(( blaugh !!!))
"Ugh!"
Xander found himself in a heap against a wall, just outside of the range of the Lich spell. Rubbing his head, he whinced slightly; he had not quite taken in the situation. When he finally did realize what had happened, however, he knew that his life had taken a second major twist in just as many days.
His father was lying there in the darkness. In his feeble state, his body could hardly take the unholy energy for more than a matter of seconds before succumbing. And yet, something was different about him. For the last several years, his habit had grown so bad that he was hardly aware of his own surroundings at any given moment. Now, however, his eyes were wide open, and they were fixed on his son. His only surviving son, a son that he had neglected to hide from his own pain. The son whose life he had saved now in exchange for his own.
These eyes stayed focused on Xander for what seemed a lifetime before they finally went dull.
"No..."

Paddy inhaled a large amount of air as he watched the spheres of darkness began destroying the beautiful kites floating above. He noticed that some shattered from the force, while others just barely grazed lost its ability to catch the wind and quickly plummet down towards the earth. The giant's face seem complacent as usual as he slowly sat up, pulled his knees to his sides and his feet right before him as he sat in a butterfly position. He then began moving his right arm around as he made his fish kite swimming across the sky, dodging most of the orbs, and grazed by some. Like all others, it slowly travelled down towards the earth since its wings was lost.
The giant gave a slight sigh, and yawned softly as he watched Decira moved towards his location, her coat flowing behind her as it latches on to the grass. He then took notice of the frightened kite flyers as they run off towards the city, and away from the rain of orbs. Mothers clutching on to their children as they take them to safety, while the others stood in directed the crowd safely back into the city. His eye eventually caught sight of their leader approaching him as well carrying a bag at her side.
To show his courtesy, and respect, the giant slowly stood from his place, and towered over most of those that surrounded him. His platinum white hair flowed softly with the gentle breeze as he gave a slight bow to Lilith, and crossed his might arms across his barrel chest. Paddy could perhaps be the image of what storm giants would look like, but this feeble ogre has still to master the skies.
"Hello boss," Paddy greeted.
"What is your bidd..."
Paddy was interupted by a glowing dome of darkness that surrounded several of the kiteflyers close to the edge of the city. He heard the cry of pain from the people caught in it, and wanted to help the innocent, but his duties was to the clan. So, he stood tall as he kept glancing at those in need, and waited for an order from his leader.

(There's a possibility he might be out of range. Also, guys, none of you are going to die or come close to death because of this, only babies and the elderly/sick would die from this spell. Although it will hurt you.)
Charles Du'Galle arrived at the scene a moment too late, as darkness energy was already dispersed throughout the area. He held out a hand to the others in his squadron, motioning for them to stop outside of the range of the darkness.
He was the commander of an elite police squad, and while some kites falling down wasn't a huge deal, the police were afraid that it might have been done by a mage. Turns out their fears had come true; even worse, this was a powerful mage. "This is strong magic," he told his team of 15 men. "I want eight of you to stay outside and preserve your strength so you can attack the criminal once he runs out of energy. You four," he said, pointing to four of his men, "Search the area and take away the wounded and elderly. Protect whoever you can. And you three, split up with me and search for whoever is causing this, but don't make your presence known to him. If we attack while he's using this spell, we'll be goners." Nodding their understanding, his team split up to do their jobs.

((Heheh... this just keeps getting better and better. Not only did Xander's pop sacrifice himself for his son, but he sacrificed himself for something that wouldn't do any serious permanent damage! Bwahaha! xd ))
By the time Du'Galle had arrived on the scene, Xander was desperately trying to drag the body that had once belonged to his father clear of the lich spell. Xander wasn't a particularly strong boy to begin with, but the combination of shock and unholy magic was making his task even more difficult than it should have been.
"Dad! Hang in there!" Changing his grip and pulling back with all of his strength, he managed to hear a 'pop' as the older man's bad shoulder was dislocated. "Dad! Dad!"
Falling to his knees, he huddled over his deceased father. He could feel his chest constricting, as if something was squeezing his heart. His skin felt strangely cold, partly from the spell and partly from his own inner turmoil.
Twice now had Xander been faced with Death, and both times, Death had beaten him mercilessly.

