“Ummm….anyways . Where do could I find him, Guild master ?” Lance asked.
“You will find him in the housing district. He lives in house thirteen.”
“The one that is supposedly cursed? Looks like I have no other choice though. Come along Kait, you have your apprenticeship.” Lance trudged towards the door but spun around quickly. “I almost forgot,” he muttered. He opened a door near the requests area that led into a long hallway. At the fifth door on the left he stopped. He gave it a push and the wooden door swung open into a small room with a bed, a chest, and a desk. The walls and ceiling were all the same shade of drab brown.
He reached into his back pocket and pulled out the gloves he had obtained from the guild. He moved over to the chest at the foot of the bed, its latch was firmly in place. Slipping on the gloves he lightly pressed the closed lock. When he retracted his hand the mechanism clicked into an open position. Gently he opened the lid of the small trunk. Inside was a small ocean-blue orb, a stone-gray tablet with ancient runes written on it, and a tome scribed in the same writing.
Lance felt something press down on his right shoulder. He turned his head to see Kait resting her chin on his shoulder. “What’re those?”
He took the orb in his gloved hand. “This is a memory glyph. It was what took the place of cameras long ago.”
“Ooh. Lemme see what’s on it.” She made a grab for it but Lance held it out of reach. He quickly stuffed it in his pocket before getting the next item, the stone tablet.
“I still don’t know what this is for. All I know is that it has the words “In the name of justice” carved onto it.” He sat that down on the bed that occupied most of the room. Finally he picked up the dusty book. Kait looked but he turned his head for he could feel the tears beginning to well in his eyes. “This was my parents. My dad left his sword techniques and mother wrote down her magic arts, but no matter how hard I try I cannot master what they have left me.” He quickly wiped his eyes before he turned back to Kait.
“C’mon. We need to find Remial.” They walked back down the hallway and out the front door. Stepping into the sunlight Lanced shielded his eyes to look at the street they were now on. He blinked, trying to get his bearings straight. If he remembered correctly the housing district was just southwest of where they were.
Suddenly, Kait spoke up, “Why are you looking for Remial.”
Lance looked ahead as he talked, “He is an information specialist, or so I’ve gathered. He might know where my missing friends are.” People on the streets didn’t give the odd pair a passing glance. In this area they had learned to keep their heads down, not knowing if they might have a bounty on them or not. “Why do you want me to train you Kait?”

“I heard you were good with time magic. Since time distorts space they are closely related. I figured if I trained under you that you could help me visit my home. Since the dimensional portal does not appear often I thought I could learn to speed up the appearance of the vortex.”
Lance though long and hard about her answer. Should he tell her that what she was asking was beyond his power. A long silence ensued before he decided to ask another question. “Why led you to choose alluring kitten as a guild tag?”
Kait walked up behind him and gently wrapped her arms around his neck. Her tail ,Lance had obviously missed it when he was tackled, snaked out from her trench coat and encircled his waist. She whispered softly in his ear, “Because I know what buttons to push.”
It took all of his energy not to blush furiously. “So you operate similar to Enticing Nocturne?”
She released him of all grips before continuing on. “Similar? Yes, I guess we could say that now couldn’t we?” She walked a bit more before speaking again. “Did you know that many of the guild ladies are after you. It is no secret you are a bachelor. Most of them actually are unaware of your bank account. However others no completely the extent of it.”
“Yes. I don’t want them though and of only they knew me more then they wouldn’t be so eager.” His eyes seemed to stare off into nothingness as he walked.
Kait sighed, “Out of all the people you could have been you have to be a stick in the mud. You should lighten up more. I know, tonight we’ll go to a club! Cant be good at teaching if you are all uptight and worrisome all the time.” Lance was about to protest but Kait began to talk again. “Here we are, the thirteenth house in the housing district.”
Lance looked around, it had been a while since he had been in this part of Sky City. It consisted of mostly single homes and apartments as far as one could see. On the eastern side the buildings had fallen into serious disrepair. The thirteenth building, however, was a well kept two story house. The outside was painted a light gray color, Lance noticed the small amount of windows. Two men stood at the door of number thirteen. Lance could tell next to nothing about them due to the dark, hooded robes they wore. One raised a black gloved hand and banged on the door.
Judging by the voice he determined it was a man. “Remial get out here. The guild will have you back. They will find and use the “item” you have.” On closer inspection Lance made out a wolf’s head etched in red on the back of their cloaks.

Lance immediately recognized that symbol. He muttered quietly to Kait, “The Beast Guild.” Kait looked at him quizzically. “They teach animalistic techniques. He must have developed something very powerful if they want.”
A voice came from behind the door. “I have a message for your guild.” The door swung open and out stepped a person who looked exactly like the description that Nocturne had given him.
“They asked that you brought back alive, you can tell them then.” “I wont go. You or your friend will have to give it to them for me.”
The two figures crouched into a pose that was similar to a leopard ready to strike. “We will bring you back as decreed by the guild master.” They allowed him to move away from the house, if Lance remembered correctly that guild made sure no material damage was done. At least that is how his experience went.
The operatives leapt forward to attack, blue auras surrounded their hands as they did. Just before their attack was about to land flames engulfed Remial and stopped their attacks. Kait looked on in horror, “Is this some kind of suicide technique?”
The flames receded, leaving a large black ash cocoon. The guild operatives quickly backed down, fear ever present on their faces. “Judging from their reactions this is what they wanted from him. Indeed it should be if it puts out that much power,” Lance whispered.
From the cocoon came a gauntleted fist with thick metal claws protruding from the backside of it. The shell crumbled to just a pile of ash. On his head was a blue helm that look like a wolf with its lower jaw removed. Over his mouth and nose was a black piece of cloth. His eyes had developed a cat-like quality, with a feral look growing in it. “Meow, I like those eyes,” Kait whispered to Lance. His chest was covered in a platemail of the same color with a crimson gem in the center. The boots he wore were leather with areas of metal and claws sprouting from the tip of the foot. Mechanical wings modeled after an eagle’s were pressed against his back since they were unused at the moment. The last piece was a mechanical tail shaped like a scorpion’s.
The guildsmen crouched back into their leopard-like stances again. “We know of your Beast Release technique. We will carry out our orders despite it…” He was cut short as the claws from Remial’s gauntlet tore through his chest and hovered on the other side of him. After the his lifeless body fell to the ground the claws retracted back to the gauntlet. A growl came deep from within Remial’s throat before he spoke, “There. Now you have something to take back to your guild.”
