My first time cosplaying was at PortCon Maine '04. I did two and a half cosplays (the last was a closet cosplay, which I didn't consider "real").
On the first day, I was Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi. My costume was very nice... the pinkish robe with green and blue detailing, and brown pants. It was very well-made, if I do say so myself. Which I do - my mom made it. xd
On the second day, I was Haku from Naruto. Wearing the costume he always wears; everything was homemade - even the Ninja Headband with the engraved symbol for the Mist Village was handmade by my brother! It's a lovely, lovely costume, which I have to use again sometime soon...
The third day brought my "closet cosplay" based on an artbook image of Tsuzuki Asato from Yami no Matsuei. 3nodding It wasn't bad, but no one recognized it - though they did recognize my friend, who was cosplaying Watari. xd Needless to say, the cosplay was discontinued, and I won't be wearing it anymore to cons.
Those were my first cosplays... I wish I had pics to show off, but people at cons with cameras hate me for some reason... crying

Only one person took a picture of me (intentionally: I accidentally stepped in front of many a camera lens and blocked out the group) at the con. sweatdrop Some grungy-lookin' guy.

Same here. We didn't count but seriously we'd stop, someone would take our picture and then two seconds another person would, two more second later... yeah you get the point. Of course our costumes SUCKED and were super ghetto, but we were two relatively cute (not hot but not bad) girls in matching short dresses, wigs and wings... so yeah. Still it was the BEST ego boost. Between the guy asking to get his picture taken WITH us and the little girl wanting to get her picture taken with us (SO CUTE!) my sister and I left that con with the best feeling. ^^ Haven't topped it yet b/c every year after that I actually tried to put something together and was never just "cute" or "sexy" or whatever. I've actually AVOIDED doing an OC costume of mine because the character herself is sort of... a tramp assasin and I don't want to be accused of dressing as her just to get attention.

That happened to me and Ekoja too. We did Mousse and Shampoo, back when Ranma was much more popular. Everyone thought it was so cute that we'd "gotten together" in character. This was only a month after we had gotten married and it was great.... I think we managed to beat it once though... of course we were at a much larger con--Otakon. That was the year we did the 3 mages from FF1. We had to plan about two hours in advance for anything at the con because it would literally take us that long to get there because we got so many requests for pictures. That was the con that someone snagged a pic of Ty and he ended up in Animerica magazine. xd

I'm hoping this year will be so much better, the costumes are really starting to look awesome.

I had guys coming up to me asking me to take pictures with me in my Atashi costume at AWA, it wasn't Sexy or anything because I don't do that, it was just cute. My friend that was with me was like half naked and totally hot but they kept asking me... I think she felt bad.

I know the first year my friend felt bad b/c people kept asking for our pictures and not his. Though the past couple years his costumes have been better AND the... year before last I think he won an award for being part of a cosplay group so it all got made up for. I thought I'd be jealous that he won the award (we were going to do a skit but changed our minds when he was asked to participate in another group. we weren't prepared anyway) but I ended up REALLY happy for him. As a jealous person in general I was quite surprised with myself!

I wish some of our friends could be like that (actually there's only one in particular, but I won't name names). They get so mad when someone with much better costumes beats us in cosplay. I'm like, they deserved it. For me, I think it's just fun to get up there in costume and have a great time. I don't really care whether I win anything.

AZ 2002 My first cosplay was Mima from perfect blue. I made my costume out of old ballet outfits that i had laying around. I bought a wig. My costume sucked majorly.
I was with a KiKi from KiKi's Delivery Service (my best friend Liz) Leah my other friend was Duo from Gundam Wing and Summer another friend of mine was Utena
Liz was the only one that actually looked really good. smile

First time I Cosplayed was at Jacon 04' as Chang Wufei from Gundam Wing. Rarely seen him cosplayed and figured hey why not, then it spurred into a hobby after that, of course I enjoyed it ^_~
Animazement will be my second , third and fourth time Cosplaying, since I've never done a three day Con before. Only did Saturday's at Jacon, so yeah this will be a first full fledged Con for me ^____^.
The Cosplay's I'll be wearing are : L-san [[ Death Note ]], Shuichi Shindo [[ Gravitation ]] and Yohji [[ Weiss Kreuz ]]
Technically I like to Cosplay character's that I either A)) Really really like or B)) Rarely see done. ^____^ Guess you call it my habit, but it's fun ^____^

My first costume makes me sad whevener I look at it. XD I wore it for AnimeNEXT in New York in I want to say 2002. I was Misao Makimachi from Rurouni Kenshin. ><; Made the costume in a few months but the braid never came in time for the convention so I went around claiming that Sanosuke had cut my braid off while I was sleeping. xd It went over pretty well with the crowd.
Next year for AZ06 I'm going to go as Paine from FFX-2 though. XD I'm sooo looking forwards to that.

At least you made something for your first cosplay. I just wore a chinese dress and then wrapped some of my hair around some pokeballs (cut in half) and went as Shampoo from Ranma 1/2. Not my favorite character from the series, but my husband went as Mousse. The next year, my first attempt at sewing my own costumes, was incredibly scary... The only real indication that I was supposed to be Aeris was the fact that I had a pink something on that came down just past my knees. xd
