A CGI Norse Mythology movie would be great. I could just imagine Yggdrasil now. Oh how magestic it could be, scratch that they could make an entire CGI serise. I wish they would. 3nodding

The realism would be insane. The twisting branches and the mere majesty of it would strike awe into many. Not to mention put a few extra dollars into the producers pocket. whee

One thing I'm wondering about is, would they concentrate on the gods, or would they show some side stories?

If, by chance they show Ragnarok, could you imagine on how grand a scale they could make it?

Well, there's an opera based heavily on Norse mythology. It's in German, so unless you speak it, you'll have to read subtitles. It mostly talks about the marriage (or failed marriage) of Brunhilde and Siegfried. It's called Wagner's Ring Cycle. There's a website with clips and such from the opera (complete with subtitles), so it's very nice.

As nice as operas are, I still wish there was a movie though.. sweatdrop

I agree with Peter Jackson being the best to sure the sheer grandeur of some of the sections - Ragnarok in particular.

Note: actually, only the Rohirrim had heavily Germanic/Norse-based culture, as far as I'm aware. The Elves were more Celtic and Icelandic. (Random? Hell, yes.)

The twelve major gods, and the one without a throne, would be more Greek mythology. Was there a twelth god that took hades's place or not?

Buddha-DK
there is made a movie about the Norse gods, its called Valhalla and is a Cartoon, maybe its quite unknown outside Denmark

What IMDB say about Valhalla

I own that movie on DVD! It's hilarious. They captured Loki perfectly, methinks. Thor is pretty funny, but Loki steals the show!

The movie basically revolves around the "Thor and Loki's Adventures in Giant-Land" myth. You know, where Utgard-Loki tricks them into thinking Giants are waaaay tougher than they really are. And Loki doesn't care, he just wants food so he challenges the giants to an eating contest. Haha, good times... good times.

However in the Valhalla cartoon, Loki does have a reason to want to win, and that is Quark. Quark is an annoying troll-child, and whoever loses the constests has to keep Quark.

That movie is based off of a very popular comic book series by Peter Madsen... the most resent to have come out is "The Ballad of Balder," and he promises two more before the end of "Valhalla" comics, "The Wall" (about how Loki sneakily gets a giant to build a wall for the Æsir for free), and "Fimbulwinter" (About, well... the Fimbulwinter).

The DVD has Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and English audio options, and subtitles for all of those as well.

This is Peter Madsen's page about Valhalla:

It turns out that Peter Madsen is posting one page per week from his new comic, "The Wall," until it comes out commercially.

You can read it here: http://www1.jp.dk/valhalla/

I've been reading it every week since #1, and although I was under the impression that this comic would be about the building of the wall around Asgard, so far it's mostly about the beginnings of Ragnarok, and how Frey became smitten with Gerd. And, instead of making his servant go get her for him, it looks like Tjalfe is going to end up doing it xd Oh yea, and apparently Sleipnir is already born... I suppose the story around his conception could be told in flashback-format like "The Gifts of the Gods" was, but who knows.

Oh yea, and following the success of a children's Yule-calender miniseries (it's where one short episode is released each day, from December 1 to December 24, you know... like an adventcalender) called "Jul i Valhal" (Yule in Valhalla), they're apparently making a feature-length movie called "Guldhornene" (The Golden horns). This movie is to serve as a sequel to the miniseries. The premise: Thor, Loki, Idunn, and Heimdall travel to Midgard to get help from three kids to protect the two Golden Horns which are apparently very important. Indeed, if they were to fall into the wrong hands, it could mean the end of mankind.

Here's the teaser trailer: http://www.cosmo.dk/guldhornene/teaser.html

While it looks pretty stupid, I'll admit, I laughed at some of the parts in the trailer. Like the Abbey Road reference, Heimdall violating Loki's personal space, and Heimdall looking like he's playing Wii. Hopefully he's playing Wii. But something tells me that he's just dancing around while holding a remote-control sweatdrop (it was like a running joke for Heimdall to be as dorky and as flaming as possible throughout the miniseries... I wish I was joking about this). I definately won't be seeing this in theatres or anything, but maybe after it comes out on DVD.

I love the idea of seeing people go "Berserker" on the big screen.
