Yes. That is EXACTLY how my Mother feels about things... My Family is Christan and she wouldn't even get me an effing BLINK182 cd (Yes, you heard me right) because of One of the Song names... How will she ever let me get Insane Clown Posse!?

Oi! Amazingly, the Marquis de Sade led me to Goth (long story), but I researched (another part of said long story) the culture. I was enthralled with a world as close to my inner-darkness as I, and sought it in any way, grasping what I could.

The problem today is a lack of understanding. Mainstreamers see kids in black, and go "Goths", but the 90's started a whole new system-- the "cool". Goth became in, and its origins were set aside, an arcane lore long forgotten. Then, anyone who listened to "The Cure" or such and wore some semblance of all black was "Goth", or, as I prefer, Neo-Goth. The Neo-Goths lost interest in their roots, and "classical" Goth music and such.

ANYWAY, to the point: Goth is a lifestyle, not a religious choice. It's a comment about the person, not their belief in God (though I'd suggest researchign symbols before you wear them...).

I know what you mean. Most of the kids at my school that say or think they are goth only listen to newer stuff, mostly industrial like NIN and Manson (though i dont mind them myself)...but its pretty hard to get ahold of the classics like Bauhaus, Siouxie and the Banshees, The Cramps, etc. because most of those early releases are only on record. Theres still some pretty good new stuff though like Inkubus Sukkubus, SevenThirteen, and Voltaire.

Obviously parents are too short sided. Goth's dont always worship the devil. Thank god my mom says that just becuase I'm goth dosn't mean that I would sell my self to hell. Goth's aren't respouncibal for some sort of "imbalance" on religion. Unforunatly it's not only parent's that think that, many other people that arn't part of the goth culture automatically think that they worship nothing but Satain. It pisses me off, parents should just try to understand their kids, it's not that hard if you know what to do.

Sometimes though, there are people who like to antagonize us and take religion to the next level, like priests, if they are against you, then its likely the whole church will be against you. Some of them are extremists, "if you dont worship the Holy Father then the god you worship is Satan in disguise, therefore you are a Satanist", i hear crap like this all the time about pacifistic religions like Wicca and various other "pagan" religions. I think the church is actually where most of the negativity come from in this instance because they dont usually try to stop it, sometimes they help. But for the most part the church seems neutral...I wonder what would happen if the topic of goths turned mainstream and turned political between conservatives and liberals, what would that lead to, a more widespread blue springs?

bah. gothic and satanisim are two completely different religions. gothic is a more self based state of mind and some who take it very seriously its a religion. satanism is more of a spirit/ritual based religion. and its true some satanists apear goth and are dark in the way of dress. and i think its mostly confused together because gothic culture and religion usually has alot of wiccan. i know many wiccan goths and wiccan and satanism people get confused even more. so for parents who did not grow up goth, satanist, wiccan ect. its very confusing. but that does NOT give them the reason do be nasty to their kids and controling just because THEY think its wrong or its not something THEY would do or be. theres a difference between protective and just out right weird. if their so "worried" about their kids they shoudl TALK to them about what they think it is and stuff and learn their point of veiw instead of just restricting friends, privilages, ect. I my self am Christian goth, but not mainstream christian (thank god!) and thats why everyone in my church hates me. my youth pastor after giving us a speach about how we shouldnt be self absorbed and do what other people do or dress just because they dont like. then came up to me w/ out even knowing me, and told me he wanted to start seeing me wear some color and jeans, instead of all black, because he said that black is the color of satan and its only used to portray dark side of things, and as a christian i should not be dressing liek that because its misleading. I basicaly said F u i wear black. but ever since i became goth people hated me. And thats what I hate about people! they cant apriciate self expression and admit that not everyone has to dress the same to be christian, wiccan, goth, satanistic ect. Im SO glad my mum is cool. she buys me anythink gothic i want. so long as it isnt to immodest xd

It distubes me how many ppl are so closed minded about ppls appearances. my family other than my mother is like that they think that because of what i am i woship satan and i dont belive in heaven or hell at all. im actually pagan and so is my mother. a lot of my best friends are gothic and thier parents think that its just a phase or something not willing to accept the way that they are. its an annoyance. Other ppl think that if you are gothic than you have to be a devil worshipper but a lot of my friends and ppl i know are actually catholic and baptist and belive in God. People just look at the image they cant look beyond what is in the clothing to the actual person who is wearing them.

