Two questions: Do they actually, like, do anything? And, if one were to buy one, would you recomend medium or heavy?

Yes, actually after awhile of doing it you'll be able to hold down your strings better and i'd suggest the medium to start and move onto the the heavy one after about a month of straight medium tension or actually 3 weeks if you see better improvement

There's only extra-light, light, and medium as far as I can see, so I'll assume you mean "light" instead of medium, and "Medium" instead of heavy. sweatdrop

i've actually seen heavy but than again it could of been a miss print or i was miss reading. But I have a medium tension one and it helps especailly since i cut the nerve on one of my fingers.

I would say that these are there for people who have trouble fretting the strings and just can't get a clean note. Or someone who has had damage done to their hand. I've never used one, but then again, I have a strong grip naturally.

I've seen the exercise stuff for your hands before, but there's something else I'd personally consider. I just checked www.musiciansfriend.com and it doesn't look like they have it anymore, but there's a product that's called finger weights or something like that. It's like putting a ring on your finger but it doesn't go all the way down, it's just sorta in the middle, out of the way of your finger pads, but far enough out for you to feel them there. The idea is you practice with those, and when you play without them it'll all feel much easier. If I remember right, you can change the amount of weight on them too.

idk if this is the same category, but i've been playing fora couple of years, and i've been using 2 fingers. I got pretty good using my fingers, and i could go a pretty fast speed, but it wasnt enough for me. I decided to try using a third finger, my ring finger that is. However, i just cant get the hang of using it, what do you think i should do?
