I think I like her.
Whenever we're together, a smile never leaves my eyes.
I'm not sure when it started, but I'm pretty sure I like her.
And when we part a little voice inside of me sighs.
I'm afraid to think this though, that I like her.
Somehow I'm always thinking of her lovely blue eyes
I'm uncertain as to why, but I'm quite scared to like her.
A faint attraction pulls me, creating invisible ties.
I'm almost sure now, I think I like her.
But to say I love her would be the most terrible of lies.
I'm not brave enough to say I think I like her.
My mind can't get off her no matter how hard it tries.
I think I like her.

Dedicated to the friend who I've just spent the last several hours talking with, and who is going through his first crush. I thought I'd try and capture what he felt in a poem.

Since it's 3:30 am though... I doubt I did.

Inspired by shel silverstein, and written for a friend's Gaiaversary...

Not much, but enough to bother you with.

Untitled #2

You've heard often said that friends are needed....
For long life, happiness, and other things...
Little is said how those friends must be treated...
Or how to keep them through all that life brings...

So hearken closely young one I will tell you now...
A few things only must you do to keep friends near...
To understand them must you sincerely vow...
Laugh when they laugh, when they cry to shed a tear...

For a friend is someone who you may always trust...
A person who to you the truth will always tell...
To be a good friend, your love for them is also a must...
If these things you can do, then you'll keep your friends in life quite well.

Why them?

Is it not beautiful to watch the sun rise...
To see as the sky catches magenta fire...
That's the thing about nature, it never lies...
Never proud, un-sinning, and without desire....

But despite all the majesty of nature's call...
Not a candle can it hold to a friend's smile...
In life to gain everything one must lose all...
The truly happy think only of others all the while...

Ironic that other people must we rely on...
Considering they are the source of our pain...
Happiness comes not our brains or brawn...
Rather, with another's comfort in the rain...

Rain is cold and oft makes us feel alone...
A side of nature we'd rather not see...
Instead we lambast our country and throne...
Giving ourselves a false feeling that we are free...

Freedom is something we ourselves cannot find...
Only by others teaching us can we know...
Because on our own we are ever so blind...
A thousand different eyes it takes the truth to show...

So if both nature and ourselves we cannot trust...
Then this alone, love people we must..
Even though other people will all turn to dust...
Even though for the wrong things they may lust...
They are the only things we should trust.

Proof to myself and someone else that you can indeed be philosophical in poetry. The poem might suffer though biggrin Regardless, this was a part of an argument I made, which involved trust in god, people, spirits of nature, etc... Yes, I make this sort of thing in my spare time.

Mmm...
The "I Think I Like Her" poem is catchy,
And rhymes,
And filled with paradox...
Inside this boy's head...
Or girl for that matter...
Yet still for some reason,
I can't shake off this little bit of..
I don't know, just doesn't seem...

Untitled #2 gives a good lesson,
And rhymes decently.
This one is very important...
I like it a lot...

May I ask who this "someone else" is?
This poem is the best of the three I've reviewed,
So truthful,
So wonderful,
So beautiful...

Undecided

Whispering laughter,
Thoughts to be had,
Driving me crazy,
Neither happy or sad,

Dancing in circles,
Whipping about,
Nudging my mind
'Till I just wanna shout,

Quite frustrating,
And maddening too,
Just can't decide,
Which feelings are true,

Annoying contradictions,
Messing with my head,
Can't figure it out,
Should just go to bed.

Growing Up

Dancing to the beat of my very own drum,
Heart is beating with each lively strum,
Here I've been dancing, alone for so long,
Enjoying my steps and feeling strong,

The song takes turn and faster it goes,
Quicker the steps and rhythm grows,
It's barely dancing I'm moving so fast,
The little voice asks me how long that I'll last

The music is louder pulsing and whirling,
I pivot around, on my feet I'm now twirling,
Faster and faster, not stopping for air,
My side is aching, my heart's about to tear,

Then the music stops, a silence immense,
I'm ready to dance still, muscles all tense,
A single sweet flute plays, mellow and soft,
It's beautiful tune carrying my spirit aloft,

Echoing footsteps weave into the tune,
No longer alone under the waning moon,
A bow and a nod, a smile and glance,
I've just realized it's not only my dance.

More poetry. I felt like it. Cool, eh?

Both are accurate,
No doubt about that,
But Growing Up,
Seems kind of flat...

Both are very good poems,
I must say indeed,
With messages that all of us,
Direly need...

I found Undecided to be better than the other one,
But they're both lovely,
And I like them very much ^_^.

Now, for critiques...

For Growing Up,
Since you have at least two subjects you're talking about,
You would want to change verbs to plural.

