I have one tool sting tribute(third eye open), a tool piano tribute, and an apc string tribute(pet). They are all from vitamin records..so, yeah.

I pretty much like them all, the piano tribute takes pretty much all of the songs a bit too slow for my liking.

Sometimes, the lack of percussion is annoying....like in "the grudge"..there is an important rythm that really builds up the intensity (from quarters, to 8ths, to triplets, then 16ths in the bass drum...if I remember right..it is something like that) but it isn't there..the bassist could have tapped on the body of his bass to fix that though.

Somtimes, I am quite dissapointed in the interpretation skills of the lead violinist, I suspect he/she doesn't really listen to tool. The Cellist, and viola..maybe 2nd violin? really get how to play the vocal parts. The lead violinist leaves out important bends, places where maynard breathes, and stuff that is easily heard if they just listened... sometimes pitches are changed, that truly gets on my nerves...

sometimes when they add effects to the violin (I think in aenima??) it sounds almost right on! and that made me happy.

I previewed a baroque tribute to tool, actually did sound amazing. It kept the intensity in the music. The sound was much bigger and had the percussion lines, along with (from what I heard) correct notes in the vocal parts. I shall be picking up that one soon...

Yeah I heard the Ænima string tribute, and I thought it was excellent. Not having - well, you know, drums, vocals, distortion, all of that- it helps captures the sort of... dark feeling of the music and allows you to pay more attention to the melody and construction of the songs. Heh, I think I'm making sense... I thought it was pretty good.

I got Third Eye Open, but I haven't listened to it yet. Also got The Piano Tribute to Nine Inch Nails, which sucked so much, I ended up deleting it. It takes a lot to ******** up a piano tribute.
