((buried in paperwork...
and this is the light myria!?! gonk ))
PostPosted: Thu Jun 14, 2007 11:40 am

And if the piles of paperwork she could not (or would not) delegate were not enough of a problem, there were the nobles, awakened from their timeless slumber and eager to curry favor and spread intrigue...
And to see her budding young highness wed that there might be a strong throne in the dreamy land.
To that purpose, several of the young popinjays had taken it upon themselves to lighten her mood, while the wiser, calmer, older Lords (whose lands were lacking eligible sons) sought out Princes from 'neighboring' nations. Most persistent of these young men was His Highness Thourough, from Ellidiabred: a faery realm housing the Elves that fled the world of Man. He was handsome. He was polite. He was eloquent. He was the best of the prospective suitors and had the vote of most of the land... provided their own sons failed.
He was an a**.
Oh, it wasn't that he lacked in courtesy, or was unkind or any such thing.
He simply had the most condescending air, a habit of thought that put Her Highness beneath him, for she was necessarily weaker. It wasn't just her, either. He was so confident in his ability, that he made light of their great battle to save the land. Even Aren--quiet, silent, shadow-steeped Aren, who moved like a mouse where once she prowled a lioness--had lashed out at him. Fire that made sane men tremble evoked an indulgent chuckle, and a scimitar-tongue received, of all things, a pat on the head before he strolled away.
He had the vote of the Lords indeed, but of the warriors who fought beside her Majestic Highness... He had nothing from those who thought but scorn and bitter loathing.

Jasae happily left the kitches with a plate full of cookies of various types and two jelly donuts
he walked down the halls whisteling a tune and after a while broke into song
"im in the money! im in the money!
du du du du du da da da da daaa"
he was so happy over his successful cookie raid that he was not even bothering to pay atention to where he was going

or to be more accutate where ghost kitty was manuevering him
he wore a duck bill and was dressed like some old cartoon bunny hunter
our adorable little feline held up a sign

ghost kitty insidiously threw a bannana peel in front of jasae

jasae was happily walkng down the hall with a ginger cookie in his mouth when he slipped on the bannana peel and began sliding down the hall
"waaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"
jasae bumped into some stranger which sent his cookies flying
"my cookies! come back to me!"

without jasae noticing ghost kitty dressed in a commando uniform lept up grabbing the tray and saved every last cookie
he placed the tray in jasaes hands and ran back into the hat

jasae laughed
"the cookies have been saved! huzzah!"
jasae looked around
"what happend to the donuts?"

if jasae had looked up he would see the two dounts had connected with the strange man he ran into
one landed right on his head with the gooey stuff dribbeling down
and the other somehow managed to get him square between the eyes as if delibratly thrown by an errant ghost (kitty) on a mission

ghost kitty held up a sign out from under jasaes hat
He He He He He He He

There was utter silence.
A cold wind blew through the halls, drawn by the void of sound.
The donut slid off the man's face.
Splat
One large, elegant hand lifted and swiped the goo from the admittedly handsome face with an imperious flick.
And then the Nobility faltered under his actions.
He grabbed the Muse by his shirt and dragged him down to his eye level, face reddening with rage.
Splat
The other donut fell off his head.
"What the hell do you think you're doing, you ignorant son of a common slut? Do you- no... Peasants never know." He shoved the taller man away, foot hooked to trip, lip curled in a sneer. "Base born scum."
And he stepped in the donut and fell, landing on his back.
for a moment, there was quiet, and then he began shouting furious incoherent nonsense, thrashing like an energetic turtle trapped on its back.

Ghost Kitty scurried away to the castle barracks dressed as captain of the guard and held up a sign
"Alright men! we shall begin drills so that we can help the saviors fight against the darkness in the future!
i want you all to fill your ears with cotton, grab your filthiest muddiest boots and follow me in laps within the castle halls!"

"yes sir!" the men salute
10 minutes later the sound of a dozen pairs of feet marching in sync could be heard as the castle guard marched through the halls of the castle heedless to the fowl language as the marched across mister elegant turtle on back

jasae who was thrown against the wall picked up his tray of cookies
"i think ill find aren so we can share!"
without noticing the guy jasae walked on the noble as he left to once again search for aren

ghost kitty ran over and doodled a french mustache apon the fellow that would last for days and ran off to catch up with jasae oblivious muse
"i like it here"

Kikuka
Captain

PostPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:27 pm

It had been a while since the Princess had set a foot outside of her dreary tower. The lock on her door twisted and she pulled the door open to reveal the spiraling stair that brought her down from her prison of paper work. She had figured it be time that she came down for a bit, rather than remain where she was.

Kikuka gracefully descended the twining stair, her silk emerald green gown, with its edges trimmed in black -mourning for her mother- draped over the stone stair as she walked, more purposefully than she felt. Under her skirts she wore black, lace up boots with a small heel, to aid in her issue of height. Her pale blue-purple hair was pulled up into a curly up-do, her bangs curled around her face.

