idk if this is the same category, but i've been playing fora couple of years, and i've been using 2 fingers. I got pretty good using my fingers, and i could go a pretty fast speed, but it wasnt enough for me. I decided to try using a third finger, my ring finger that is. However, i just cant get the hang of using it, what do you think i should do?
try this, take your ring finger and tap on the table or what ever, think of it as the #3,then tap 3,2,1,3,2,1.... 2 and 1 being your other fingers, then do a plucking motionand vwoala a new finger to practice with! biggrin

Meh. I guess you could, but it would be better to just use your index and middle finger, and feel the triplet feel with your 2 fingers. Just keep using the 2 fingers to keep a good strong control over everything.

On top of that, I learned from my experiance as a music major that you shouldnt really have to use strength when playing bass. It will actually cause complications in the future such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Instead of using more strength in your fingers, find a way to get a lighter touch on your strings, and using your whole arm to weight down the frets. ALSO because you are not using any strength, you can actually move FASTER. Its just better technique.

(and dont get me wrong, I own one of those finger exercisers, and you are way better off getting into good technique, rather than damaging yourself and wasting your time.)

Escaflowne said it really well. I've been working on my right hand dexterity like crazy for the past few days and I've already noticed drastic improvement. Play songs like Ramble On and Good Times Bad Times by Led Zeppelin and focus on really using every other finger, make sure you don't ever use the same finger to pluck multiple strings. Also I like to play scales in 3rds making sure I alternate my fingers, those exercises have helped me out a ton. If you play with good technique speed will come in time. Playing with as little movement as possible really helps tighten up techniqu.
