it didn't sound like a town or a city. There weren't many cars that he could hear or the distinct smell of grimy air. Curious, he transformed into his wolf form and followed the sounds. When he caught a quick glimpse of a building, he slowed and sniffed for any recent human tracks. As he padded closer he could see a cluster of buildings and young humans with books, bags, lunches, and some had the most colorful hair he had ever seen. Interesting, he thought. His silver eyes settled on a group of four who were sitting on a grassy patch laughing and laying in skimp clothes before moving along to other humans who were throwing a flying disk back and forth. Niko found a comfortable patch of ground and laid down, observing.

The screeching of tires and a blast of a car horn broke Promise Jones from the book she was reading and made her look up at the street in front of her, spotting the offending car askew in its lane and the driver yelling out the window at the student who had tried to cross the street. Sliding her book mark into place she shrugged and hit the cross walk button again, smiling as the light turned red and she was able to head over to the collage grounds. crazy drivers was an every day thing at Green Dale University, which was why she didn't drive. She ran a hand through her short brown hair and looked about the lawn seeing if she knew anyone sprawled out on the ground. She didn't of course, her usual study group friends never on campus this early, but she always checked anyway.

As she walked farther onto the campus she spotted the white furry dog sitting and watching the groups of people and she became curious. It wasn't odd for people to bring their pets to the small park like area in front of the main building, but it was odd the this one didn't seem to have an owner or dog tags. "Hey boy..." She said in a soft voice walking over to him and crouching a few feet away not wanting to startle him. "You here all alone?" She asked and held a hand out politely knowing it was smart to let an animal smell you first before touching it.

Niko jumped to all fours and took a few steps back, mentally cursing himself. He had been so absorbed in watching the humans he didn't hear this one sneak up on him. Never having been this close to a human before, he stared at her awkwardly not understanding what it was she expected him to do. Actually, it was rather surprising to him that this girl would even approach him. A small breeze blew past and he caught a whiff of her scent. She smelled like a human but there was more. A sweet smell. Curiously, he took a few steps closer trying to identify what the scent was.

Promptly he took a few steps back again. What was he thinking? He shouldn't be this close to the humans. If they discovered him, who knows what would happen. Or what the other demons would do. This could be a good opportunity to learn more about the humans though. Niko rolled his eyes at himself realizing he was having another internal debate with himself. Not wanting to attract anymore attention, he slowly made his way away from the groups of humans.

Promise pursed her lips at the dog's odd behavior but shrugged figuring it was skittish around humans. "Alright, I wont force you to let me pet you." She cooed at him and dropped her hand before turning back to look at the people around her talking and mingling. She still had a good hour before classes started for the day, so resigning herself to relax in the nice day she pulled her book out again and started to read.

She was soon absorbed into her book once more and let everything around her fade to the background. The dog far out of her mind as she started to read out loud quietly taking to her self as she worked past the complex writings on Chaos theory and how it was applies to weather forecasting. Not something she would normally read, but it was an assignment for class.

Niko smelled the oncoming storm long before any of the humans saw the dark puffy clouds fast approaching. Most of them scattered into the buildings when the wind started to pick up but a few lingered under awnings or thick trees. The human girl that had approached him was still absorbed in her book apparently not noticing the threat of heavy rains. Being curious about her and that delicious scent, he had found a patch of bushes to conceal himself behind and had been watching. He wondered what was so interesting that she failed to notice the fact the other humans had left. Never one to pass up an opportunity, he padded towards her to see what she was reading: nothing that looked interesting to him. Once again he got a whiff of the scent clinging to her skin and subconsciously sniffed a little closer to her while keeping his ears alert for any other humans that might be approaching.

As the wind picked up and the temperature dropped, Promise was slowly pulled out of her book. A sharp breeze pulling the pages out of her hand and making them flutter. Making a slightly frustrated noise as loosing her place, she put the book away and looked up ant around suddenly noticing the dark clouds and the absence of people on the lawn. Frowning and instantly thinking of the dog from before she shifted and looked around. as her head tilted back she spotted the the furry animal close to her elbow and smiled warmly at him. "Hey boy, We should probably find someplace dry to hang out hm?" She laughed softly.

His head tilted to one side as the girl suggested they leave. Were all humans this trusting? A crack of thunder made his ears twitch and he looked towards the approaching storm and then back at the girl. If there was something that came close to annoying him as the constant mocking of the other demons in his pack, it was being drenched. He didn't mind being wet, drenched to the skin was another story. Reluctant to be around more humans but even more curious about this one, he relented to follow her wherever it was she was planning on going.

Gathering her things, Promise quickly stood and gave the sky a frown. She had hoped the weather would have been nicer seeing as the morning had been so beautiful, but it appears she'd be walking home in the rain later on. Shrugging her bag over her shoulder she looked to the dog and let out a sigh. "Alright... I'm not sure if you'll be able to follow me into my class room, but they'll let you in to the lobby at least..." She looked him over before she started to walk, smiling slightly when she noticed he was following her. She'd never had a pet growing up, and although she'd been around animals before, this was still a little thrilling to her.