Even though he had been at a safe distance, Lich had not remained unnoticed by Meric. From a distance, it had looked like a big, bad version of his own shadow tricks, but as he neared the area in order to investigate, it became all too clear that this spell was not meant to conceal something. It was pure destruction. 'Clan magic...' Meric could think of only one conclusion 'A clan fight? So soon?' He had been gathering information for a while, and had learned that there had not yet been any confrontations between clans. While all clans were preparing for battle, it had seemed that they were waiting for a signal, a good reason to start the actual fighting. And now, without warning, one of the clans had made it's first move. It would be of great importance to gather as much information as possible from this occasion.
Meric carefully stretched out his arm through the edge of the darkened area, and then quickly retracted it. There was no doubt this was the work of the Death clan. The field of magic responded to his presence in the same way it probably reacted to all living things. Slowly draining his energy and hurting his body. The field wasn't concentrated enough to cause any serious harm, but it wouldn't be pleasant to travel through it.
'Pleasant is for rookies.' he decided, leaping off into the darkness. He could use the lack of light to create his own pocket of darkness, moving like a shadow among shadows. The area of effect had been spherelike, so it would be logical that whatever was causing it would be at the very center of it. Navigating through the narrow alleys, he slowly made his way to the place he thought was the center. His desire to remain unnoticed, combined with the increasing influence of the Lich field, slowed him more than he liked. He simply had to find out what was going on, and who was responsible for it.

Also, unless you were abserving the spell as it was being cast, you wouldn't know where the center was, or even have any sense of direction inside of it. Only Death Magic Users are immune to Lich's power, as well as the undead. (it actually powers them up I believe) Well, enough said. Onto the post!))
DeMarkcus stared at the woman who had somehow found her way near him. She could not see him, but he could see her clearly. "Good attempt, but you can't hide from me, Lilthisia." DeMarkcus had assumed this was one of the newer recruits scoping out the area. Minmin was on her mission, and Kairu and Ryuu were also on a mission. "You learn quickly."
DeMarkcus was truely having fun. He could already sense the first Death, the one of an old man. "This is great...Death already. The feeling it gives is supreme. Don't you agree, Lilthisia?"
DeMarkcus had no time to listen for a response. Someone else has found their way into my Lich...no matter. They will die soon, as have all the others... All the children were already dead. The senior citizens too. All dead. My pleasure is soon to end though...I'm running low on energy, and the BTPD is here. Looks like I'm going to have to kill them too...
"Lilithisia," DeMarkcus motioned, "are you experienced at killing? Because the Barton Town Police Department just happens to have positioned themselves in our way, so it seems we might have to...dispose of them."
DeMarkcus had an escape route that went underground and out of Barton located at the back of the alley. But what fun would that be?

Slowly but surely, the Lich field field was draining his strength. At first it was hardly noticable, but the longer he remained within it, the more it began to hinder him, truly hurt him, even. This darkness was not simply a lack of light, like his own magic created. It was a visible, almost palpable manifestation of Death energy. Even though it didn't completely cut off all light, it made Meric feel uneasy. That, combined with the real physical pain it was beginning to cause him, made him wish he had learned the correct Life spells to counter this, in stead of his -now nearly useless- control of light. Still, he was determined to at least learn who was behind this. Moving further into the field, Meric hardly even realized that he was beginning to make mistakes. The magic was affecting him more than he had anticipated. He was slowly but surely running out of stamina and patience. As he tried to maintain a fast pace, he started to neglect his stealth. The sound of his footsteps on the ground, while still as soft as he could manage at this point, was becoming audible... (Darkfyre, as the 7-8 unholy is for level one characters, Kuja can use a lot more than that. However, with the combination of the unholys Kuja did, I'm thinking he'll only be able to do this for about a minute and a half.)
Du'Galle was feeling the continuous strain of the magic on him, feeling tiny claws of darkness crawl up his skin and scratch him. He had his hand on a longsword that rested on his waist, ready to unsheath and use it at any time. Figuring that the attacker would probably be in some alleyway, as it would have been stupid to do this in the open- although with the amount of power this mage had, maybe it didn't matter- he began checking the alleyways. He thought he saw a girl in one of them and flattened himself to the wall outside, straining to hear what was going on in the alley.

