With her words he felt a wave of calm come over him, like a fine mist in the hot sun of the dunes. She seemed to not care of his lineage, his mother, though she did not know his mother was that of rage.
He feared...with the nergui at their borders, just beyond, someone planning, if they struck again, if rage was felt..if she'd come here.
He feared if she came to find them.
He feared if his mother would hurt them...the pride, Naar.
As she tucked her head under his chin, he curled himself around her closing his eyes, breathing in his scent, almost feeling her heartbeat with his in time, like two drum beats dancing.
Ryujin knew then he would protect her from anything.
The nergui.
HIs mother.
If it ever came to be...even himself.
But he was plain, his mother had said, pure, lacking of anything. But he had built upon it, as his siblings did regardless of their markings, the supposed curse. They had found a new home, families...love.
He whispered that word, softly into her ear, very softly so that even the wind wound not be able to hear. "that is what you make me feel," he said softly, after the singular, powerful word.
He pulled back a little, to look down into her face, her eyes, and he smiled, "and I will protect you...and feel that for you, everyday of my life."
Ryujin wondered if he had said too much, but, he could not be certain. He only hoped she felt the same, or near there, so that he knew his roots indeed were settled deep, and he'd defend with every fiber of his being for everything here.

As he moved in closer to her she felt a silent purr vibrate in her chest. She tried to hold it back - afraid that it might not be appropriate - but to be close to him filled her with joy and with him she'd come out of her shell. She was no longer the nervous wreck she had once been. Well, she was still a nervy creature but at least now she had found the strength to tackle it. Old Naar would have dropped her rank and demoted herself back to huntress. Old Naar would have hidden in her den whilst the war games were going on. And though she had been nervous and afraid about taking on a new role or taking part in something that involved so many fierce lions.
Ryujin was her rock.
And then he whispered that word, so quiet and soft that she hardly believed she had heard it. She pulled away from him as he did from her, her eyes wide and disbelieving. Did he meant that? Did he truly mean it?
For a moment her throat was closed up and she couldn't speak and then, somehow, she managed to get out a response. "Really?" She felt tears brimming in her eyes and she was shaking despite the fact that she was not afraid or sad.
"I love you too."
And those were the most perfect words in the world and suddenly everything felt just right.
She only hoped that this wasn't a dream. Or if it was, that she would never wake up from it.

For a moment he didn't know if he had made her sad, and he felt gutted, but as she seemed to be happy, responding saying the words as well, he nodded, and stepped closer to her again, standing close, his head atop hers and he purred. "I do, really, truly," and he meant every word.
"No matter what happens here, now or within the future, I will always love you and protect you, Naar."
He felt so happy then, content, standing, curling around her some, and he sighed, a smile on his maw.
The worries in his heart were fading.
And it felt just right right here with her.
