OK everyone post the first time you cos-played here!

and now for the detail crap!
who are what did you cos-play as?
where was it? what con or was it at an anime club? Note Halloween doesn't count!
Did you make your costume? did you buy it? was it a gift?
Cos-play skills, what are your skillz!

As for me I have yet to cos-play so I can't answer but I know many of you have so this is a good way to show off how long you have been cos-playing (and please no discussions leave that for the others I'm looking to make this an intro style thread)

First time cosplayed: Animazement 2000. I dressed as Shampoo from Ranma 1/2... Just wore a Chinese dress my mom had picked up in San Fransisco for me. But I dressed Ekoja as Mousse that year, and I made that costume with help from my mother-in-law. I've been cosplaying ever since then...

AZ 2001: Final Fantasy VII. I did an Aeris costume for me and a Vincent costume for Shaun... These were pretty bad costumes as they were my first ever attempt at sewing by myself. Ty was around for that con, so he went as an infant chocobo.

Otakon 2001: Sailor Moon. I made a Sailor Mars costume for myself. I also made Kunzite and Nephrite costumes for Ekoja and one of his friends (respectively). Ty was Artemis.

AZ 2002: Recycled Sailor Moon costumes... with improvements...Costumes still weren't all that great.

Otakon 2002: Final Fantasy I. I did White Mage, Shaun did Black Mage, and Ty did Red Mage.

AZ 2003: Final Fantasy I. I remade my costume because the first one was made with me being 5-months pregnant. xd It was also white and did not take well to the streets of Baltimore. Ty's red Mage costume was completely redone as well. Luke was there for this con and went as an infant Black Mage. These were by far my best costumes ever.

AZ 2004: Record of Lodoss Wars. I did Karla, Ekoja did Ashram. This was our first attempt at making resin gems, more detailed jewelry and accessories. It was also our first attempt at working on vacuum-form plastic armor. Trigun: probably the costumes for which the boys are the most well known... Ty went as a chibi-Vash, and Luke went as a Chibi-Wolfwood (complete with plushie cross and black and white pacifier with cross b/c as if we're actually going to give a 1-year old a cigarette or even a candy one especially since we don't smoke).

AZ 2005: Debuing (in the Anime Con world) my Eternal Sailor Venus costume (worn at Halloween 2004). The rest of the costumes here aren't finished yet.

I have also made several other commissioned costumes for other people. Pictures of the 2003 and 2004 costumes, my Venus costume, and some of our commissioned pieces can be viewed on our old commission site under the portfolio portion. Here's a link if you want to check it out:

My first "real" cosplay was kinda pathetic. Heh. sweatdrop
I was dressed up as Ryoko Mitsurugi, from Real Bout High School at Otakon 2002. I basically had a Japanese schoolgirl outfit that I bought that was red and white. So, I bought a wig to match her hair, and I also bought one of those wooden swords... I forgot what the Japanese name for it is. sweatdrop I put on some white thigh-highs and black shoes... and that was my cosplay. Hehe. ^_^
I can't sew or anything, so I just have to be creative with what I have. 3nodding

Future Trunks, AZ 2000. The last year it was actually in Raleigh. Most of it entailed things that didn't actually have to be made, such as grey pants, denim jacket, and the shirt that I previously had with the Capsule Corp. logo on the front. Even the sword I picked up from a costume shop. The sheath had to be made, however... But while I picked out the matereal, my mother actually did all the sewing for it. Not that there was much to it.

Kasumi, Ekoja, should I bring out my halloween costume again for AZ for an hour or two?

this will be my first time at a convention and my first go at cosplay too. i'm in the same boat as nekocrouton, i can't sew very well, but i am good with make-up and things of that nature so i'm gonna incorporate that in it somehow. (and people always said i was wasting my time watching all of those low budget horror movies! hah!)

I dressed up as a blond Kagome for Spirit Week at school. The homecoming game was the day after Halloween and Halloween was declared Hero Day. I was the only one in that school who dressed up. 3nodding It was kinda cool. Even though the costume was hideous.

Aside from Halloween, the first time I cosplayed was last year at AZ. I dressed up as Komugi from SoulTaker and wandered from the dealer's room and back to the videogame room. xp I didn't read my map until I was halfway back home. So I missed out on a lot.

And with a larger audience, there might be people who actually know who the Cheese is. Well, was.

The first time I cosplayed since you said Halloween doesn't count (but I had a tiny pic in a magazine for that one damnit!) I was Marie from Boku no Marie... I was either Marie or Mari... I was the "real" one. I also did an original character Finiky, a Matrix parody character. (My sister was Twitch and Todd was Meeow.)

It was at Animazement 2000

That time was all found stuff, though my sister made the ears and tails for the cat outfits. I can't sew except for adding details so I generally just find stuff. I've only commissioned one costume so far.

And I have ZERO cosplay skills! Unless patience counts... because I will SEARCH for the perfect article of clothing for a costume. But seriously, I can't sew, can't do makeup very well, can't style hair... I just have fun. *L*

I've never actually done a sketch before. ninja I couldn't think up one for a Lone Komugi and didn't feel like getting up in front of everyone alone just to show off the craptacular costume.

Mr Tim, my former drama teacher, told me I was a pretty good actress though. sweatdrop

first unofficial.... halloween... i was 16 and was Sailor Jupiter.

first official...... AZ 03' i was Faye Valentine (it was also worn at halloween that year)..... i made most of the costume actually found the yellow halter top... it was kinda strange that they actually made something that color for the masses.

2nd (official)....... Freya (chobits)AWA 03' & AZ 04' i made this costume entirely by myself with no pattern and a tiny trading card pic...... (i'll have to post the pics of it later) i was sooo proud of it but in the heat of Memorial day weekend i managed to get heat rash... upholstery vinyl doesn't breath sweatdrop ..... and dispite that i wasn't actually wearing that much it was boiling in the costume.

this year....... AZ 05' I've entirely remade my Jupiter costume (cuz i got hips xd lol) and might wear that one most of the time... i've also made a Mahiro (Samurai Deeper Kyo) costume that rox too..... i made that one in like a month i'm most proud of the obi. (and u will all see y when con rolls around)

Hmm....Animazement '05 will be my first con/cosplay, but I just finished my costume. ^___^ I'll be going as Lady Subaru from .hack//sign.
Cosplay skills? Hrm...none really, this was very much a learning experience in making costumes (It was my most elaborate sewing piece yet. 3nodding )

My first cosplay was Precia from Magic Knight Rayearth and the school uniform version of Miyuki-chan at Otakon 01. Those were first of deliberate cosplay. I've always had costumes and things to wear and play in, but those aren't nessecarily cosplay... Let's see... Other costumes include a pink French maid, a cow-girl (like... with ears and a tail... Not a hat or boots...), sailor fuku, an assorment of Colonial outfits (I'm a historical reenactor), Civil War era dress, Alice (or I guess you could call it another Miyuki costume if you want... I wish we got photos of my twin and I eating together on that evening... She was Alex from A Clockwork Orange... So you have Alice and Alex sharing ramen and cookies. xd ) May from Hand Maid May at Tsubasacon 04 (the very first anime con in WV!), and... I'm trying to remember what else... Yeah!

the first time i cosplayed was in 2002 at my first time at Animazement. Heres a picture of my costume. User Image
The costume was awesome, too bad I looked like CRAP... I was only 13. And my cosplay skit involved walking on stage, spinning and walking off.