((Er, Kuja, Lilthisia is my account name, not my char name... ))
Selikia was only moderatly surprised that DeMarkcus could find her, despite her training in stealth. She was, after all, within an area he was affecting. She stepped out from the shadows.
"Killing is what I do." Her simple response was delivered in a soft but cold voice. "I assume you are the leader of the Death Clan, I'm here to join you." She made it not a request, but a statement, as if it was her choice, not his. "I'd say it would be indescreet to slaughter police squads in daylight, but you've allready made sure everyone knows exactly where you are and what you're doing haven't you? I find you quite lacking when it comes to planning so far, but I might let first impressions pass if you can show me otherwise later. Right now, I'd best be cleaning up this mess you've started, and quickly, unless you intend to fight the next clan war right here and now."
She paused, hearing footsteps approaching through the darkness. Ignoring any response DeMarkcus might be making, she swiftly scaled the nearest, shortest building, wraping herself in shadow once again. She glanced around quickly, trying to make out where people were, and who was approaching. Sighting one quickly approaching figure, she checked her weapons, planning to drop down behind him after he passed. After that, she would have to play things by ear. She didn't yet know what all her allies were, or she would have just planned to kill the approacher. The simple complexities of joining a new organization... I'll have to be sure to meet all its members soon, and I hope they aren't all Death Knights, because if this one is any indication, they have little experience with keeping a low profile and waiting for opertune moments. I'd hate to be in an oraganization where those two traits are shared by most of the members...

DeMarkcus could hear Meric's footsteps. The fool...he's walking right into Death... He could feel the suffering Meric was feeling. It joyed him. It gave him strength. But regardless of what gave him strength, his Magical Energy was running out. He had to cut the spell. Slowly but surely, the dome of darkness was disappearing, leaving bodies in its wake. Children of all ages. Young men and woman. The elderly. Their must have been atleast twenty bodies. DeMarkcus looked over to Selikia after she had gone on the wall. He heard what she had said. He was definatly pissed, but being a man of his position, DeMarkcus could not let this on to Selikia. "Watch your mouth, Selikia! Remember your position in this Clan!" She obviously hasn't been trained yet in the ways of Death...obviously hasn't seen it and felt it enough to enjoy it...her lose.DeMarkcus now clearly saw Selikia and the BTPD. He and Selikia were still hidden in shadows, unable to be seen clearly. DeMarkcus took out his staff. In the blink of an eye, his staff turned into a sword. Smooth, sharp edges, and perfect point. The perfect sword. "Ready, Selikia? Weither you are or not..." DeMarkcus charged forward. He narrowly dodged Maric, who was still walking, searching down the alley. He headed straight for the Leader of the BTPD. Take out the leader, confused them, take them out...simple enough.

Decira's eyes widened as she saw the spell spread out in front of her. She rushed up next to Paddy and Lilith, ready for anything the Clan Leader ordered her to do. Staring at the spell, she thought, 'Well, that explains the fallen kites.' As the spell began to shrink, the girl crossed her arms and leaned her weight on her left foot, observing the damage it caused. She clenched her teeth and tightened her grip on her arms as she saw the bodies of children and elderly on the beautiful field. She remembered playing on that same field when she lived with her grandparents in Barton. Now, her heart broke at the sight of the lush grass dotted with the bodies of people just trying to enjoy the sunny day.