After a perilously long walk down the stone steps she entered one long hallway of the castle, lit by large bay windows set in the stone to provide a view out over the country side. Here in the light, the black circles under her eyes were more prominent on her pale face, her eyes and brow creased with constant worry. She kept her fingers laced lightly together before her as she turned to look out the window, green eyes drearily searching for something over the vast, map like landscape. Her waist seemed to have shrunk in the time she'd been in her office. For all they tried to keep her eating no one could force the to-be queen.

Since the battle the Princess had spent much time, looking and searching out the windows throughout the palace. She turned and kept walking quietly down the hall, her head turned to look out the windows rather than where she went. As she turned a corner of the hallway, curses and yells and other unfit language met Kikuka's ears as she looked deftly away from the window and farther down the hall. One of the men who'd come to court her was there, covered in icing, Jasea hopping away down the other end of the hallway.

She wasn't quite sure she wished to meet this nasty sounding man. Her green eyes gaze flicked to the man as she silently passed and then back out the windows, pausing now or then to enjoy a particular view. She didn't pause long, however, not wishing the man to catch up with her.

Now where was Aren. She wished to talk to her only remaining female savior.

The fellow made no move to speak to Her Highness, but he did fall silent. It wasn't until she was past that he rose and, muttering dire curses under his breath.

As for finding Aren?
The scent of baked or baking goods was generally the best indicator of where the dark Savior of Dreams lurked. The changes to her appearance were not as drastic as Kikuka's own, but there were similarities.
Not dark circles, but dark eyes. Not tiny waist, but thinner.
Aren had survived the Darkness...
...but it seemed almost as if the darkness had survived in her.
That wasn't exactly true, it was more, as it had once been put, that one simply couldn't face that kind of darkness and remain unchanged. Aren lived with Nightmare at her back, but the Darkness... it had quenched some part of her that the essence of fear never had. It had stained some glass through which her fire glowed through, damping it out to a dim glimmer.
So she claimed the kitchen, and supplied her over-burdened young-but-old friends with food and treats, and did her best to remain unseen.
Perhaps it was guilt. Guilt that hers had been the hands to wreak such havoc, and hers the temporary vessel for the Shadows. Hers the hubris to take on something so clearly meant to be battled by the team...

After having checked all the usual hiding places for the Dreams Savior, the Princess tried one last place before she resigned herself back up to her tower. Aren had always been the cook among them, Kikuka made her way softly through that cold halls toward the kitchen, in hopes that maybe she could talk to someone other than herself. Plus, the two hadn't truly spoken in a long while. Kiku really hadn't spoken to anyone, even Jekk. Jasea couldn't even make her smile or laugh with his and his shadow's humorous antics.

The homely scent of warm baked breads and sweet things met with the Princess' nose, even this far from the kitchen. Aren must have been hard at work. Warm air drifted out of the kitchen door as Kikuka neared. The stone hallways could get cold, the kitchen was the one place it was nice to walk barefoot on the flagstones. But Kiku did not do this now as she let her small form block the kitchen door, watching Aren's back as she shuffled around working.

It was a while before Her Majesty spoke. "Have you all been busy?" It was a simple question, quiet and hushed on her warm, mellow voice. Yet, there was something more than a greeting carried under the tone of the question. A year of lost conversations were implied and forgotten. Kikuka kept her face all but blank of her gentle gaze. She leaned her petite form against the door frame, looking casual and relaxed, rather than the stiff and forbidding look she used when she was forced to deal with the gathering nobility in the palace. On the saviors even saw or knew of her lighter side.

The young woman turned, fixing shadowy eyes on the Queen-to-Be, her appearance solemn even with the oven mitts and flour-dusted apron, a tray of muffins or cupcakes still hot in her hands. Aren quietly set the tray on a cooling rack, closed the over door, and shed her protection from the heat.
"Everyone," she replied quietly, in the voice of one who had seen to many things to speak lightly with ease. Had she been her self of old, she would have asked the petite princess why, when they were the ones who defeated the darkness, when they had banished it to the hottest depths of hell, did they all slink about, cowled and timid in their own hold?
But she did not. She did not even imply the question.
Her dark gaze rested on her dear friend a moment longer, and then she asked, "Muffin?" as she drew a knife to free the little baked goods from their cups, her eyes on Kikuka as she worked.
Had Aren been her self from before, she would have dragged Kiku to a stool and made her sit and eat and take a load off. This Aren did not. She only implied that the much smaller girl should eat something, and made a mental note to do something about the girl's falling weight. Kikuka had no weight to spare: she was already so light she could blow away in the slightest puff of breeze.

Muffins were not the only thing available: there was a great deal that had been cooked within the last few hours, most of it sitting in tidy bundles on the counter, awaiting the Savior of all Dreams but her own to complete whatever else remained so that it could be taken down to villages that struggled to care for their own, along with medicines distilled and herbal blends. She was a silent benefactor, kind as ever, but so subdued in her dealings with people.

