There is a difference between lycans and werewolves. Lycans are humans with the ability to transform into a wolf of their own will. More common usage has lycans being humans who can change into any animal at will. Werewolves are humans who can not control their transformation, and it tends to follow the lunar cycle. Only die to a lack in attention to detail are lycans the same as werewolves, there is a fine difference.

Now lycanthropy is again a different matter. This also refers to the ability a human has to turn into a wolf, but it also refers to the act of transforming a human into a wolf (the transitive property in action).

These are just hairline differences but many take them very seriously.

A little side note, a friend of mine professes to be a werewolf, but he does not change into a wolf during a full moon (mind you, I don't believe that humans can turn into wolves on this plain), but he experiences major shifts in his moods, and his senses heighten. He tends to be extremely angry, and I tend to avoid him during full moons because we get into a lot of fights, and I hold grudges.

1. A werewolf doesn't always physicaly shift. I would know, I am one. It's almost impossible and no record has been recorded.
2. Lycanthropy is a mental disease and nothing more. Americans changed that.
3. They are more commenly known around the werewolf community as Therians. Not werewolves. Search a little more and maybe you'll have it.

2. Lycanthropy is NOT just a mental disease. You can even look it up on wikipedia.
3. Therians change to ALL animals, not just wolves.
4. I know this because I am a werewolf too and when I became one, I did ALOT of research. Besides, this is a fact or fiction thread so it doesnt matter.