((ooc: Apologies for taking so long and the poor quality of the post. Guess this... personality thing is harder than I thought. sweatdrop ))
The black Lich spell disapparated, leaving a void of Life in its wake. Lilith, quite frankly, was shocked. She was mean, yes, but not THIS mean. Sure, the elderly and children were annoying at best, but she wasn't going to kill them for that. Heckle them, perhaps, but she wasn't going to dirty her hands with such task as murdering easy targets.
It was then she finally remembered the large kiteflyer beside her, along with Decira and the other man, all obviously waiting for her to say something. She had meant to - before the orb came down - but had been too absorbed in her own thoughts. Pondering whether or not to help. But now that the spell was down, her mind was made up.
"Machina," she said, her voice holding no emotion as she motioned in the direction of the fallen, "go down there and see who you can... aid with your skills." Normally, she'd just leave them there to suffer, but the Sky leader was in a good mood. And perhaps some of those old people might donate to her clan. Word got around fast, and Inoue knew that theirs wasn't exactly the best of reputations.
The silver-haired lady frowned a bit, noting that her other minor healer wasn't there at the moment. Of course, she had the power as well, but.... why should she waste her power? Besides. There was a fight to be held, and she wanted to be part of it.
"The rest of you," - yes, all two of them - "are free to choose between helping out Machina or going after this Death member of ours." Logically, it had to be a member of Death - someone with a high rank too, for she knew that was no level one spell. "As this is not an official mission or anything directly related to our clan, you may choose. Choose well."
So saying that, Lilith thrust her bag of bought goods into Paddy's hands and stormed off in the direction of the streets of Barton. The Death Clan member HAD to be near there. There wasn't anywhere to hide out here, and what better place to cast a cowardly spell on old people than somewhere you can't be seen? It annoyed her to no end that someone else had the nerve to do that. It was almost like a direct insult - and there was no way she was going to let the caster get away scotch free. Of course, she could pull a few strings around Gambino....
But that wasn't as much fun, was it?

DeMarkcus stopped suddenly. Sky Presence...many of them...I didn't know they were here! This sends my whole day of enjoyment to hell...killing the innocents was fun, but you always need that extra small touch...blood on your hands. Otherwise its no fun. Being the Leader, and not wanting to further damper the new recruit's first impretion on him, he had to think quickly. Another day...
DeMarkcus turned around, and ran back the other way. He talked to Selikia. "There's been a slight change in plans. Out the back way today..." As he ran to the back of the alley, DeMarkcus again noticed Maric. "You got lucky. You get to live another day."
When he got to the back of the alley, a wave of his hand and an opening in the wall appeared. "This happens to be one of my favorite places to wreak havoc. I built a tunnel here for emergencies like this." DeMarkcus walked in. "Coming?"

((Feisty. *Bows.*))
Xander's fists were clenched as he climbed to his feet. Looking around, he was immediately overwhelmed by death's... stench? No, the bodies had not yet found time to begin to rot. It was the outstanding presence of death, death's very aura. He had to find the culprit, bring him to justice...
Nope, pointless. A cursory glance revealed the dead, the injured, and some officers... anyone else had already escaped, or else was hiding. Xander could do nothing to avenge his father.
But he could do something else. Seizing his deceased father's bag, he ruffled through it until he found what he was looking for: several pouches of herbs. A few had viable healing abilities, but for the most part they were pain-killers and hallucinagens. That would at least do something, he hoped.
Skills from his childhood, skills that he had thought were rusted and gone were coming back to him. Shakily at first, he went to those who were worst off, distributing his most potent medicines to those in most need. His pace picked up- now he was giving the less serious cases mild pain killers. Chewing a little bit himself to ignore his own wounds, Xander now found himself in a role that had long ago been his dream in life: an herbal healer, just like his father.