I think for people to know so little about what a gothic person truly is and to make assumptions because of the media is idiotic and ridiculous. I personally find it insulting and believe people should be informed of the truth and have the media stop spreading lies.

Goths, ancient Teutonic people, who in the 3rd to the 6th century AD were an important power in the Roman world. The Goths were the first Germanic peoples to become Christians. According to the 6th-century Gothic historian Jordanes, the Goths came from Sweden across the Baltic Sea to the basin of the Wis³a (Vistula) River. By the 3rd century AD they had migrated as far south as the lower Danube, around the Black Sea. During that century Gothic armies and fleets ravaged Thrace, Dacia, and cities in Asia Minor and along the Aegean coast. They captured and plundered Athens in 267 to 268, and threatened Italy. For about a century, wars between the Roman emperors and Gothic rulers devastated the Balkan territory and the northeastern Mediterranean region. Other tribes joined the Goths, and under the great king Ermanaric in the 4th century, a kingdom was established that extended from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.

Goths

Edit:: My point here that I forgot to put is if the parents are so worried they need to read up on goth and know what it is before they say anything. Besides, if a parent says don't do this the child is going to do it..or is that just me. heh. Goths are not Satanist, some might be but not alot or at least not where I live. Parents in my opinion need to look back on their lives and see what they have done...I'm sure its their way of protecting us from their mistakes, but thats how we learn, by making mistakes. If we don't make any how are we suppose to learn? Parents are not going to be there forever and they need to chill...besides we have no idea what they have done in their past. Maybe you should ask them, they wont tell you the whole story..trust me. If parents just read about goth and understood it then they wouldn't see it as "evil". I know alot of goths, but they don't call themselves goth and neither do I, but one of my friends, his parent are always on his back about it and he tried telling them, but they wont listen. So, the true point is parents aren't going to listen and even if its not satatism are they going to listen, no. So in my opinion...ignore them.

I think this debate thing is freaking sweet and a good Idea.

ok I think that that makes no since cause I know alot of gothic poeple that are active in church. I am not but that is just because I have a brain and can think for myself. I beleive that most people are are born into religion rather than believing in their own beliefs. most parents send their kids to church, the church of the parents choice not their kids. for instance if a kid wants to go to church and his parents are christian he will go to christian church. his parents wont take him to jewish church to see if he has the same beliefs or not. I believe things from all sorts of religions I am not a stronge believer in any single religion. That is why I like to be gothic. people that like simalar things that don't descrimanate amongst themselvs unless there are some posers on the prowl

I dont think that being a goth leads to a lack or loss of religion. Some goths are actually very religous Catholics or Christians or whatever religion they are. The mainstream does'nt understand the culture and distorts its meanings. Like the Columbine shooting really made the culture infamous and the media convinced everyone that the kids who shot up the school were goths and that only satanists could do such a thing. The kids were just ******** up, not goths. But not enough people realize this, have any of you heard about the Blue Springs case? The city spent 200,000 something dollars to research the goth kids in the city to see if it was a religous cult or some kind of mind control. The link is at http://www.gothpunk.com .

I read the bloody article. What the hell? They wasted money looking for illegal activities of the gothic community? It is the dumbing down America as we know it.
thats bull s**t exclaim

Or like at my school if one prep hates you every prep does (which i mean isnt so bad...) just if you ask me is retarded. Just cause i dont go to church im automatically a "******** stanist" it is really annoying. In my schol there was only like 5 kids who werent prep and they were iether stoner or skater but there was like 2 other goths. So it wasnt really bad. (since im a stoner/goth/skater it wasnt really all that bad because we scared most of the preps anyways lol that was just funny as hell.

I think it's very stupid and close minded of parents to think that the gothic culture and satanism are one in the same, when they are in fact different. Some goths are satanics, but I know way more that are Wiccan, Pagan, or even Christian.

I agree with her if you are a goth that is supposedly going to make you a santan worshiping freak. Sorry to whoever that is out there that worships satan. But really we kids should be free to express our minds and that is final to all parents out there who think wearing black is bad. domokun