"Quicker the steps and rhythm grows..."

This would be correct,
"Quicker the steps and rhythm grow..."

Even though it sounds kind of odd,
You're talking about both the steps and rhythm.

Also, "the little voice asks me how long that I'll last"

The word "that" is superfluous, and you could probably get rid of it and make that line sound better.

"The music is louder pulsing and whirling..."

You may want to add a comma after louder..

"The music is louder, pulsing and whirling..."

You could also use a semi-colon or elipses (pause as you know)

"My side is aching, my heart's about to tear..."

This line doesn't seem to flow quite as well as you probably want. You may want to change the sentence around a little bit. 'Tis your choice of course.

There you go wink heart

Possibilities

One day I was just walking along,
And I found a rock laying alone,
I stopped and stared at the litte stone,
Stood there for a minute long

Soon my feet were moving once more,
Head wondering what the future held in store,
For that simple, lonely grey stone,
Sitting on the cracked sidewalk all alone,

One day it might become gold I thought,
Melted into some pure precious ore,
But who would want that horror?
So my rock into metal shall not be wrought.

Then I wondered if a diamond it could hold,
Shining, brilliant, and crystal cold,
But for that it would have to be sanded and shattered,
And even for a rock, I think it would have mattered,

Now I wonder if maybe it will be a cornerstone,
Of some great monument, or maybe a simple home,
But monuments are rare, and a rock cannot make a house a home,
The rock's future I can't change, so its fate I won't bemoan,

Just a little grey rock.
Only a simple stone.
Laying on the sidwalk,
Yet it's more than I could have ever known.

Daydreamer

I can see, more than you,
I can dream of, what you can't do,
I can visit, places far,
I can do it, without a car

He can't even see what's here,
His dreaming eyes aren't so clear,
He can't see the things we can,
He doesn't deserve to be called a man,

I can fly, on ocean wings,
I can hear, when the dragon sings,
I can smell, the distant rain,
I can feel, the gryphon's mane.

He can't even do simple things,
His way will never get life's better things,
He's never in the here or now,
His big round eyes are like a cow

I can live, in times no more,
I can walk, the distant shore,
I can be, in future places,
I can know, these foriegn faces

He's just stupid and can't understand,
His dreams are built on shifting sand,
He wont ever reach far off places,
His memory can't even hold familiar faces.

I can dream,
He can't know,
I can fly,
He'll never grow,
I can live in better ways,
All he does is waste his days.

The first of these I wrote today, then after reading some of my older work, I decided to put the second on in here, it's nearly a year old. You can see certain themes kind of run through my work.

Quiet Day

Today is a quiet day...
So a word to you, if I may...
Not all is gold that gleams...
Not every smile is what it seems...
But some things you should value...
Because those things alone are true...
I can't tell you what these things are...
They're not what you'd wish for on a star...
Nor are they things that money can buy...
Because money itself is only a type of lie...
These things cannot be taken or bought...
In fact the only way to get them is a gift...
Once they are yours a heart they can lift...
So my friend, as you travel on your way...
Remember that it is a quiet day...
And remember to give what you can to others...
Because the entire human race are your brothers.

Friendship

Ever looked out on the stars, so far away?
Describe it, but there's nothing fitting to say,
Some things, words will never really show,
Important things, things you must see to know,
People name these things, trust, caring, loyalty,
All of them, we can recognize when we see,
But they're part of something much deeper,

All throughout time, we have thought,
Some things, can never be bought.
These things often include trust and loyalty,
But, they're only a part of something we cannot see,
Something that is much more then a single feeling,
What do you call it when someone helps

My new years poem biggrin

Pride

Sweet crisp air, but freezing cold,
Stare at the sky, I'm eighteen years old,
Now an adult, a difference so slight,
Sitting out here, on new year's night,
Just sitting here thinking and walking,
In the house I can hear 'em all taking,
Pacing around my snowy back yard,
With only a jacket against the cold to guard,
"A new year is on me" I quietly mumble,
Toes all frozen, soon I might stumble,
Stuck out here though until I can see,
'till I can figure out what's bugging me,
It's not my friends, that much I know,
Keep thinking while crunching over the snow,
Since I don't date I know it's not that,
And no one recently has knocked me out flat,
So my ego's intact, along with my mind,
But what's bothering me I can't seem to find,
I'm top of my class, so it's pro'bly not school
And when I hang out, I know I'm way cool,
What is the problem then, what could it be?
What on earth could be bothering me?
I stop for a moment, a thought striking hard,
It was so obvious, makes me feel like a retard,
I let out a sigh before turning back inside,
What's eating at me has been my pride.
