I'd bring the Diablo series (Richard A. Knaak does really good for that series..),
Invasion by Robin Cook (very good book, didn't want to ever close it.. I almost cried when I finished it..),
and Harry Potter 5 (I just finished book 4 after years of trying to finish it.. I just need to start on book 5..)

..That would be my list..

Such a dilemma... okay, I'll try to narrow it down to three books.

The Good Earth
Imajica
Gone with the Wind

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien, I could read it over and over again and never get tired of it. It's so nice and long too.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R.Tolkien

The Bible.

1. "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie--I just borrowed that from the library and it's been great thus far.

2. Kamo-no-Chomei's "Ten Foot Square Hut" and all else that he wrote, because for some reason that just hypnotizes me.
Actually, I might get Spenser's "The Faerie Queene" instead. That's always interesting...

As for the third, I really don't know. XD; I know that even with this selection, I'll be bored within a year, because I can read a book (or several) only so many times before falling asleep. Even if said book is as great an allegory as "The Faerie Queene". So, for my third, I'd probably follow the lead of so many who have posted here by bringing along a series consolidated into one book. Or maybe some more poetry (Hindu?). Or, actually, some ethnographical journals...

I'm not sure, but they'd have to be happy books...not too depressing, 'cause after all, I'm already stranded on a deserted island... wink .

But only three books!? I can't live like that!!

I'd Bring:
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide (that one seems to be a favourite)
The Best of Mercedes Lackey (including the Elemental Mage books and several of the Valdemars plus a bunch of short stories) <<---(note: Does not actually exist to my knowledge. I wish.)
Tips and Tools for Survival: Featuring 'Extensive Treehouse in Three Easy Steps!' 'Fun in Foraging for Food!' and 'How To Make a Signal Flare Out of Sand and Coconut Shells!'

The McCaffrey trilogy that you are speaking of is the Harper Hall Trilogy. (They weren't her first books of the Pern series...) I've read them and her entire Pern series a million times each, I love them. (Erm... btw, her name is Menolly... sweatdrop )

As for the 3 books? Well... That isn't fair as I could never choose just three... Just the thought makes me want to pick up books on how to train myself for long distance swimming and survival swimming.... xd

The Lord of the Rings, the Silmarillion and....probably Lord of the Flies, for reasons stated by Dynite. Or something really long and cryptic, with lots of interplanitary physics and such. That would be cool too.

Wow... that's hard.

I don't think I could pick, but these are the types I might bring:

-Something challenging (maybe in another language) just so I'll probably still be going at them by the time I'm rescued (if ever)
-3 books I'd never read before
-2 book books of some type and 1 empty book so I could write
-3 books I've read over and over and over again
OR
-something else ^_^ ninja