Once inside she led the animal through a side door to a big sweeping bobby where most of the students who had previously been out side where huddled still talking before class started. Trying to ignore the stares she got for having the large white dog following her, she made her way to a far corner and set her bag on the ground by a chair before sitting and leaning forward. "You going to let me pet you now?" She asked softly reaching out slowly to him.

((sorry this took been super busy with finals! T _ T))

Niko's left ear dropped at the mention of her going to class. What class? he wondered. As he followed her into the building, he memorized each and every human face and their reactions. Some were humorous and some were just boring. Either way, he wasn't interested in those humans. And so he continued to follow his human and sat down when she did. At least, he was dubbing her his for now.

When she reached out to pet him, his ears went back. No human had ever been this close to him before, let alone touch him. But there was that wonderful smell again, close to his nose, tickling his senses. When he felt her hand brush over his fur, it was like the world just melted away for a brief instant until he remembered where he was. Still, he kept an eye out for other and sat enjoying being pet.

[It's okey. Hope finals went well. ^^]

Once her hand met the soft fur with out being bitten, she let out a soft sigh of relief and just decided to enjoy petting him. She dove her fingers into the thick white fur over and over again, gently rubbing his head neck and ears with affection as she watched the other students around her walk to and fro hurrying about for class and other things. "You know it would be good to call you something... though you don't have any tags.. hm..." She shrugged her shoulders and let out a sigh.

She didn't feel like going to class anymore. She was content just to sit and pet the beautiful dog all day. She had always been fond of pets, but she'd never been allowed to have one. The dog following her about was sort of like a dream finally coming true for her. After a while she pulled him close and nuzzled the fur on top of his head for a split second before she stood. "Alright, I don't want to go to class anymore... let's go get lunch..."

Niko's ears perked up at the word "lunch". He had always wanted to try human food but hadn't ever been able to figure out a way to get the foods that smelled oh so delicious. Without meaning to, he let out a sound of excitement but quickly put his head down as if that would attract less attention. He glanced about but no one seemed to be paying any more attention to them as they had been a few minutes ago. Niko let out a sigh of relief and stood up, leading her out of the building.

It had started to rain but, hopefully it wouldn't penetrate too deeply through his coat. This way he wouldn't be soaked if he transformed. Just a little damp. Not knowing where it was they were getting lunch, but hoping nonetheless that there were no people around, he waited for the human girl to take the lead.

Chuckling softly at the dog's odd but excited behavior at the mention of food, she stood and gathered her things once more going over a mental list of were they could go that was close, and then she could afford. Deciding on a simple deli a half block down, she pushed out into the fresh air and shivered as a cold breeze hit them. "Well we better hurry before it starts to pour..." She quipped and jogged out into the light drizzle.

it didn't take them long to get to the Deli in question, and soon they where back in a warm building away from the rain that was really starting to come down. Sighing with content, she ordered her usual deli club sandwich with chips and then made her way to a table letting the dog follow her about. The restaurant had an open pet policy being so close to a park and few looked twice at the white fluffy dog that was at her heels.

As they entered the deli, the first thing Niko tried to do was identify all the different scents of food that were overwhelming his nose. Instantly he knew which scents were meats but there were other odd things: salty, milky, human, sweet, sour, just plain odd. He wanted to try them all. It was interesting to him that humans didn't find and catch their own food like most demons did. He wondered if his human knew any of the other humans that were here. Since none of them said anything to her, he guessed not.

Once she sat down, he sat down opposite her at the table which came up to his chest. Out of all the food on his humans plate, the chips interested him the most. Not because of the smell but, because of the way they were in a little bag.

"Hey, Promise," a muscular human boy said, leaning onto the table with a smiled. "How's it goin'? Don't you normally have class now or ya playin' hooky?"

The fur on the back of Niko's neck began to rise as he watched the human boy. The only thing he liked right now, was that he learned her name; other than that, something about the human boy made him very uneasy. He watched with his silver eyes nearly glowing.

Promise had just been about to take a bit of her sandwich when the boy came up and leaned over her, making her jump when he spoke. "O-oh... uhm..." She stuttered a moment putting the food down and pressing her hands nervously onto the table. "I didn't feel like going..." Her cheeks turned read and she tugged out a piece of meat from the sandwich holding it out to the dog.

She wasn't used to guys hitting on her like this, she made it a goal to stay under the radar. Glancing up at him she tried to figure out how he knew her, maybe they had a class? but she didn't recognize him right away and her eyes crinkled in concern. "C-can I help you with something though?" She asked trying hard not to just ask him to leave, even though she felt uncomfortable with him leaning so close like he was.