Kikuka met Aren's eyes briefly, searching in their darker depths. With the simple offer of 'muffin?', the princess stepped forward, away from the wall, and accepted the offered baked good. She tore a piece off the side of the still warm sweet bread and nibbled it slowly, her gaze moving downward, back towards the floor.

She didn't eat quickly, simply tore off small pieces, nibbling at it until it disappeared from her fingers. The princess only ate a small section from the muffin till she stopped, and hence proceeded to just watch it, and turn it in her fingers.

As she did so she stepped back toward the wall and lent back again, not quite sure what to ask next, what to look at, what to say. She turned the muffin in her hands again, looking at it.

After a while, her soft voice passed from beneath her curly bangs that shielded her face from view. "Understandable. Everyone has been working hard to rebuild after that fight. We're still fighting even now." She shrugged, and with her free hand brushed a curl away from her cheek. "Everyone else gets to work with the people, while I have to stay in the castle, doing the paper work, the legalities of rulership." Her voice turned angry, but not angry with anyone other than herself and the clutch that her birth held her to.

"Noblisse oblige," Aren quoted quietly, her dark eyes studying the princess as the princess studied her half-eaten muffin. "But the obligations of royalty are not only to rule... It would do the people good to see their uncrowned queen."
Her voice issued softly from her throat, slipping between her lips like a wisp of air. It was so soft... but under the softness was a touch of quiet certainty. Her field of study in the world of the Waking had been Medieval: literature, politics, government... She had absorbed it all and eagerly learned more before the calling and between their first failure and the second summons. Kikuka's place was with the people. She should not be isolated by walls of parchment and bars of ink...

A year ago, Aren would have grabbed Kiku in a rough hug around the shoulders and told her she was going to help deliver these goodies whether she liked it or not.
Before the battle lost and won, she would have grabbed her by the hand and gone hunting every last Savior who remained, rounding them all up and turning the small affair into an Event.
In times past, she would have smiled.
But Aren could not bring herself to do as she should have done, to thrust bundles in the Princess's arms and push her ahead out the door. She could not push the words to fall from the tip of her tongue.

"You have to love the invisible ink..." chuckled Jekk as he slid into the room, pausing only twice on his way in. Once, to guide his wooden leg around the door, and again to scoop the package off of the counter.
"Looks like the chef has a secret admirer."
The captain of the guards' capable hands exchanged the wrapped package for a muffin from the counter.
"Be careful, Aren. Who knows how tighty Musey squashed the plushie in there?"

A soft grin curled the corners of his lips as he leaned against the wall next to the one he loved more than life.
"You look pale. Ink stains don't become you as well as sunlight and breeze."
He leaned in for a quick kiss before biting a chunk out of the muffin that was only slightly too large for him to consume easily.

The princess looked over at the parcels stacked on the counter, all bound to head out of the castle to the villages and towns around the castle. She knew she shouldn't ask and force herself on Aren, but Kikuka could not contain herself.

"Aren, Aren please, you have to get me out of the castle. I can't take it here anymore, but the guards won't even let me out to the wall." She was nearly begging, stepping meekly toward the Dreams Savior. "I'm pleading with you, I need a day outside the walls!" Her face was grim, her eyes begging puppy-like with Aren.

It was while she was doing this that Jasea bounded so carelessly into the kitchen. The lady Kikuka stumbled back to lean carelessly against the stone door frame. She just touched the tips of her fingers together to dangle before her. Her partially eaten muffin was set on the counter, where her eyes rested on it still. But a little pop of color drew her emerald green eyes up to where the wrapped gift materialized on the kitchen counter.

Jasea, he was always on the move with his good cheer. But however Kiku wished to smile at it, her face restricted the movement and she was resigned to let his silliness warm her heart.

While she reflected on that thought, her face still in shadow, Jekk entered the kitchen. Now all her saviors were in the room with her. She felt something, somewhere within her relaxing as she finally felt safe again.

Kikuka tilted her head dreamily to the side as Jekk chuckled at Jasea's left gift, commenting on the promised plushie explosion. Her green eyes lit up slightly behind a sweep of curled bangs. Though her face and lips still remained still, her heart was no longer weeping. The castle could hardly be seen as a cage when this group surrounded her.

Something about ink and breeze brought the Princess from her little thought and daydream as much as the light touch of a kiss on her cheek. She glanced down at her hands, indeed marked and blotted with quill ink. She turned her head slightly to glance at him, following his movements with her eyes more than larger movements of her head. Very inconspicuously she raised one eyebrow at Jekk. As if silently grinning at him and greeting him with her normal chipper.

Suddenly her mind connected her previous plead of Aren and Jekk's mention of breeze. "Aren, they don't even let the shutters open fully in my office and rooms. It's as if they fear I'll throw myself out them. I've not had proper breeze for a year. I've not seen Dove, nor anyone else for that matter." She glanced back at Jekk, being captain of the guard she feared asking Aren for this favor in front of him. He was protective, he might forbid her from leaving. Instead, Kiku sent Aren the message with her eyes, pleading and begging to help her get out of the castle.
